Chapter Eighty-Six

Sawyer laid in bed with her eyes closed before she heard low whispers and felt someone walk past her bed, making her open her eyes. Once she opened her eyes, she caught a glimpse of a lady with curly blonde hair walking into her bathroom. Sawyer slowly got up before walking into her bathroom only to find it empty making her furrowed glance around confused.

When she went to walk out she glanced at the mirror only to find that inside the mirror was that same lady. She stared at Sawyer for a moment before turning around and walking away as the mirror went back to normal.

Sawyer stared at the mirror for a moment before she started to hear the sound of children's laughter and the whispering got louder. Subconsciously, she slowly reached out to the mirror and her hand went right through until her whole body was sucked into the mirror.

Now, she no longer stood in her bathroom but instead stood in a neighborhood. She glanced around to see that curly blonde haired lady walking, making her quickly follow her. "Hello? Hey!" She called out but the lady never turned around, "Wait!" She yelled before running after her but then the lady disappeared into the crowd making Sawyer sigh and stop.

"Sawyer!" She heard someone call out, making her turn around to see Lydia running over to her making Sawyer sigh in relief. "For once I'm not the only one seeing freaky shit." Sawyer said and Lydia nodded as she grabbed her girlfriend's arm.

They glanced around and noticed a bunch of people standing around talking to each other as Duran Duran played on a radio. People were cooking, eating and laughing with each other while kids ran around playing. The couple walked around until they noticed an old carousel and that's when Sawyer noticed one of the black horses was covered in blood.

Everything suddenly turned dark as the carousel slowed to a stop. Sawyer and Lydia looked at each other before glancing around confused and turning around only to see someone running out of a house before disappearing in a puff of green smoke. Everyone started screaming and running and disappearing left and right as Lydia had a tight grip on Sawyer's arm.

Soon enough everyone but that curly blonde haired lady were gone. Sawyer looked over and saw the lady put her head in her hands for a moment before shaking her head, making Sawyer nudge Lydia slightly, nodding at the lady. "It's not real! Not real! It's not real! It's not..." The lady cried as they walked up to her.

Sawyer slowly reached out and grabbed the woman's shoulder making her look over at the couple. Suddenly the woman's face flashed to an older version of her and back a few times. Sawyer and Lydia stared in shock until all of the sudden Lydia started screaming.

"You guys saw a carousel?" Malia asked as she, Sawyer, Anakin and Lydia sat in front of a laptop in the library. "And a big sign that said Canaan." Lydia said and Sawyer nodded slightly, "And people disappearing in clouds of glowing green smoke." Sawyer said, making Malia furrow her brows.

"Do you guys ever have nice dreams?" She asked and Sawyer pursed her lips and shook her head, "Never. We need to go to Canaan." She said as she put her arm on the back of Lydia's chair while Lydia sighed and Malia looked at the laptop. "It would be helpful if we knew anything about the place. I keep calling the number for City Hall, and no one answers." Lydia said and Malia shook her head slightly as she read something.

"The only map I can find on it is thirty years old. So far, the only thing I know about Canaan is where it is." Malia said as she unfolded a map and pointed at a spot she circled and Sawyer sighed and looked at Malia with raised eyebrows.

"That's all we need to know."

"We're here." Lydia said as she and Malia turned around making Sawyer look up from her phone and then at Scott who was asleep on her shoulder and Anakin who was laying across her and Scott. Sawyer flicked Scott's forehead, making him jump up slightly. "Where are we?" Scott asked as he glanced around, "According to the GPS, this is it." Malia said.

They all got out of the car and glanced around. Not a single person in sight, cars rusted over, buildings covered in mold and dust while their walls were cracked, windows broken, plants either dead or overgrown. "This is it. Canaan's a ghost town." Lydia said as they glanced around.

A little while later they were walking down a familiar neighborhood. And just like downtown, everything was cracked, rusted, broken, overgrown, dead and dirty. "I don't hear a single heartbeat." Scott said and Malia nodded, "I'm not catching any scents." She said.

