chapter four

* this chapter contains the word kamisama = God.

KAMISAMA, DO YOU HATE ME THAT MUCH?
genius - LSD

Why..did I say that?

The dark haired girl eyed the floor. Her mouth spread into a thin line as she bit her cheeks. She didn't mean to snap at him like that. Her whole life, she was surrounded by genuine people - all full of love with no hidden or malicious intents - but the moment she met Hawks, one of the strongest Pro Hero in the country, she felt that something was off.

Her unfiltered mouth had spoke the words before she could even process it. The moment his words rang through her ears, her gut feeling and instinct was telling her that he was lying; hiding something that she had to run her mouth instantly. She internally scolded herself. Not only had her day (and life) been ruined by the wings, she had talked back and probably insulted one of the best heroes in Japan!

"I-I'm sorry...I've had a bad day and I-"

"It's fine. Not everyone would like me anyways, it's bound to happen," the man laughed and waved it off, though both of them knew it was fake.

"No! I like you! You're a good person and you're right, you're the #3 hero. I shouldn't have said that," she defended, wanting to put her hands out like before but the clothes prevented her. Her wings spread a little.

"Oya? You like me? Already?" He smirked, his eyes glinting in mischief.

Aiko's face warmed up, blood rushing to her cheeks as she felt herself getting embarrassed.

"N-no not like that, what the heck! I-I meant as a person, like a human being! Like I said I barely know you," she says, turning around to walk to the cashier. Her wings beat a little, following the fast heart beat of the girl which Hawks noticed. She knew that if she stayed, she would turn redder than any tomato existed.

The Pro Hero followed her, laughing at her embarrassment. Of course he was joking but he loved to see her reactions, especially her wings. Once they reached the counter and placed the clothes for scanning, a static voice interrupted their actions as their eyes trailed up to the source on the wall.

There hung a television depicting a current breaking news.

"Breaking news! There has been a reported villain attack on UA grounds in one of their facilities with students from current class 1-A held as hostage to a high number of villains. This is the first time the school that some heroes study in has been attacked. It is unknown for how the intrusion of the attack had happened but it seems that there were multiple injured students and heroes during the attack. Major injuries sustained from this attack was a Pro Hero and a student before they were sent to the hospital in critical condition. Sources tells us that our beloved hero, All Might had luckily came on time and stopped the attack from-"

Aiko's pupils shook in fear. She could feel her heart rate pick up and her fingers dropping in temperature.

Villain attack...UA..1-A...isn't that?

"S-SENSEI!" She shouted before picking up her feet towards the entrance.

However, she was held by a strong grip from behind.

"Oi! Calm down, kid. Where are you running off to? It's dangerous to go back to your school. The news reporter even said that the villains escaped. Who knows if they're still in the school," Hawks stated, holding his ground but his eyebrows furrowed. He was still listening to the reporter informing the city of the details.

Aiko had managed to get out of his iron tight grip before replying, "I'm going to the hospital. I need to see my teacher,"

Hawks sighed. The workers behind the counter were watching between the tense moment from the two winged people and the news report.

"If you're going, you shouldn't fly. I see a storm coming and I don't want you to be recklessly flying in the thunderstorm when you're feeling like this," he advised, placing his hands on his nape. He was definitely speaking from experience.

"I can't even fly," she muttered to herself before running outside to the direction of the nearest hospital from the UA.

Hawks opened his mouth in surprise as he heard her words.

"She can't fly with her wings?" He whispered. His brain was running a thousand miles per hour with everything that had happened today. Not only did he met his (probable) soulmate because he believed that dream was a sign, but the villain attack was too sudden as well; plus she can't fly? Maybe she's sick or had a muscle ache like he always does.

"Sir, that will be $536.70,"

"Ah right, she forgot to take her clothes...and I didn't get her number. I'll pay with my card then," he answered.

Aiko had the same thinking as she ran through a slight drizzle, sharp turning at each corner and running through narrow alleyways to faster reach her destination.

Why? Why was there an attack? How did they come in? Why now? How did they know? Kamisama, DO YOU REALLY HATE ME THAT MUCH? Am I a joke to you? It's as if my birthday wish happened on Opposite Day!

