chapter three

I FOUND YOU
sunflower - post malone, swae lee

Hawks dreamt. Which was shocking to him since he had never had the time to dream before, not with all the hero patrols at night and stealth jobs from the Hero Public Safety Commission (HPSC). He could go days without sleep. So when the opportunity had bestowed upon him, he cherished every moment of it, taking in every single detail into memory.

He looked around to see he was at the beach under the starry night sky. The sand enveloping his feet was cold as the wind brushed his body and hair from his face. He breathed in the smell of the place, refreshing and smelt like the ocean, a place he had never been to much because of his busy schedule. He was wearing a white shirt and short white pants, protecting him from the cold a little.

The moon was full and shining into the reflection of the water, making it glitter like small diamonds were contained in the large body of water. Soon, sounds came to his ears. The sound of small waves crashing against the shore with rhythm that calms his heart. He stares at the scenery beyond him, even losing track of time as he looked at how the water below him receded before crashing against his feet and making him shiver at the cold temperature.

"What are you doing? You've been staring at nothing for a while and I thought I wanted to give you that cool main character moment,"

A voice spoke through the air. The voice was small and soft but Hawks felt his heart beat against his own chest. Their voice sounded angelic.

Had he heard of this voice before? Was it his assistant or one of his fans? No..he never heard of it.

Curiously, he turned his head to the source, mouth agape and eyes wide. He swore that his heart had stopped for a second and his breath had been taken away - a feeling he had never experienced. Right before him, was an angel. A woman with big white wings, wearing just a beach dress. She was slightly smaller than him.

He had never seen someone with white wings before.

She was beautiful - no, stunning - to Hawks and he has seen his fair share of good looking people. Her eyes were bluish grey, similar to the night sky that was above the two of them. They were shining as they stared at the sea in front of them like Hawks had done minutes ago. Her dark grey hair was flowing from the constant gust of wind and Hawks was sure she was sculpted by the very beings above in heavens.

"Hm? You're staring at me now?" She continued, teasing the speechless man. Though Hawks could see a small blush creeping on her glowing face.

"You're beautiful," was what Hawks could come up with. The girl had a look of surprised before giggling and covering her mouth.

"You say that so many times, Hawks, I'm starting to think that's all you know about me," she said, tilting her head and smiling at him. Now, it was Hawk's turn to have blood rush to his face.

Since when did he blush? He never blushed for anyone!

He wanted to continue this perfect dream, with this perfect girl but he felt himself waking up. The noises from the beach was slowly fading and the scenery was getting blurry too. Hurriedly, he reached out to the girl, her skin was soft on his calloused ones.

"W-wait! Who are you? Have I seen you before?" He asked but before the girl could answer, his whole vision turned black and his eyes snapped open to have the morning sun greet him. He groaned, smashing his face back into his velvet soft pillow.

Who is she?

β€” ❦ β€”

The bird man sighed the fifth time for the last few minutes. His eyes were wandering about, mouth downturned at the lack of events that were going on throughout the day. Hawks was content that he was assigned to patrol the city at this morning hour, 9am, because most of the public would be at work or school which gives him space to breathe than to constantly get mobbed by his fans.

The HPSC didn't give him any side jobs for the meantime and he had pushed all his (months of) paperwork to his agency so he was bored out of his mind. He thought of disturbing his hero friends, Endeavour or Miruko, but even they had their busy schedules and missions to accomplish.

Hawks usually flies around in the sky to enjoy the wind and peace but for some reason, he wanted to walk around today. He felt like something was pulling the strings to make him do things for the day. So, the bird man lets it be. Grudgingly dragging his foot around, hoping to catch some villains or petty theft occurring around him.

After 30 minutes of nothing, his eyes lit up to see a shop he was familiar with, 'INCLUSIVE'.

Well, it doesn't hurt to "check" up on the workers in the shop. That's considered patrolling

The blond walked in, gust of wind from the outside and air conditioner acknowledged his presence. A few workers attending at the entrance gasped and squealed when they saw the famous vermillion wings. After a few minutes of taking care of his fans (mostly signing and smiling at them, making them swoon after him), he went to walk around to shop for clothes.

His boots echoed around the minimalistic shop, fingers touching some clothes every now and then that piques his interest. Then, he came across his collaborative fashion line. His stoic face turned into a grin. He remembered he had an interview about this and helped this brand increase their revenue after announcing it. To say he was proud was an understatement. He chuckled lightly when he also remembered how he answered the interview.

"Now that we have talked about your fashion line, our most curious question is, are you single?" The young man asked, placing a recorder near Hawk's mouth.

Hawk's eyebrows twitched in annoyance before he laughed a little and nodded his head.

Why are they always asking these questions? Why not ask about what I've done as a hero? Why not something meaningful?

"I've had people ask me that many times and yes, sadly I'm still single. I'm not looking for a relationship actually, being a hero is what's important to me," he stated.

The interviewer was at awe. Then, he continued.