"I wonder why Stiles would send us here?" Scott said and then all of the sudden one of the lamp posts that were still standing flickered making them stop. "Anyone smart would take that as a sign to not continue." Sawyer muttered as they started walking again.

Soon enough they walked up to the big Canaan sign that Sawyer and Lydia saw. Except now it was torn and so dirty that you could barely read it. "This is the place we saw in the mirror." Sawyer said and they started looking at some of the stuff that was still on a table.

A metal creaking sound made them look over to see that carousel. They glanced at each other before walking over to it. It was rusted and covered in leaves and vines, but yet the lights were still on and the black horse still looked like it was covered in blood. Scott went to step into the carousel before it suddenly came to life and spinning and playing music.

A few minutes later they had split up to look around. Sawyer and Anakin walked into a house, Sawyer glancing around with an uncomfortable feeling while Anakin just sniffed around. Sawyer was about to walk down the hall, but stopped when the whispers she always hears got louder. She stopped and closed her eyes for a moment as she tried to focus on what the whispers were saying.

"Malia..."

Sawyer's eyes widened slightly as she glanced down at Anakin before they quickly ran out the house. They ran out onto the street and Sawyer glanced around until she saw Malia laying on the ground breathing heavily across the street. "Malia." Sawyer said as they ran over to her, she gently grabbed Malia's arms and shook her slightly, while Anakin licked her face, making her jump up a bit. She breathed heavily as she glanced around before looking at Sawyer.

"My mom and my sister. They- they were here. And Theo-" Malia said and Sawyer nodded, "It's okay, it was just a hallucination, it wasn't real." Sawyer said and Malia nodded slightly as she calmed down. "Come on, let's find Scott and Lydia." Sawyer said once Malia was calm and she nodded.

"Yeah, but it felt real..." Scott said as Sawyer, Anakin, Malia walked up to him and Lydia, "The energy here, it's causing hallucinations." Sawyer said, making them look over at her and Lydia sighed. "We can't stay here." She said and Sawyer nodded in agreement.

"We can't leave- not until we figure out why Stiles sent us here." Scott said as they started walking back out towards the street. "Who are we going to ask? There's no one here." Lydia said and then Malia pointed at something, "We can ask him." She said making everyone follow her line of sight.

At the other side of the street stood a little boy staring at a house. "Hey!" Scott called out, making the kid spin around to look at them before taking off down the street. "What do we do?" Lydia asked and Sawyer shrugged, "Go after him." She said and then they started running after the kid.

They followed him until he went into a house, making them stop for a moment and look at each other before walking into the house. "Hello? Anyone here?" Sawyer called out, tightly holding onto Anakin's leash as they slowly walked in. She glanced around until she saw a lady staring at them from the other room making her jump slightly before nudging Scott and Lydia's arms.

"Visitors? I can't believe we have visitors! Oh, Caleb will be so happy to see you. It's been such a long time since he's had anyone to play with. And you have a dog! That's amazing." The lady said as she walked into the room with a happy smile. "Oh, you must be thirsty! Come on in and have a seat while I get you something to drink." She said before walking away.

"Seriously? What is with her?" Malia whispered as they slowly followed and Sawyer took a deep breath. "She's the woman we saw in the mirror." She said as she glanced over at Lydia who had grabbed her hand while nodding.

They all sat down at a table in the dining room and a few minutes later Lenore walked out of the kitchen carrying a tray with drinks on it. "This was my mother's lemonade recipe... At least, as much as I can remember. We always served this when we had friends to visit. I'd give your dog a treat, but I don't have any." Lenore said and Sawyer smiled awkwardly at her, "It's fine."

The teens all grabbed a glass but cringed slightly when they noticed stuff floating in the lemonade. Malia on the other hand either didn't notice or didn't care as she just chugged it all down.

"We didn't come to visit. We're looking for someone." Malia said once she was finished drinking, "A friend of ours. Maybe you've seen him? His name is Stiles." Scott said and Lenore shook her head. "It's been a while since anyone came through Canaan." She said, making Sawyer raise her eyebrows, "How long?" She asked and Lenore didn't answer right away.