Just as she rambled on in her thoughts, there was a loud thunder and the slight drizzle became a heavy rain causing her to groan loudly and glare at the grey skies above. She could feel her body getting heavier and rain pelting down on her wings, adding more weight than there is to it.

Aiko arrived at the doors of the hospital drenched in rain. Her clothes and hair were dripping, her skin was covered in rain droplets together with her floppy wings which was now being dragged against the cement flooring with water trailing from them. The teenager could feel a cold coming as she held back a sneeze.

She clenched her fist before marching in to the air conditioned room.

Instant regret. I should've taken a cab or the bus.

She quickly paced to the counter and asked for her teacher's room but she received a reply stating that only family members were allowed. She insisted once.

Then twice.

But the receptionist barely glanced at her direction. Slowly getting agitated, she leaned towards the receptionist, her hair dripping water onto the dry counter.

"Listen here, lady. I am one of the closest people that caterpillar eyebag has. If you don't let me in, I will and with no regrets, bust every door open in this very hospital until I find him myself. So you tell me what room he is in before I blow up this place and you with it,"

Aiko's glare rivalled a villain. She's has had enough of the day. She believed that today must be a joke. First, was the wings. Second, was insulting the country's #3 hero. Now, it was her (truly) father figure that is in critical condition. The receptionist nodded her head in fear, informing her the room number in an instant. Aiko thanked her before storming to the respective room with water trailing through the corridor.

When Aiko reached the room, she was greeted with a doctor who was almost finished setting up some machines by her teacher's bed. He faced her before walking up to her to talk about his condition. They both stood by the end of the bed as they stared at the concerned man who was unconscious.

"Hello, I am Dr Kenny. And you are..?"

"Natsume Aiko. I am a family friend of his. He has no contact with his remaining family members."

The doctor eyed her suspiciously before giving in after looking at the determination in her eyes.

"Well Ms Natsume. Fret not, Mr Aizawa has only suffered arms and facial fractures. He is currently in stable condition but I believe that he will recover quickly once Recovery Girl arrives after she finishes her rounds. The only worry I would have is his facial fractures. He has taken a hit on his orbital floor, which is located around his eye. Though it is unlikely that his eye was directly affected, it may cause a damage that may affect his in the long run." The doctor explained, looking at his clipboard once in a while to explain what he had analysed.

"I'm sorry but what kind of damage are we talking about? Sens- I mean Mr Aizawa needs his eyes for his quirk to work," Aiko asked, picking at her fingernails in nervousness.

"I would say that he would have a hard time keeping his eyes open. He is lucky that the damage had missed his eye a few centimetres away but that does not mean that he is perfectly fine. He will need to be careful and sensitive around his eye injuries and let it recover by itself," answered the doctor. He nodded before rushing off to another patient.

Sensei, what exactly happened? It must've been scary for you. Well..at least you're alive, thank you, kamisama.

Aiko sat by his bed for an hour, thinking deeply about the day's event. Her wings were slightly damp now since it decided to shake off the water out of the blue, causing her to be more wet and the floor to have small puddles everywhere

"Stupid wings, how can you move on your own? Now you made a mess," She whispered to herself. Her wings moved slightly while Aiko rubbed her nose bridge.

Great, I'm going crazy now. I can't believe I'm talking to a body part of mine.

"Shut up...turn off the lights, it's too bright,"

Aiko's eyes shot up, she sat up and held the warm hands of her teacher laying on the hospital bed.

"Sensei! How are you feeling? Are you okay? What happened?"

As she shot her questions, she held him down as he tried to get up. He was completely mummified and if it weren't for the situation, Aiko would be laughing and torturing him with this state since he couldn't fight back.

"Ugh..god, don't raise your voice. I'm going back to sleep, my body hurts," he groaned but Aiko stopped him.

"Wait before you sleep, are you okay? Do you feel pain anywhere? What exactly happened?"

"I'm okay, Aiko. I was bringing my class to the USJ for their rescue class but these bunch of villains ambushed us with some kind of dark portal. The alarms didn't ring so I had to fight them off until reinforcements came,"

Aiko bit her lip as she thought deeply. She couldn't see what expression her teacher had with all the bandages covering his face but it seemed that it was grim one to match his tone of voice.

This had to be planned before. They probably tampered with the alarm before ambushing the class. But why 1-A? And how do they know they would be at the USJ instead of the classroom?

