Chapter Sixty-Five
๐ŸŽญ A Novel Approach ๐ŸŽญ

Stiles screamed in pain as Donovan wrapped his arm around Stiles's neck, holding his mouth-hand out. Sawyer quickly ran over, grabbing Donovan's arm to keep it away from Stiles' face while Stiles tried to grab a wrench from the tool box.

Sawyer quickly pulled Donovan's other arm off of Stiles, making Stiles grab the wrench. Sawyer ducked as Stiles hit Donovan across the face with the wrench before Sawyer grabbed Stiles' arm and pulled him towards the school.

"Don't look back." Sawyer said as they ran through the calls, they could hear Donovan walking through the doors behind them. They ran over to the library and tried to pull open the doors but they wouldn't budge until Stiles quickly swiped his school library card through the reader.

They were both breathing heavily as they walked into the library before they could hear doors nearby opening and closing. Stiles grabbed Sawyer's arm before pulling her behind a bookshelf as Donovan walked into the library. All of the sudden, a phone went off, making their eyes widen as Stiles felt around for his phone.

"You dropped your phone..." Donovan said as he picked up Stiles' phone, "It's Malia. Should I text her back?" Donovan asked before pocketing Stiles' phone. "You don't really know who I am, do you, Stiles? Sawyer?" Donovan asked as Sawyer pulled her phone, getting ready to text someone until Donovan spoke up again.

"Maybe you heard about my father... Did your guy's dad tell the two of you about him? Did Sheriff Stilinski ever tell you guys about the time he was still a deputy, and how his partner got caught in a shoot-out? Did he tell you a bullet shattered my dad's T-9 vertebra? Went through his spinal cord. Know what that means?" Donovan asked as he walked around slightly.

"It means everything below his waist is useless. And not just his legs. I bet he told you guys some of it. But I bet he probably left out the part where he was sitting in a car calling for backup while my dad was going in alone. Did he tell you he was too scared- too much of a frightened little bitch- to go in after him? Or do scared little bitches not tell their little bitch kids about their failures?" Donovan asked as the twins tightly gripped each other's hand.

"About how they put their partner in a wheelchair for the rest of his life?" Donovan asked before they saw him start to walk up the stairs. They waited until he was at the top before that slowly started to walk out from behind the bookshelf, leaning their backs against another.

They waited for a moment, waiting for any type of sound, until an arm suddenly came through the bookshelf, grabbing Sawyer. Donovan suddenly pulled Sawyer through the bookshelf, making Stiles run around it. "Stiles, go!" Sawyer yelled as she struggled against Donovan for a moment before punching him in the face.

Donovan fell to the ground and Stiles quickly grabbed Sawyer's arm and pulled her up before they ran past the bookshelves. Donovan let out a loud yell as Stiles started climbing the scaffolding while Sawyer ran for the stairs. Donovan got up and quickly started climbing the scaffolding as Sawyer reached the second floor of the library.

She looked over the edge when her brother yelled to see Donovan grab onto Stiles' leg. "Don't worry, Stiles. I'm not gonna kill you... I'm just gonna eat your legs!" Donovan said before growling slightly, his eyes going completely white as he showed off his razor sharp teeth.

"The pin..." Sawyer heard multiple people whisper, making her look over to see a pin that was holding up part of the scaffolding. "Pull the pin..." The voices whispered, making her quickly climb over the railing, onto the scaffolding. "Stiles!" She yelled, making her brother look up at her as he tried to kick Donovan away from him.

"Look out." She said before reaching over and pulling the pin out. Stiles pressed himself against the scaffolding while Sawyer gripped onto the bars as a floor to the scaffolding fell, sending a bunch of metal poles down. After a moment, things stopped falling and it got quiet, making the twins look at each other before Sawyer's face fell slightly and her eyes widened a bit when she noticed something below Stiles.

Stiles looked down to see Donovan on the ground, a pole straight through his chest as his coughed up blood. Stiles climbed down before walking up to Donovan, who looked at him. Stiles grabbed onto the pole and went to pull on it before Donovan let out a few deep breaths until his head lolled to the side as he stopped breathing.

A silver liquid dripped down the pole along with blood as Stiles stepped back. He looked back to see Sawyer step down onto the floor, staring at Donovan's body. Her eyes were glossy and her hands were shaking as she tried to control her breathing.

Stiles quickly walked over to her, comfortingly wrapping his arms around her, making her grab his arm. She took a deep breath but her eyes never left Donovan's body.

"Nine-one-one, what is your emergency Nine-one-one, please state your emergency. You've reached nine-one-one, this line is for emergencies only. If you do not have an emergency, please hang up." Dispatch said over the phone as Stiles and Sawyer stood by the library's phone, neither of them saying anything.

"Want me to send a car out? What's the address?" They heard a Deputy ask, "It's the school, Beacon Hills High." Dispatcher said. "Let's see if we got a car in the area..." The Deputy said before Dispatcher hung up. Stiles slowly put the phone back, his hand tightly holding onto Sawyer's as her hands were still shaking a bit. They both looked back at Donovan's body before Stiles quickly pulled Sawyer over to the doors.

He stopped for a moment as he opened the door, realizing the cops wouldn't be able to get into the library without a card. He quickly grabbed a book from a nearby cart to use to hold the door open before realizing his sister wasn't next to him anymore.