"Okay, what about ideal types? Anyone in particular? Maybe a certain rabbit?"

"Miruko? I would rather spend a day with Endeavour on his bad day than to be in a relationship with her! She's my best friend, nothing more," Hawks clarified, shutting down the rumour that everyone had been talking about. He liked Miruko for her honesty and determination. She was true to herself than to anyone else.

"Gosh, you're going to be alone for the rest of your life!" The interviewer joked, hoping to get some reaction to him. Hawk's mood declined.

I know. But that's what I signed up for since young. No one will love me for me, will have time for me, or give me the love that I wanted. Everyone likes Hawks but not Takami Keigo.

But Hawks agreed and laughed with him, fiddling with his own fingers.

"But, I know if I meet the one, I would spend the rest of my life with them. Haven't you heard? My species, hawks, are monogamous and mate for the rest of their life. So, I believe in soulmates, once I see them, I know they're my other half," he explained.

My PR is so gonna get pissed after this. They don't like when I talk about this but what the hell.

And he was right. He had to do weeks worth of paperwork and had to go on strict diet for a month.

β€” ❦ β€”

Hawks shook his head at the memory.

Soulmates, yeah right. I'm just giving myself false hope.

The winged hero believed that he had spent too much time in the shop and was about to leave when the entrance automatically opened to show the very same person in his dream last night. The same features, expression, height, even their impossibly snowy wings were the same. What he thought was just a dream, became a reality.

His reaction was the same as what was in his dream; starstrucked. She was right there, before his eyes. His body stood rooted the ground as his pupils followed the movement on the girl, rushing around to find something. He muffles his laughter when he saw the attractive wings of the girl hit a few clothes and racks, causing them to topple a little.

The girl rushed to save the mess but that created an even more mess behind her.

He only returned back to reality when he saw the smaller girl walk towards him. Internally, Hawks started to panic.

She's coming. She's coming. Shit! Act cool! Since when did I act like a horny teenage girl? I'm Hawks and I have a lot of fans, just act normal!

He scolded himself. In a rush, he placed one of his hands atop the rack and leaned slightly, giving anyone the view of his toned body and abs through his bodysuit. He cleared his throat and got ready to introduce himself when the girl turned a corner to walk into another aisle.

Bewildered, he quickly tried to follow her from behind to make it seem like she had bumped into him.

"Oh, hey there! Sorry, didn't see you," Hawks said, lowering his voice dragging his words a little since he knew some of his fans liked it.

But the girl simply nodded and went back to looking at the clothes in the rack in front of her. Her eyes screamed for help while her face shows obvious sign of stress, especially when she bit her lip.

Hawks's wings fluttered at his own thoughts causing him to scold it and calm himself down. Hawks coughed, earning the attention of the girl. He had never been flatly ignored by anyone - not even the girl (that he was interested in) didn't want to speak to him!

"Hey don't frown, you're gonna get wrinkles on that pretty face. Need help with anything?," he asked.

The girl's face perked up, even her wings went up a little, giving Hawks the answer he needed. There was a few seconds of silence which Hawks believe was the girl thinking about something. She turned to him and just as she was about to ask him a question, her wings started flapping causing small gust of wind around the both of them.

The girl gasped, moving her hands and arms to try and calm the wings down directly. Hawks raised an eyebrow.

What? Is she trying to push her own wings down with her bare hands?

Then, her wings spread out at its full size (which Hawks thank the shop for creating big aisles for winged people like them). The white glowing wings were like his; feathery at the top and sharp at the bottom. Hawks's bird nature within him was slightly agitated.

Her wings show that she's asserting dominance over me. But her face seems like she's scared.

The man squinted his eyes, trying to calm his unnatural anger bubbling within.

"Are you trying to dominate me, kid?" He asked seriously, contemplating his next actions. His eyes sharply looking at her. The girl widened her eyes, shaking her head at incredible speed.

"Huh? P-please no! I didn't mean it! I-I mean it didn't mean it. I don't know w-what's happening but I'm not trying to pick a fight, I swear!" She exclaimed, shaking her hands in front of her.

Although the situation was uncalled for, his heart was beating rapidly.

The same voice...

At that moment, the girl felt an even bigger gust of wind from her front. Her hair dancing wildly from the sudden burst of air. She looked up to see blazing red wings, spread out just like her wings but slightly curved at both ends. His wings and his body were far bigger and taller than hers, shadowing her smaller body from any light.

The girl shivered in fear. She understood what he was doing judging from his wings and his serious expression.

"I am stronger than you"

Slowly, her wings starts to falter to the letter 'M' once again. Her head hung, facing the ground from embarrassment and fright. The man before her was fearsome. He was radiating an aura that she had never experienced in her life. She felt that if she even looked at him or breathed near him, her life would end right there and then.

But to her surprise, the feeling was gone like it came.

There was an awkward silence before the pro hero cleared his throat, his wings faltering as well.

Well...this is awkward. What do I even do now.

