Chapter Sixty-Seven
🎭 Strange Frequencies 🎭

"I know what happened to Donovan. I know everything." Theo said and the twins stared at him for a moment before Sawyer suddenly shot out and pushed him against one of the metal cages, "You don't know anything." She said.

Theo grabbed her jacket before turning them around so now Sawyer was against the fence, making Stiles take a step forward. "I was there. I was at the library. Malia found the book. She was texting us to see where you were. She said she left you at the library. I told her I was close. When I got there, I heard the scaffolding come down." Theo said and Sawyer squinted slightly, "You saw him?" She asked. "Just the body." Theo said and Sawyer pushed him away from her.

"I watched you guys come out. I was gonna say something, but then I saw the cop car. And the body was gone. I don't know who took him. I only saw what you saw, and I didn't say anything because neither of you did." Theo said. Sawyer glanced at her brother before looking back at Theo, but when she did, she heard a bunch of incoherent whispers.

She was about to focus on them to be able to understand them, when another noise caught her attention. "Listen." Sawyer said, making them look at her and that's when they heard sirens making them look out, "That's not an ambulance, is it?" Theo asked and the twins shook their heads before walking over to the body. "We should get out of here." Theo said, making Stiles turn to him, "We can't just leave him." Stiles said and Theo sighed and nodded.

"Fine. All right, let's take him. Someone's stealing the bodies anyway, right? Here's our chance to find out who." Theo said and Stiles and Sawyer just glanced at each other, "Guys, come on. We gotta do something." Theo said and Stiles looked at him.

"You killed him." He said in a slight whisper and Sawyer noticed Theo's eyes get glossy making her look at him weird, "In self-defense. He was going to kill you and me and Sawyer. If we stay, we're either going to have to tell the truth, or we're going to need a pretty convincing story." Theo said and the twins sighed softly as they glanced back down at the body.

"It's your choice- I'm not going to ask you guys to lie to your dad." Theo said and Sawyer shook her head, "Don't worry... we've had plenty of practice." She said.

"Do you know him?" Theo asked as they stood around the body in the animal clinic. "His name's Josh. He was a junior." Scott said and Sawyer sighed before pulling the sheep back over the body. "Which one did it? The one with the cane?" Scott asked, making them all look at each other for a moment, "Yeah." Theo said.

"What are we going to do with him? We can't just set the alarm and leave, that's how Tracy disappeared." Stiles asked and no one answered right away, "Someone's got to stay here with him." Sawyer said and Theo nodded slightly.

"I'll do it." Theo said, making them look over at him, "It's not like I had a big Saturday night planned." Theo said and then Sawyer's phone went off making her pull it out to see a text from Liam. "What is it?" Stiles asked and she looked up, "Lydia told me what she saw and heard earlier so I told Liam to test and see if Hayden is a chimera. Whatever Lydia heard was right... We got another Chimera."

"Hayden...? It's Scott. I know that you're scared, but we just... We want to help." Scott asked after knocking on his bathroom door, "I can hear her heart beating- she's really freaked out. What happened?" Scott asked, turning to Liam. "She was okay when we got here. I went to text you for two seconds and she locked herself in." Liam said.

"Why?" Stiles asked and Liam shrugged, "I don't know." He said. "She's definitely a Chimera?" Scott asked and Liam nodded, "She said she heard a voice saying 'Your condition improves'." Liam said, making them all glance at each other and sigh.

"Okay, that's unsettling..." Stiles said before stepping up to the door, "Hayden? This is Stiles. Your sister works for my dad down at the station? Look, just open the door. You can trust us." Stiles said but Hayden didn't say anything or open the door making him step back.

"We just need to tell you the truth, Hayden... And that kind of thing is usually better face-to-face." Scott said but yet again Hayden didn't do anything making them sigh before Sawyer stepped up.

"Hayden, it's Sawyer. We can explain everything to you if you come out. It's alright if you don't want to talk, or if you're not ready to believe us. But we gotta know that you're okay in there." Sawyer said before looking back at the guys. A second later the door unlocks and opens a bit, making them look over.

