Your body lay alert in your bed, your eyes fixated on the ceiling above.

Each passing day melted into the other, becoming more boring with schedules and timetables by the hour; after a while, you began to loathe waking up to each passing day and prayed that the hours would swiftly roll into the night when you finally had time to yourself. Not to mention, time away from Reiner.

The snoring of your Comrades stirred you, preventing you from drifting off into sleep. At, currently twelve o'clock at night, you found your body restless.

A groan fell from your lips as you finally sat yourself up, overcome with a boredom.

You grabbed your shirt from your side, then a skirt you'd carelessly tossed to the floor. After finally slipping on your shoes, you ventured outside of your bedroom to find something to entertain you.

Your palm clasped around the crisp wallpaper; the maze-like hallways were barely lit up by the moonlight that scattered on the wooden planks below your feet.

Your fingers traced the edges of the chipped walls, your eyes slowly fluttering shut as you tried to figure out what you could do to fill the time.

Your eyes slowly ran up the corridor before easing at the sight of an open door - a room hazy with the golden light of candles. You curiously sped up your pace, your interest peaked as you almost began to jog closer.

However, you were left ever so slightly disappointed as your pupils ran onto Captain Levi sat in isolation in the Mess Hall. His thin brows were fixed together with agitation, his lips tightly pursed into a frown.

You leant the side of your figure against the doorframe, raising your hand to knock your fist against the wooden door frame.

Your Captain flinched at the sound.

Levi sighed through his nose as his grey eyes ran up your body, "Y/N, what're you doing up so late?"

"I could ask the same to you."

He gestured out his hands towards the stacks of sheets, "Your father has decided to give me a shit load of documents to sort, and he expects me to fill them all in by tomorrow morning."

You closed the double-doors that led to the Mess Hall, "Why don't you just say 'no'?"

"You might be surprised, but that's actually not how it works."

"Well, you're in luck. I haven't been able to get a wink of sleep," You offered Levi a faint smile before pulling a chair in opposition to him: "I'll keep you company!"

"A five-minute break from my work won't hurt," The Captain pushed a large pile of forms away from his chest with a subtle yawn, "Entertain me. How are you finding it being back home? Have you settled in yet?"

"Home? An Army Barracks was hardly a home."

"Still, it's where you were raised." Levi leaned back into his chair, outstretching his arms with a sigh: "In fact, this Mess Hall is where we first met. You were hardly five, so I don't expect you to remember."

Whilst tilting your head to the side, you asked the Captain: "How did we meet?"

"I was sat alone, on that table in the corner of this Hall, following my first expedition." The ebony-haired Captain began to explain, using his index finger to gesture towards a table on the far-right of the Hall: "And, suddenly, a five-year old girl came rushing in through those doors. I thought I was going insane, everyone else seemed completely unfazed by your presence."

"Was my dad not watching over me?"

"Obviously not, he had his face too buried in his paperwork to notice that you had gone to explore the barracks."

"That's unsurprising - carry on."

"You had noticed that I was the only soldier sat alone, and decided to storm-over and accompany me." Levi carried on with a stain of fatigue taking over his expression, "I told you to leave me, but you refused. You kept insisting that everyone needs a friend, and became my shadow during my duties in the Barracks. From that day onwards, you refused to leave my side."

"That sounds sweet."

"I found you highly annoying," His eyebrows twisted into a cringe, "You constantly insisted on holding my hand, and introduced me to every Soldier as 'your best friend forever'."

"I bet you enjoyed every second of it, I was your first friend who wasn't from the underground."

"I was humiliated - I was treated with little respect when I first arrived here, and you managed to make it worse. Hange still brings it up to this day."

"Well, it's not as if I was lying!" Your lips pried open into a childish laugh, "You'll always be my best friend."

"And, you'll always be my nuisance."

"Your favourite nuisance."

"I didn't mind the company, I suppose." Levi scoffed with a subtle hint of smirk, "Have the other Soldiers been treating you okay?"

"They treat me the same way as the last time I was here." You offered him a faint hue of a grin, "Although, with slightly more respect now that I am a Scout, and not a toddler."

His eyes drifted close with a half-scoff half-chuckle.

"Speaking of other Scouts," He paused for a few moments, lightly kicking his foot against your knee to shift your attention onto him, "Who is that boy that you've been spending so much time with?"

"What boy?"

"That boy you're always with," His eyes were shifted in your direction, his brow perking, "Large build, with blonde hair? You're always attached to each others side, it seems. Who is he?"

"I have no idea what you're talking about, Captain Levi."

"Don't give me that bullshit. You know that your lies may work on your father, but they'll never work on me."

"You're too insistent for your own good. His name is Reiner Braun," You gave into the intimidating Captain, "It's complicated, and I don't want to talk about him."

"If he is your boyfriend, you should make that clear to Eren Yaeger."

"What?" You asked with a cold glare and lowered voice, "What are you talking about?"

"I don't want to get involved in this teenage-bullshit," His charcoal eyes shifted up into a roll, "But, he was asking about you today - he said your name so many times that I was growing sick of you. I assumed that he must be interested in you: I just never realised that you were so popular."

"I've always been a popular person."

Levi's emotionless and exterior soon shifted to a confused stare; he glared at you as if you were speaking another language that he couldn't understand.

"Since when have you been well-liked?"

"I didn't realise you were a comedian." Your brows furrowed together, "And stay out of my business! My relationships have nothing to do with you."

Levi scoffed under his breath, tracing his hand against the back of his neck to tidy the ends of his ebony hair, "I wasn't trying to involve myself," He pressed his lips tightly together, "I don't care enough to. It's almost one o'clock in the morning - you should be in your dormitory asleep by now."

"That's ironic - especially coming from a man with insomnia."

"As much as I'm enjoying this lovely conversation, Y/N," Levi laced his fingers back around his pen, "I really must be getting back to my work; I don't want your father to kill me when he realises that I've barely finished filling in half of these forms."

You gave him a disappointed groan; arching back your neck as you felt boredom begin to run back into your brain and spread like wildfire across each of your thoughts.

"Get to bed. Now."

You dusted off your clothes with a subtle yawn, admittedly growing closer to fatigue. You outstretched your arms.

You flinched as you heard Levi's deep voice slowly rattle through your bones, "Y/N?"

"What?"

His dark eyes slowly ran down to the floor, "It's good to see you back after so long."

You smiled warmly, "Yeah, same goes to you, Levi."