"Uhm hey, don't be scared...I was just trying to help you. See! Your wings are calm now," he cheerfully said, pointing behind her. His eyes met with her bluish-grey ones, heart still rapidly beating. She came into realisation on his words before looking back.

"Y-yeah. Thank you so much," she said, bowing down to him but he stopped her halfway. He nervously chuckled.

"Aha, I don't do bows so you don't need to do that. So, uhm, you here to buy clothes?" He pointed to the rack beside him. The girl gave him a look.

"No, I came here to see Obama. I mean- sorry. Yes, I'm...here to buy clothes, for uh...wings? I've never been here before so I'm sorry. I'm in rush right now," she replied before going back to search for something suitable.

"Sweetheart, this is the men's section. The women's are there. I don't think men's clothes will fit you, unless you want mine?" he says, pointing to the opposite end. The girl's face turned beet red. She's cleared her throat and nodded before turning and walking to the supposed women's section.

Cute.

Hawks followed the young lady naturally, both their wings sweeping the clean floor a little. It seemed that the girl didn't mind having Hawks trailing behind her or she was too lost in her own thoughts for it.

For him though, he stared at her back. Smirked when he saw the made up holes from her shirt, just like what he did in the past. He admired her long hair, shining and flowing from her back in contrast to her forelimb.

Who are you? Why did you appear in my dream?

The pair stopped adjacent to the women's shirt section. Hawks could see that she was contemplating what to buy. She reached out to a long sleeve black shirt before he stopped her with his voice.

"I wouldn't choose that if I were you, the material is polyester meant for cold weather. It's your first time right? I'd suggest you take this one and this," he says, picking out a plain cotton blue and black shirt, around her size.

"What kind of shop mix in cold weather clothes with normal ones, should've made a separate section," she mumbled but Hawks could hear her perfectly with his enhanced hearing. He internally chuckled.

"Thank you, uhm, what about jackets?" she said, louder than before. Her eyes bore into his. Hawks smiled slightly, happy that she was reciprocating his attempts of getting to know her.

Ugh.. I'm like a worker here helping her than knowing who she is. They should pay me, I'm basically giving them one more customer.

"They're here, free size and unisex. What're you into? Denim or leather?" He asked, hands now on the rack to browse through the different materials. The girl raised one of her eyebrows.

"I guess anything? Uhm, which one is the cheaper one?" She asked, biting her lip. Hawks stopped before looking at her.

Oh shit, she's not working? Means she's younger than me? I've been hitting on a minor? I'm going to jail.

"Oh you're on a budget? How old are you?" He asked.

Real smooth.

"Yes and why do you need to know that? My age isn't the matter here," she remarked, brows furrowing.

"Then I'm not helping you," he grinned, turning away and walking excruciatingly slow. He could hear her groaned and cursed quietly.

"18. I'm 18 years old," she firmly stated. Eyes burning through his back. Hawks smirked.

18, 4 years younger.

"18? Aren't you suppose to be at school then, kid?" He turned back around, grabbing some leather jackets that he thinks suit her. The pro hero saw her eye twitched at the sound of her given nickname but winced when he had exposed her.

"This is an emergency.." she muttered, looking away. He hummed, not knowing what to reply. There was a few seconds of silence once again but the clothes on her hands were piling up as the winged man kept giving her clothes. She was oblivious to this action though, deep in thoughts. He got tired of the quiet environment and decided to strike up more conversation.

"What's your name?"

"..Natsume Aiko," She hesitantly replied. He was helping her so she has to entertain him as a return.

"Aiko like the meaning 'my love'? Wow seems like you were meant to be my Aiko," he snickered. She rolled her eyes.

"Heard that a lot times already, you're not special,"

"Aw man and I thought I could get a head start," he whined. Finally finished with picking some clothes for the younger one.

"I barely know you," she stated, emphasising on the second word.

"What?! I'm the number 3 hero out of Japan, I've been on billboards and magazine covers. What do you mean, you've barely know me?" He was disappointed. He thought he had gained some recognition the past year, especially being the #1 bachelor in Forbess.

"Huh? Uhm well sure your hero persona is well known but I don't know you you. Like who you are outside the hero mask," she replied and shrugged.

"Hero persona? Come on, I'm Hawks baby. The real deal, no persona here," he countered, bringing both his arms wide opened with a cocky smile.

That's right. My whole childhood, I've always been Hawks. I am a hero, one that is too fast. Everyone loves Hawks, not the scrawny scared little kid crying for help. If it meant everyone is happy and safe, I'll gladly throw my real self away to keep this persona.

She grimaced.

"You disgust me"

I had a hard time writing and revising this chapter because I'll be honest, I don't really know how to portray Hawks as close as the manga.Β  Like he's playful but at the same time serious? And observant yet oblivious? IDKKK

I hope it's still okay tho and the chapters aren't too long. I'll try to update twice a week but work from morning till night is just tiring ;-;