Sawyer slowly pushed it open to reveal Hayden standing there. But her eyes were glowing a bright yellow, her teeth had turned into canines and her hands were now sporting a set of claws.

"I believe you..."

"Where did you learn how to do that?" Sawyer asked as she sat across the table from Parrish in his apartment while he worked on one of the cell phone jammers. "It's another thing the army taught me." He said and she hummed slightly, "The army in general sounds boring, but some things you learn sound interesting." She said and he chuckled.

"I can teach you if you want." He said, making her perk up slightly, "Really?" She asked and he nodded. "Yeah, after all you fix cars, you probably wouldn't have a hard time with this." He said and she sat up, "Awesome." She mumbled before moving to sit next to him and he set one of the unfinished jammers in front of her.

Sawyer watched what he was doing for a moment before starting to do the same. It was quiet as Sawyer watched and copied everything Parrish did before she seemed like she was starting to get a hang of it. "So what's going on?" Parrish asked, making Sawyer look at him confused, "What?" She asked.

"You've been different lately." Parrish said and Sawyer raised her eyebrows slightly, "You've noticed?" She asked and he nodded. "Well I did spend a lot of the last six months with you. Learning something like this would make you excited but you're quiet. So what's going on?" Parrish asked and Sawyer was quiet for a moment before shaking her head slightly.

"Nothing... Just don't really feel like being very upbeat with everything going on..." She said and he raised his eyebrows slightly, "That was a total lie, but I won't push." He said, before getting back to work. Sawyer looked at him for a moment, seemingly like she wanted to say something before ultimately deciding not to as she just went back to work.

"What's going on?" Theo asked as Stiles and Sawyer walked into the animal clinic and Stiles walked right past him. Sawyer on the other hand eyed Theo weirdly for a moment, which he didn't notice. "Whoever's stealing the bodies probably isn't going to do it while we're standing guard over one of them." Stiles said and Theo furrowed his brows, "So you've got a better idea?" He asked and Stiles glanced around for a second.

He pulled his phone out before leaning it against something on the shelf, the camera pointing directly at the body.

"What happens now?" Theo asked as the three of them sat in the jeep and Stiles hung his watch, which showed the camera from his phone, on the rearview mirror, "We wait and I occasionally check in on what's going on at the school." Sawyer said. "You want to take shifts watching?" Theo asked and Stiles glanced back at him, "No... No, we want to spend some quality time with you." He said sarcastically and Theo nodded.

"Sounds good to me." He said making Stiles and Sawyer slowly look at each other.

"You still wondering why I haven't said anything to Scott?" Theo asked and Stiles shrugged slightly, "Maybe." He said not taking his eyes off the camera. "You think I have some kind of ulterior motive?" Theo asked and Sawyer sighed, leaning her head back on the back of Stiles' headrest, "More than likely." Sawyer answered.

"Would you believe me if I said all I want- all I've ever wanted- is for you guys to trust me?" Theo asked and Stiles shook his head, "Nope." He said, making Theo raise his eyebrows. "So, you guys are here because you're never going to trust me." He said and Sawyer nodded and glanced at him, "Yep. Glad we had this talk." She said.

"You know who you both remind me of?" He asked, making Stiles and Sawyer sigh, "Theo, nobody cares." They both said. "My sister." Theo said, making Stiles and Sawyer look at each other, "Being told we remind you of a dead person doesn't sound like much of a compliment." Sawyer said.

"She was smarter than everyone, too. And a pain in the ass like you. But she always looked out for me- the same way you guys look out for Scott. You know, I was the one that found her body. She'd fallen into a creek, broken her leg... They told us she would've been okay if it wasn't one of the coldest nights of the year... If it wasn't for the hypothermia. And when I found her, all I could think was that I should've known. That I should've been looking out for her."

"Why are you telling us this?"

"I'm telling you because even if you don't trust me, and even if you don't like me, I'm still going to be looking out for you... The way I should have been looking out for her." Theo said and Sawyer made a face and shook her head slightly, "Pass." She said as she raised her eyebrows slightly.

