an instant regret

You clinked your drink with Sasha, your childish laughter combining together in one harmonious song. Just over an hour had passed since you had arrived at the old-fashioned pub, and you were sat on the opposed side of the table to Reiner.

Your friends were beginning to ready themselves to leave the table: half of them deciding to call it a night and return to the Barracks, whilst the other half were preparing to go for a late-night walk through the city. You, alongside Reiner, would be going for the walk.

The evening was growing late; there were less people strolling through the city by the second.

Reiner, walking ahead of you with Jean by his side, turned his head over his shoulder to meet your eyes. Only, your gaze was locked onto the canals your group walked beside. He brushed his long, slender fingers through his scruffy, blonde hair as his glare upon you eased.

Your body was lit up by the rays of silver moonlight seeping from the sky above; each inch of your skin highlighted by the pearl-coloured moon. A warm grin stained your expression as you turned your head to speak with Mikasa. You looked at peace: genuinely happy.

Reiner forced himself to look forward, looking at the concrete floor as his fingers curled into his palm.

You quickened your pace to match with his, "Where are we going, anyway?"

"No where in particular." Reiner responded, instinctively entwining his arm with yours as Jean fell behind: leaving you alone with Reiner once more.

You simultaneously flinched at the soft sound of laughter coming from behind, witnessing a joyful Christa listen to something that Eren had said. Whilst feeling your body tense with envy, you turned to Reiner for guidance; surprisingly, his face seemed unaffected - you could only assume it was due to his confidence.

The group decided to sit down beside the canal to enjoy the view: the crescent moon perfectly reflected off of the silky-smooth water. Reiner had sat further away from the other Scouts, using his index finger to gesture for you to come closer to him. You did as the blonde commanded you, comfortably perching yourself beside him.

"What do you want, Braun?"

"I overheard Eren and Christa talking earlier," His stern face multiplied the anxiety that intoxicated your system, "It sounded like Christa wants Eren to help improve her form on her ODM after-hours."

"Alone?"

"From what I could hear, it sounded like it would just be the two of them together. Eren told her that he was 'happy to help her train', since every soldier can always improve their skills." Reiners voice rose mockingly before he settled into a laugh, "It was quite typical of Eren."

You wrapped your arms around the length of your stomach, inhaling a shallow breath: "I always assumed that Mikasa was the girl that Eren would most likely fall for. To be honest, the idea of him having feelings for Christa was out of the question."

"Listen to me: I'm not saying that they like each other, I'm saying that anything is a possibility." Reiner attempted to reason, "It could have been completely innocent, for all I know."

"But, what if it wasn't?" Your tone softened into a whimper: "I'm so tired of being the second choice; I'm so tired of being in the background."

Your eyes diverted over Reiner's left shoulder, glaring into the side-profile of the boy you had been admiring for the past three years of your life. He was still talking with Christa Lenz; his piercing, emerald eyes were devoted to her as she happily spoke with him.

It made you sick; apoplectic; envious.

"We need to take our plan a step further - we need to do something big." You spoke, your eyes still locked onto Eren Yaeger.

"What are you suggesting?"

As if by fate, both Eren Yaeger and Christa Lenz's pupils simultaneously landed onto you and Reiner. Christa reflected a contagious and beautiful smile; Eren's brow perked with inquisitiveness, wondering why you were looking so intently in his direction.

"Reiner?"

"Yes?"

Your eyes finally met with his as a rush of pure adrenaline coursed through your blood, spreading electricity inside of your veins. Reiners soft lips parted with a subtle smirk: before he had chance to tease your absent mind, your words cut him off.

"Reiner. Kiss me."

"What?"

For what felt like the first time, Reiner Braun was speechless.

"I told you to kiss me." You repeated yourself with deflating shame, "You want to make Christa jealous, too, don't you?"

He knitted his blonde eyebrows together in frustration, "But, I thought you said-"

Your adrenaline outweighed your hesitation; you didn't think twice before your fingers cupped Reiner's sharp jawline. Whilst stood in between his legs (Reiner still comfortably sat-down), you leant down: placing your lips against his.

His bronze eyes shot open, shock taking over his system.

After a moment of hesitation and surprise, Reiner's caramel eyes fluttered shut: he reciprocated your kiss.

Reiner's kiss was gentle, his fingers lingered against your cheek to pull you closer against him. Your heart was beating rapidly against your ribs as your hands trickled to his muscular shoulders.

Reiner's lips tasted sweet: you savoured the taste as you kissed him, feeling the tip of his tongue trace against yours.

Reiner's left hand firmly held onto your waist, pulling your body against his. With his index finger, he traced patterns on your back: drawing in circular motions. His lips deepened into yours: your kiss intensifying.

You were pleasantly surprised by the softness: how slow his kiss was, and how carefully he handled your body. His movements were delicate, as if you were an expensive jewel that he couldn't risk breaking.

Reiner's thumb traced down against your chin, nudging down to part your lips for him to deepen into the kiss; his tongue slowly traced patterns against yours.

You never knew how badly you'd craved another persons touch until now; you never knew how good a persons lips could taste.Β

You parted your lips from eachover, instantly inhaling a breath of fresh air; still holding eachover closely.

Reiners expression was still stained with genuine surprise, struggling to register what had just occurred between you both, "Y/N."

His bronze eyes darted towards Eren and Christa, who's glares were now throwing daggers in your direction. Surprise contorted the pretty girls face as she tilted her head, as if unsure on what to make of what she had just seen: there was a hint of disappointment in her sky-blue orbs. Eren, on the contrary, had pure-wrath riddled in his eyes.

A smirk stained Reiners soft lips - the same lips you had just kissed, and you were now struggling to look away from: "Eren is pissed, and Christa looks as though she is on the verge of tears. Well played, Y/N Smith. I underestimated you."

You could still taste him in your mouth; you could still feel his hand against your waist.

"Reiner?"

Reiners head sheepishly tilted to the side, leaning closer towards you: "Yes?"

Your lips parted to speak, yet you felt your throat close-up with only regret of your actions: preventing any words from leaving your mouth.

You wished that you had not kissed him; you wished you did not know what his lips felt like. Your body become overwhelmed with a feeling of disgust: both towards Reiner, and towards yourself for enjoying the sensation of his kiss.

"Earth to Reiner and Y/N!" Ymir's voice snapped you back into reality as your posture suddenly straightened, "We're leaving - are you two ready to start walking back to the barracks?"

"Of course, let's leave." You swiftly responded whilst leaving Reiners side, not leaving him a second to interject.