"Since April 8th, 1987?" Malia asked and she set a piece of paper on the table and Lenore looked at her coldly, "Why would you disturb those things? They don't belong to you." She said, making Sawyer squint at her slightly. "We need to know what happened." Sawyer said and Lenore looked over at her.

"There was a picnic, a community party." She said and Sawyer glanced around as she felt the atmosphere in the room shift, Anakin seemed to sense it too as he stood up and got closer to Sawyer. "It seems like everyone left in a hurry." Malia said and Lenore shrugged slightly, "People have been leaving Canaan for a long time. That's the day the last of them left."

"All at once? They all just disappeared?" Scott asked and Lenore looked at him angrily, "I didn't say they disappeared- I said they left." She said and then the table shook making Sawyer sit up a bit while Lydia grabbed her arm. "Did they leave in a cloud of green smoke?" Malia asked slowly, making Lenore slam her hands out on the table and stand up.

"THEY JUST LEFT!" She screamed, making Malia and Scott look dizzy while Sawyer and Lydia looked at Lenore with wide eyes. "We didn't mean to upset you." Lydia said and Sawyer nodded, "We'll go now." Sawyer said and they all got up and started walking to the door.

As soon as they got up to the door it slammed shut making them slowly turn to Lenore, "No one is leaving. No one is leaving Canaan ever again." Lenore said. Scott quickly tried to open the door but it wouldn't budge. "Scott, open the door! You're a Werewolf." Malia said and Scott looked at her wide eyed, "I'm trying!" He said as he continued to pull on the door.

Malia walked over to the window and tried to punch it a few times but the glass didn't break. "What the hell is wrong with this place?" Malia whispered as she walked back over to everyone while they looked at Lenore. Lydia sighed softly and stepped forward, "Lenore? Could you unlock the door, please?" She asked calmly.

"Now that you're here, you need to stay. Caleb likes you." Lenore said and Lydia nodded slowly as Sawyer moved to stand next to her, "And we like him! But we need to help our town. People are disappearing- Uh, leaving. I mean leaving. You could really help us." Lydia said and Sawyer nodded.

"No one can help you. If they want to leave, they're going to leave. They'll go, and they'll go, and there won't be anything you can do about it." Lenore said before walking past them and over to the table to start collecting the glasses. "Come with me." Caleb said after suddenly appearing in a doorway making them look over at him before he walked out the room.

Scott and Malia looked over at Sawyer and Lydia who nodded, "Go." Lydia said and they nodded before following Caleb.

"Why didn't you leave, too?" Lydia asked as they turned back to Lenore, "What is that supposed to mean? Is that an accusation? Are you accusing me of something?" Lenore asked and Sawyer quickly shook her head. "We're not accusing you of anything. We just want to know how come you're the only one left? Did you hide? Did you fight them?" She asked and Lenore looked at her crazy.

"Fight who? Who are you talking about?" Lenore asked and Sawyer took a step forward, "They're called the Ghost Riders. They took everyone from Canaan. Why did they leave you?" She asked and Lenore shook her head. "I don't know! They took everyone... but they didn't... take... ME!" Lenore screamed, making Sawyer and Lydia fly back. Sawyer looked at Lenore in shock as she and Lydia quickly sat up while Anakin ran over to them, "You're a Banshee." Lydia said as Sawyer grabbed her arm.

"It's not my fault they didn't take me!" Lenore said as Sawyer helped Lydia stand up. "I know why they didn't-" Lydia said but Lenore cut her off. "You think I helped them because they brought back my dead son?" Lenore said, making Sawyer freeze slightly, "What did you just say?" She asked.

Lenore didn't and just went to scream again making Lydia scream back while Sawyer cringed and covered Anakin's ears. All of the sudden both Sawyer and Lydia were pulled into a vision like this morning. They were back in the neighborhood when people started disappearing.

But this time instead of just seeing people disappear in a puff of green smoke they saw the Ghost Riders shooting them. Every single one of them until there was only Lenore left. Once everyone was gone all the ghost riders circled Lenore as she put her hand in her hands before they disappeared.