"You know, I saw his teeth. Donovan. He was a, uh, Wendigo, wasn't he? The cannibal one?" Theo asked and Sawyer nodded, "Native American. The myth says that if you ate human flesh, your punishment was to turn into a creature that constantly craved it." She explained.

"That's a pretty judgmental myth." Theo said and Stiles raised his eyebrows, "Well, we didn't make it up." He said. "What if it was the only way to survive? I mean, you ever heard of the Donner Party? I'm pretty sure they didn't turn into Wendigos..." Theo said, making Stiles and Sawyer glanced at him, "Well, they didn't live in Beacon Hills." Sawyer said and Theo nodded.

"Good point. So, what's the punishment for killing a Chimera?" Theo asked, "You spend five hours in the car with Theo Raeken." Stiles and Sawyer both said, making Theo chuckle. "Like, I know what my punishment is." Sawyer said as she looked down, "I'm gonna lose my best friend. I'm gonna lose Scott. Stiles might too since he was there and didn't say anything." Sawyer said as she and Stiles glanced at each other for a moment.

Sawyer sighed softly before sitting back, staring down at her hands for a moment before she took a deep breath and closed her eyes.

A little while later Lydia sat on one of the benches while Scott paced back and forth and Liam and Hayden sat against some lockers. Hayden was falling asleep on Liam's shoulder as he glanced around before noticing Scott's duffel bag.

All of the sudden Sawyer appeared out of nowhere, making Lydia and Scott look at her. "Hey, how's it going at the animal clinic?" Lydia asked and Sawyer pursed her lips slightly, "Fine, other than the fact that Theo talks too much." Sawyer said with a slight shrug. "No one's tried to steal the body yet?" Scott asked and Sawyer shook her head, "Not yet." She said.

The sound of chains rattling made Scott, Sawyer and Lydia look over to see Liam pulling out some chains from the bag. "What were you going to do with these?" Liam asked as he looked back at Scott who shook his head slightly, "Brought them just in case." He said and Liam furrowed his brows.

"In case of what?" He asked and Lydia turned to him, "In case we had a chance to catch one of them." She said, making Liam look at them in shock. "If we can't make the school a fortress, then maybe we can make it a trap." Scott explained and Liam squinted at him.

"They're coming for her- doesn't that mean she's the bait?" Liam asked and Sawyer sighed, "Liam, you guys brought her here to protect her." She said and he nodded and slammed the chains down. "And now she's bait." He said and Hayden looked at them as she stood up, "Am I?" She asked.

"No, no one's bait. But we can't be bodyguards to everyone every night." Scott asked and Liam raided his eyebrows, "Then why aren't we talking to Stiles' dad? Why aren't we doing something better than hiding in a school?" He asked and Scott shook his head slightly.

"Because we still don't know anything about them or what they want, okay? They're winning, and we don't even know what the game is." Scott asked and Liam gestured to the jammer as he walked up to Scott. "What if they come in here and those things don't work? What if you have an asthma attack again? What are we gonna do?" Liam asked and Scott sighed softly, "I don't know."

"This plan sucks!" Liam yelled and Scott raised his eyebrows, "You got a better one? Kids are dying, and she's next! So, somebody has to do something. Somebody has to save everyone. So somebody's got to be the bait!" Scott said in frustration making Sawyer sigh and pinch the bridge of her nose.

"Dude..." Sawyer said, making him realize what he said and sigh. "Scott... Promise me you'll do everything you can to save her. Scott- promise." Liam said in a slight whisper and Scott nodded, "I'll do everything I can. I promise." He said.

"Guys..." Hayden said, making them look over at her as she dug around her bag, "I think I might need a little help right now. I forgot my pills. I have a bottle in my locker. I can get them, but-" She said but Scott cut her off. "I'll get them. What's your combination?" Scott asked.

A few seconds later Scott, Lydia and Sawyer walked out to the hall, "Hurry. We'll keep watch." Lydia said and Scott nodded before walking down the hall. Lydia and Sawyer stood out in the hall for a few minutes before hearing something down the hall. "What was that?" Lydia asked as Sawyer walked ahead slightly, "Scott?" She called out but got no response.

