Recently, fans have notice NCT Mayse's lack of appearance in NCT videos. However, the idol reassured fans when appearing on stage alongside her members during SBS Gayo Daejun.

The young idol, however, did not participate in fellow member, Mark's graduation video that was uploaded on December 31st. It was later revealed that she was busy with solo schedules and couldn't attend the event as she wished to. She did, however, leave a letter and gift to Mark that's was read during the video.

Mayse's letter read: "To baby lion mark,
you're leaving me with a bunch of crackheads. although you betrayed me in leaving, I am super proud of your achievements in DREAM. your 1-2 years of being in DREAM have been a blast and I'm sad for your departure. it'll be hard to adjust to only having 7 members this year. you're stupidity and crazy personality shall be missed, but it won't be our final goodbye. we'll be together for 127 and possibly U, depending on the concept ;)
I felt bad for not attending your graduation and decided to buy gifts, manager oppa shall hand them to you after you finish reading this letter.
I love you!~

Her gift to Mark was a scrapbook that she handmade filled with their memories. From SM Rookies/Trainee days all the way to December 31st 2018. Later that week, Mayse disappeared again, without a trace. Fans began to theories that she would be leaving NCT and transfer to JYP Entertainment in order to be with boyfriend; STRAY KIDS' Hyunjin.

However, on January 3rd, Mayse released a statement on her page on SM's official website. During her statement, she announced her leave from NCT.

Her statement read: "Hello NCTzens~
This is Mayse [of NCT] here to announce a few things. Firstly, regarding my disappearance, I sincerely apologise for not appearing in videos that fans wished to see me in. As you all know, I have been preparing my [solo] comeback and will be going to Inkigayo for my comeback stage. Secondly, I am sadly announcing my temporary leave from NCT. It is not because of any fights between myself and the members, it is because I wish to focus on my solo career for 2019. Another reason is that many people know me as NCT Mayse or as someone who's all cute and doesn't have talent. I want to make a name for myself. I want to showcase other sides of me that fans haven't seen before. I hope [NCTzens] will understand and support my decision.

After her announcement was released, fans were upset about her sudden hiatus from the group but supported her nonetheless.
