As I stood in the school gate, I stopped. Actually there was no reason for it, but I just did it.

I didn't care if people complained or not, because today would be the end of this. Everything would end today.

Not even the best therapist could stop me from doing this today.

End everything. God, those words sounded so... Reassuring?

Because if I did anything wrong now, I wouldn't have to worry about it. Because today was the day I would finally be free.

April 3rd. Exactly five years after my mother died. Seven years after my father started abusing me and my sister. Today it would all end.

I will see my mother again.

My legs automatically started to carry me there. My steps were slow, you might think I was relaxed, almost happy.

And so was I. I didn't mind the way people looked at me. They would be the last to see me anyway.

Today was a beautiful day, almost too beautiful to do what I was planning to do. But nothing could stop me. Not even a nice spring day.

Because I had to do it today, otherwise it would all have been for nothing. April 3rd, 2019. The day of my salvation.

I giggled to myself when I realized how stupid that actually sounded. But it was true.

Today I would be freed from all the pain that has ever been inflicted on me. Oh yes, I was looking forward to it.

I felt wooden planks under my feet, my legs stopped. I had already arrived at the jetty.

Water in front of me, slowly flowing water. The Han Gang River. Or Arisu. You will be my savior.

A grin crept onto my face.

I took off my backpack and placed it next to me, just inches from the water. I also took off my worn-out shoes and put them next to the backpack.

I listened to the sounds of nature for a moment before closing my eyes, spreading my arms and taking a deep breath before falling backwards into the river.

Ice-cold water surrounded me, I wasn't exactly blown away by the gentle current.

Long before I reached the bottom, my brain switched on. It told me to reappear.

But I just let myself fall, not even responding to the signals.

I was slowly running out of air, wanting to breathe in again through my mouth out of reflex. But instead of air, I only breathed in water.

Colorful patterns danced in front of my eyes, then everything around me went black. It feels so damn good.