"Stay here." Sawyer said, making Lydia's eyes widen, "What? You can't go alone. What if it's the Dread Doctors." Lydia hissed as she tried to grab her girlfriend's arm but her hand went through her, making Sawyer smile at her. "They can't hurt me like this. It'll be fine. I'm gonna just check around and report back to you." Sawyer said and Lydia sighed and nodded.

"I'd kiss you but..." Sawyer said, gesturing to herself before walking down the hall and turning the corner. "Scott?" Sawyer called out again but all she got in response was the sound of footsteps making her follow the sound until she turned another corner. She froze when she almost ran into someone before looking up at them and her eyes widened. In front of her stood Donovan, covered in blood but no pole through his chest.

"Do you feel bad?" Donovan asked and Sawyer just took a step back, staring at him in shock. "Do you feel bad for what you did to me?" Donovan asked and Sawyer shook her head slightly, "You're not real and you're not a ghost, I know that. But no, I don't feel bad at all." Sawyer said and Donovan smirked slightly.

All of the sudden a pipe ripped through her back to her stomach making her gasp and her eyes widened. All of the sudden she started seeing flashes of the jeep flipped over and on fire with her brother inside.

"If Scott really gave up on you guys for some piece of crap like Donovan, then he wouldn't be a True Alpha, would he?" Theo asked and Stiles squinted his eyes, "Or maybe that's the definition of one- someone who doesn't put up with murder." Stiles said as he glanced back at his sister whose eyes were closed as she was astral projecting.

"It sounds like you guys need to look up justifiable homicide." Theo said, making Stiles raise his eyebrows at him, "Did you seriously just say that to the son of a cop?" He asked. "A Werewolf's eyes are supposed to change color when you take an innocent life." Theo said before flashing his yellow eyes, "Do these look blue to you? It was self-defense. For me and for you guys."

"Or maybe you just don't feel all that bad about it. You can't say one life is objectively less innocent than another one. What if they turn blue 'cause you feel guilty?"

"So it's up to interpretation?"

"Yeah, maybe..."

"Okay. Then here's my interpretation of what happened with you, Sawyer and Donovan- not guilty." Theo said and Stiles looked away from him, "Did you feel bad about it?" He asked making Stiles look at him like he was stupid. "Not now- I mean right then. When you saw what happened. What were you thinking the moment you knew he was dead and there was no saving him?"

"One word... Good and I know Sawyer feels the same." Stiles said.

All of the sudden Sawyer's eyes shot open as she gasped, shooting up slightly, making Stiles and Theo look at. "What? What is it?" Stiles asked as she glanced around slightly, "Something's happening at the school and something's coming." She said in a slightly dazed tone while Theo glanced around, "Why does it smell like something's burning?"

A fist covered in fire suddenly punched Theo in the face making blood splatter onto Stiles. Then the door opened and Theo was ripped out of the car. Sawyer quickly climbed into the front seat as Stiles went to open his door when the jeep started rising. Stiles and Sawyer managed to grab onto each other's arms right before the jeep got flipped over.

Sawyer slowly woke up coughing as she inhaled some smoke before glancing around to see parts of the jeep was on fire. She groaned in pain when she moved her arm, making her glance down to see a piece of glass sticking out of her arm. She weakly reached up, groaning slightly as she pulled the piece of glass out before realizing that both she and Stiles were still partly in the jeep.

She weakly but quickly crawled out and saw Theo laying a few feet away, making her walk over to him and shake him awake. She helped him up and he glanced around before looking at her, his eyes widening as he noticed the blood on her arm, "You're hurt!" He said and she slightly shook her head. "Go get a fire extinguisher!" She said and he nodded and ran into the clinic. Sawyer ran around the other side of the jeep and pulled her brother out right as Theo ran back out.

He sprayed a extinguisher on the fire as Sawyer sat on the ground with Stiles's back slightly against her chest as he coughed awake before looking up at Sawyer and Theo.

"The body... The body's gone."