Sawyer and Lydia ran up to her and Sawyer grabbed Lenore's shoulder making her look at them. Then all of the sudden Lenore and Lydia both let out a high pitched scream then they were back in the living room, Anakin trying to alert Sawyer.

"You didn't know what was happening, did you? You only saw them at the very end." Sawyer asked as she petted Anakin, making him stop while Lenore nodded slightly. "They were all around me, but they didn't take me..." She said and Lydia sighed, "It's because you're a Banshee... Like me." Lydia said and she and Sawyer looked at each other as Lenore walked past them and wiped off a mirror.

"How long has it been?" She asked and Sawyer sighed, "Almost thirty years." She said and Lenore looked over at them. "You won't be taken. You'll be safe." She said looking over at Lydia who shook her head, "I don't want to be safe. We want to save her brother." Lydia said, glancing back at Sawyer before looking at Lenore again.

"Don't let me be the only one left behind. I don't have a Caleb." Lydia said and Lenore stared at her for a moment before waving her hand and the door opened.

"Go."

A few minutes later they all walked outside before stopping at looking back at Lenore and Caleb. "You know, you can still come with us." Lydia said and Lenore smiled softly and shook her head, "I couldn't leave Caleb." She said and Sawyer sighed. "Lenore, you know he's not real." Sawyer said and Lenore looked down at him then back at them and shook her head, "I couldn't leave Caleb."

The teens all looked at each other before starting to walk away but Lenore called out to them, "Lydia." She said, making them turn back to her. "If it does come down to it, you don't have a Caleb." She said then looked over at Sawyer, "But you do have a Sawyer." She said, making Sawyer and Lydia look over at each other. "They don't like creatures like Sawyer, her mind threatens them." She said.

"You guys think Stiles sent us here to warn us? Maybe Beacon Hills is gonna be the next ghost town." Scott asked as they started driving back to Beacon Hills. "If we don't stop it, yes. We need to get them to leave. Now." Malia said and Sawyer sighed and shook her head as she looked out the window while mindlessly petting Anakin.

"We can't. Not yet." She said, making Scott look over at her, "Why can't we get rid of them?" He asked. "Because we saw what happens to the people they've taken when they leave." Lydia said, glancing back at her girlfriend.

"Do they all die?" Malia asked and Sawyer shook her head, "No... It's something worse than death. I felt it in Lenore's memory. It's like their soul's hollowed out. They became something else. I think they became Ghost Riders. And then... they were just gone." She said.

Not long later they pulled up to Scott house. Scott walked inside only to freeze when he walked into the kitchen. "Somehow, I don't think we're gonna hug this out..." Theo said as he turned to look at him.

Outside, Lydia, Sawyer, Anakin and Malia were walking up to the house when Malia and Sawyer looked at Lydia. "Are you okay?" Sawyer asked and Lydia nodded, "I'm fine." She said but they just gave her a look making her sigh. "Okay, I was thinking about Lenore. There's myths about the Wild Hunt and the Morrigan. They left Lenore behind." Lydia said and Malia raised her eyebrows.

"I thought Lenore was a Banshee?" She asked and Lydia nodded slightly, "The Morrigan was a Banshee." She said and realization crossed over Sawyer's features, "So, when the Wild Hunt moves on from Beacon Hills..." She trailed off and Lydia nodded.

"I'll be like Lenore and The Wild Hunt don't like Sawyer because it's harder to erase so many memories from someone with a mind like yours." Lydia said and Sawyer nodded slightly, "Which means they'll either leave me alone like Lydia or actually kill me, and if they kill me then Lydia would be the only one left here. Left behind. Alone." Sawyer said, making Lydia and Malia glance at each other.

"I hope you realize it's taking all of my strength to not tear you in half right now." Scott said, staring at Theo and that's when Malia, Sawyer and Anakin walked in. They instantly noticed Theo and Malia let out a low growl, "Hey, Sawyer... Hey, Malia... You aren't still upset about the whole shooting thing, are you?" Theo asked and Malia's eyes flashed blue as she let out a roar.
