| Chapter 2

══════════════════

Days went by and (Y/n) and Hawks spent the time getting to know each other better. Of course they didn't get to spend time together all the time as they both had check-ups and physical therapy. However whatever chance they get rest assured they would be up to something.

"♪I'll believe it all♪
♪there's nothing I won't understand♪"

(Y/n) was humming the same song she always did but this time it was a different verse. It always confused Hawks as to why she sang the same song over and over. Maybe she just likes that song. That does seem like a reasonable explanation. (Y/n) is mostly a mystery to Hawks, not that he minds it. "Do you know when they're gonna serve chicken in this place. I'm dying to get my hands on some chicken nuggies."

"I think they'll serve 'em tomorrow but aren't you a bird too."

"yeah. and?"

"Isn't that cannibalism?!"

"Hawks eat birds you know. We're predators! I'm a hunter." Hawks tried to flap his wings around but remembered that they've not grown back yet. Knowing his signature wings are still gone puts him in a bit of a mood. Hawks loves his wings and it made him sad knowing they're currently gone. "God I miss flying." (Y/n) look at him with pity. She hadn't known flying was such a release for him. She could fly but she'd never feel free. To her the hospital was her cage, the cage she grew up in. It's safe, it's home. However to Hawks it was like he was shot down. "Let's go fly."

Hawks stares at her like she was on drugs but then burst out laughing. "I wish but I don't have wings." (Y/n) mentally prepared for what she was going to say next not believing what she was going to say to him. "Then we can use mine." Hawks stared at her confused. "You don't have wings. Do you?"

"It's nicer at sunset. I gotta go for my check up but let's meet at the roof at sundown, okay?" (Y/n) gets up and starts to walk out of the room. Hawks jumps of his bed and grabs her hand, stopping her. At that moment Hawks looked (Y/n) in the eyes fearfully but she returned that look with a warm smile, a reassuring smile telling Hawks that it'll all be okay without uttering a word. It almost scared him that she had such control over him. She slide her hand out of his grasps, her warmth still lingering. He wanted nothing more to grab her hand once more but she was just out of his reach.

(Y/n) partially left for her check up but she also needed time to prepare. What she was about to do would be very dangerous for her but she already knew that. She wanted to do this anyway so (Y/n) headed of to the nurses office to ask a favour. "Hey Akari-san. Do you mind if I get some painkillers or maybe paracetamol? I'm starting to feel a bit sore. I just need something to soothe the pain." (Y/n) wasn't actually in pain but she knew she will be. "Oh! Well let's get you a quick check up."

"It's fine. I'm not going to die." The lady looked and me pitifully. "With your condition-"

"With my 'condition' I could die at any moment. Okay I get it. Now can I have some painkillers?" (Y/n) turns on her acting skill, pouting and looking at her sadly. One of the very few perks of being sick is that people pity you. It doesn't sound great at first but it makes people feel like letting a couple rules slip on the accord that everyday might be her last.

The nurse groans and puts a pack of paracetamol in my hand. "Be careful (Y/n). You can be reckless and your heart disease will take prey on that." (Y/n) nods at the nurse, slightly disheartened. She was fully aware she had a deadly heart disease that was only getting worse but that didn't mean she liked being reminded. With that note (Y/n) walks off to the roof. Right now she should be having dinner but being reminded that death is constantly round the corner makes her loose her appetite. She quickly took the pills to get them out of the way and then pulls out her journey to sketch and write, waiting for Hawks to fly by at sunset.

Hawks didn't get to see (Y/n) for the rest of the day and he couldn't help but feel worried about where she had gone. He went for dinner and (Y/n) wasn't there. He was seriously getting worried so Hawks ate as quickly as he could and quickly snuck up to the roof.

"♪I'll believe it all♪
♪I won't let go of your hand♪"

Hawks opens the fire exit leading to the roof and sees (Y/n) leaning on the railing, singing her song again. "You must really like that song." (Y/n) turned around and smiled happily at the pro hero. "Not really but it has meaning. I'll tell you about it another time."