"They were looking for All Might, wanted to kill him." it was as if Aizawa had read her thoughts. Aiko just nodded. As much as she wanted to continue thinking about it, she was just a student; nothing more.

"Okay. You just rest, the doctor says you need it a lot. Recovery girl is doing her rounds so she'll come to you soon. Doctor says you'll have a hard time keeping your eye open for a long time but I'm sure you can work on that." she reassured,Β  preparing to go home since she was too tired.

"Yeah yeah I'm older than you, don't nag at me for these kinds of stuff. It's annoying,"

Aiko chuckled and nodded, heading to the door before she was halted by Aizawa's voice.

"Also, meet me and principal Nezu in his office in two days time. We need to talk about your wings," he sternly said.

Crap! I totally forgot about the wings, I was too caught up because he was awake.

The dark haired girl slowly nodded as her heart beats anxiously.

"You don't have to tell me anything yet but try to stay hidden until then. Don't let anyone see that. I'll talk to that principal to let you stay at home until I'm discharged. Then I'll pick you up with the school's car."

The girl pressed her fingers against her palms. Her eyes locked onto the room's door as she was too scared to look at her teacher's eyes.

What? Why must I stay hidden? What's wrong with these wings? What's going to happen?

"O-okay, thank you...I'm still not used to it anyways...it's good that I hide for awhile," she hesitantly agreed. She had no other choice - she was couldn't ask her teacher to use his quirk on her after the horrible villain attack to see if it was a result of another person's quirk and she was dead tired from today's events; it was even worse than her hardcore trainings with Mirio.

"It must be serious if you tell me to hide, right? That means that it's either dangerous for me or for the public if they know I bear these wings. Something to do with the public's perception of white wings? I assume that you would be telling me more about these wings when we meet," Aiko theorized out loud. Aizawa only gave a grunt.

"You're observant as always. Just listen to me and you'll be fine,"

"Another thing. I know I said to stay hidden but could you help me check some stuff from under my desk in the 1-A classroom. It's quite important that I don't want it to fall under the villain's hands if they could get into the UA like today. You should be safe in the UA main grounds but after that, rush back home. Have that polar bear or Hizashi to send you home,"

"Yes sir. Get well soon okay or All Might will replace you in my list of favourite teachers ," she turned back to her teacher, smiling a little at his concern over her safety.

"Really? I don't care about that..but what number am I in?"

"Third. Ectoplasm is first followed by Midnight,"

"After all I've done for you...I even had to suffer you going through puberty,"

"Well if you weren't banging my mo-"

"Shut up. We're not doing it so don't think that far ahead, Aiko," he said sternly. Aiko snickered before pointing out.

"Yet,"

Aiko thanked god that her teacher was bandaged up or else she would have been smacked by the head a handful of times for making that joke. The girl could feel her teacher roll his eyes.

"Does your family know about your wings?" Her mischievous demeanour vanished while she slowly picked at her fingernails. She realised that she did it whenever she was nervous.

"No..they went out the house when I found out about it. I woke up and my wings were just there...I don't know what's going on and everything's such a mess. I feel so lost..even when I ignore it and try to act normally...the whole day my gut feeling was punching me like it was trying to find ways to get rid of these wings," Aiko confessed.

"Just wait until our meeting with Principal Nezu..although it may not be much but maybe it will help you a little. Good night, Aiko. Don't do anything stupid."

The girl sighed before tiredly waving him goodbye to prevent any other chores from being spewed out his mouth. She went out the room in fatigue.

I just want to sleep on my bed now...it's too cold..especially my back.

Realisation struck her causing her to facepalm as she walk back to the exit of the hospital.

Damn it! My new clothes was left at the shop..and I can't go back to it with what sensei had told me. I hope it's nothing life threatening...it's Aizawa anyways, he never jokes around. I guess I'll just have to see what they do want to talk about...

Despite the heavy downpour, Aiko managed to hail a cab and head straight to her school, hoping to hide from most people. The only difficult thing about her journey was the tight space she was not accustomed to. Her wings had taken up the whole backseat and Aiko was forced to sit only an inch of it so she wouldn't have to sit on her wings.

I swear to kamisama these wings are going to be the death of me.
