the plan

Reiner Brauns bronze eyes snapped open with surprise, "Really?"

"Surprised?"

"I'll admit it, Smith," He propped his elbow on the balconies barrier, "I expected a little more fight from you. I'm almost disappointed."

"It's probably the worst idea you've ever come up with," You bashfully folded your arms above your chest whilst lifting your chin, watching a prideful smile linger on his lips: "But I owe you, right? Consider us even when this is done with."

"You practically seem excited," The blonde stepped closer to you as you felt your body tense: his chest was just an inch away from yours as he leant down, meeting your eye-line, "Tell me the truth - do you like the thought of being my girlfriend, Y/N?"

"I like the thought of it getting Eren's attention." You frowned, pressing your palm against his chest to push him back, "Don't get it twisted. You don't mean shit to me, Braun."

"Charming as always, Y/N. But do you really think people will buy it?" His thin brows pinched, "Me. You. Us, together?"

"I don't know. How good are you at lying?"

His bronze eyes slightly widened - barely enough for you to notice, but you did notice. Reiner swallowed with a nervous shift of the eye, now avoiding your stare.

'What is this reaction? It was only a question.' You pondered to yourself as Reiner deflected, 'Curious.'

"We need to figure up a plan." The blonde deflected your question whilst still avoiding your eye-line.

"A plan?"

"A plan." He repeated himself sternly.

Reiner's figure was now propped against the railings that surrounded the balconies ledge, his elbows resting against the metal. His back was arched comfortably as he leant his head backwards with a yawn - the morning glow of Paradis chiselling his features.

"We need to figure out our story - how did we get together? And how will we break up when the time comes?" Reiner began to list, "And we should make rules, too."

"Rules?"

He nodded: "We should make a list of things we can't do - I wouldn't want to make you uncomfortable or cross any boundaries."

"That's a good idea."

"I know - I'm the one who said it." He proudly smiled, tilting his chin up, "Here's our story. We've had feelings for each other for the past few months but neither one of us have ever acted on these feelings, both due to the fact that we've never gotten along and because soon enough we would be going out separate ways after the 104th."

"I would never have feelings for you."

"Suck it up, you do now." He frowned, "After I saved your life, we got talking and realised that we didn't want to waste any more time - so we decided to make our relationship official."

"What a charming love-story." You teased Reiner Braun, "And in three months, how are we going to break up?"

"It will be amicable." He shrugged his broad shoulders, "The feelings between us had faded, just in time for me to date Christa."

You slowly inhaled a shallow breath as the tangy-orange sky transformed to a blue, signalling that the majority of Scouts would be departing on their expeditions and beginning a new day of work.

"Let's go through rules," Reiner Braun began, "Neither of us are allowed to say I love you."

"Fine." You added, "No kissing - or at least, no kissing on the lips."

"We're supposed to be dating, and I can't even kiss you?" Reiner scoffed in disbelief as an offended snarl plastered his face.

"No kissing on the mouth!" You repeated yourself sternly as his bronze eyes rolled backwards.

"Way to make it boring, Y/N. But if you insist, then I won't kiss you. What am I allowed to do?"

"Kissing me on the cheek, or hand, or forehead, is fine. But anywhere is off limits, Braun." You explained: "You're allowed to touch me, I don't mind where."

"You don't mind where?" His soft lips tilted up into a smirk, "What about your-"

"We should have some sort of phrase!" You cut him off, "If one of us goes too far, then we should have a phrase that means 'stop'."

"That's not a bad idea - but what word?"

"Something simple. Like, red."

"That's easy enough to remember." Reiner stood himself up whilst brushing his thighs with his palms, his large figure now towering over yours: "So, starting from tomorrow you'll be by my side."

"I feel sick just at the thought."

He sighed through his nose, pressing his thumb beneath your chin to lift your face. Reiner took a step closer to you, bending his knees so that he was at your level.

"Don't act like you're not excited for this," His hoarse voice purred as you felt his cold breaths on your lips with each syllable he spoke: "I can see it all over your face."

You leant closer, your lips now just a centimetre apart, "It amazes me how oblivious you can be - you really are just living in your own fantasies."

"More than you could ever know." Reiner softly chuckled as his posture straightened, burying his hands inside of his pockets: "I'll see you tomorrow morning, that's when we'll start."

"See you tomorrow morning," You slowly exhaled, feeling his shoulder brush against yours as he walked past: "Reiner Braun."