"So what's all of this about using your wings?" (Y/n) didn't say anything but cheekily smiled. She held out her have to him. "Do you trust me?" Without a second of a doubt Hawks took her hand and nodded. She started to climb over the railing which put Hawks in a panic. "(Y/n). (Y/n) don't!"

"It'll be fine. Trust me." Hawks was incredibly sceptical but climbed over the railing, holding onto her tight as he didn't have his wings to catch him. "What are we going to do?" He kind of saw what was coming next but he had to ask anyway. "You said you want to fly."

"Yeah but you're not a Hawk."

"Of course I'm not," she falls backwards, still holding Hawks' hand pulling him with her, "I'm a dove." Two large white wings grow on (Y/n)'s back. They were about to hit the floor but her pure white wings started flapping. Falling soon turned to flying and (Y/n) took Hawks up above the clouds.

She soon wrapped her arms around his waist and he held his arms out, enjoying the feeling of flight he missed so much. The two spent a couple hours dancing around in the sky, (Y/n) wings practically glowing. She held him and he held her as the started to waltz above the clouds. There was no music but the moment was still perfect. The two smiled brightly to each other, their hair flowing widely in the wind. The sunset turned into a starry night and they soon headed back down to their room. "God that was so much fun, thanks (Y/n)," Hawks said happily as they walked to the hospital room, "I had no idea you had a bird quirk!"

"Yeah. It's called dove. All it really does is make wings though."

"Still, it's really cool!" He turned to her full of adrenaline and pulled her close, their faces almost crashing together. (Y/n)'s face went bright red and Hawks seductively smirks knowing she was flustered. "What? Is the little birdy a bit shy?" (Y/n) couldn't help but wonder how he went from friendly to flirty in an instant. Or maybe it was always flirty.

"You know, hawks and doves are normally on the other sides of things." She walks her fingers up his chest and the jokingly pushes him away. "I gotta go for a sec. You go ahead, I'll be back before curfew." She runs off and Hawks watches her leave, slightly confused on where she is going at this hour.

(Y/n) ran to the nearest bathroom and bent over the toilet seat. She could barely hold it back any longer and threw up into the toilet. The painkillers had little to no effect at this point. (Y/n) used so much energy that her heart could barely take it, it's a miracle she didn't die mid-air but she felt the need to do this. She couldn't bare to see him so glum from not being able to fly, she just had to do something. Besides his bright smile made it all worth it.(Y/n) spent the next few minuets throwing up.  The acidic taste of her sick running up her throat and flowing out of her mouth. This isn't good. Since she didn't even eat dinner it was probably food from days ago that was pouring out into the toilet. (Y/n) mentally noted that she would seriously need to eat soon. She knew she went way past her curfew but she guessed throwing up in a toilet will be a good excuse but that did mean she wouldn't be able to sneak in a snack.

Hawks laid in his bed wondering where the hell (Y/n) had run off to. His questions were soon answered when she creaked open the door and snuck inside the room. "Young lady where have you been?!"

"Geese sorry mum," she said sarcastically before slumping into her bed whilst trying her best to hide the immense pain she was in, "you seem cranky. What's going on?" Hawks then felt kind of bad. (Y/n) had just gave him a great time flying around this evening and he just had to be so difficult afterwards. "It's nothing. I was just worried that you missed curfew."

"Oh ok. Well I'm hitting the hay. Goodnight."

"Yeah. goodnight." (Y/n) closes her eyes and almost immediately falls asleep but Hawks has some trouble. He kept on hearing these weird sounds but he couldn't tell what it was. It sounded like he was moving really quickly but that obviously isn't true as he is laying in a hospital bed. Maybe it's that falling feeling you get when you fall asleep. After a while Hawks managed to get the noise out of his head and fall asleep.