"Sawyer?" He asked, looking back to see Sawyer slowly walk up to Donovan's body. She tried her hardest to not look at Donovan's face as she carefully pulled Stiles' phone out of Donovan's pocket as Malia called him. She declined the call before looking up at Donovan's face for a moment, taking a deep breath.

"I'm not sorry..." She said in a slight whisper before quickly running over to her brother. He grabbed her hand and they quickly ran out the library, leaving Donovan's body as blood continued to drip onto the floor.

They ran out to their cars and Sawyer quickly got the jeep to work before closing the hood as Stiles ran over to the driver side. Stiles quickly climbed in while Sawyer ran over to her car and got in. They both turned on their cars but neither of them moved, what just happening fully started to sink in.

Donovan came close to nearly killing Stiles and Sawyer actually killed Donovan, which in turn, would make her brother an accomplice.

Sawyer let out a shaky breath as she ran a hand through her hair before she could hear the distant sound of sirens. The twins' eyes widened as they glanced at each other through the windows of their cars before turning the lights off. They pulled back near a dumpster in the darkest part of the parking lot.

A police car pulled into the parking lot and a Deputy got out, making the twins sink down into their seats as the Deputy glanced around the parking lot. A moment later the Deputy walked into the school, making Stiles and Sawyer sit up slightly.

They both glanced out at each other as they sat in silence until a moment later the Deputy walked out the school. The twins quickly turned on the police scanners they had in their cars. "I'm ten-ninety-seven, and there's no one here. It's a six-five-three." The Deputy said, making them furrow their brows as they glanced at each other out their windows.

"Roger that. It's a prank call. Return to your patrol."

The moment the Deputy drove off, the twins got out of their cars before running to the school. They ran into the library before stopping when they saw the Library completely clean. No body, no blood, no poles, nothing. Everything was gone as if what happened with Donovan never even happened. Like it was just their imagination.

Except it did happen, they didn't imagine it. And they were sure of it when Sawyer reached her hand out to a bar of the scaffolding, pulling her hand away to find blood on her finger.

๐ŸŽญ

Stiles walked up to his glass crime board and wrote "Donovan not dead, walked out" before stepping away from the board. He looked over at Sawyer who hasn't said a word since they left the school. Ever since they got home and cleaned themselves of any blood, she's just been sitting on his bed, mindlessly petting Anakin, who had his head on her lap.

Stiles placed slightly before walking back up to the board to write, "Donovan dead" with three lines underneath the word dead. He stepped back, rubbing his forehead in frustration until Sawyer suddenly stood up, making him look at her. Her eyes were clouded over as she took the pen from him before walking up to the board and writing "Someone took the body".

Her eyes went back to normal and she sucked in a deep breath. Her eyes were glossy as she read over everything Stiles and her wrote before quickly grabbing the eraser. She breathed heavily a bit as she quickly tried to erase what they just wrote but it wasn't coming off easily, making her groan in frustration.

She continued to aggressively wipe away at the words until Stiles walked over to her, grabbing her arm and pulling her away. She sucked in deep breath, bringing her hands up to wipe away any tears that had fallen as Stiles wrapped his arms around her.

He winced slightly, making Sawyer look at him as he rubbed the shoulder that Donovan had grabbed with his mouth hand. All of the sudden his phone started going off, making them both jump before he pulled it out to see Scott calling him.

"Scott?" Stiles asked when he answered the phone, "Is Sawyer with you?" Scott asked and Stiles glanced at his sister. "Yeah, yeah. I'll put you on speaker." Stiles said before lowering his phone and hitting the speaker button, "Scott?" Sawyer asked.

"Guys, someone's taking the bodies." Scott said, making the twins glance at each other and not say anything, "Guys? You there?" Scott asked and they took a deep breath, "Yeah, um... Where? What are you talking about?" They both asked.

"I'm at the animal clinic with Kira. Tracy's body is gone. The lock on the door was broken from the outside. And my mom just told me Lucas' body went missing from the morgue. They've been searching the whole hospital for it. Someone's stealing the bodies." Scott said and Sawyer looked over at the board where she hadn't gotten to erase the part she wrote yet.

๐ŸŽญ

"Lydia, I'm going with you." Sawyer said as she got ready and Lydia stood by her doorway, "I thought you said you and Stiles were sick." Lydia said and Sawyer shrugged slightly. "Slightly under the weather." She said and Lydia raised her eyebrows, "You guys don't have to come. Malia's not going, either." Lydia said.

"Malia's not going because she knows that place is a nightmare asylum of insanity and death, okay? Let's go." Sawyer said as she put her jacket on and winced slightly making Lydia squint at her. "What was that?" She asked, making Sawyer look at her, "What was what?" She asked.

"You winced." Lydia said and Sawyer shrugged slightly, "My back hurts. I slept wrong." She said. In reality, her back was sore from Donovan pulling her through a bookshelf and slamming her on the ground on top of a bunch of books.

Sawyer started to walk out her room, but Lydia stopped her, making her sigh softly. "Lydia, you're not gonna go without me. You remember what happened to Deaton when he talked to Valack?" Sawyer asked and Lydia shrugged slightly, "Scott and Kira are going to be there." She said.

"Okay, I'm not letting you go to a place where one of the orderlies almost killed you." Sawyer said and Lydia gave her a look, "He almost killed you and Stiles, too!" Lydia said and Sawyer nodded.

"And we're all still alive. See? Teamwork." Sawyer said before quickly kissing Lydia's cheek then walking past her, "Stiles! Let's go!"

๐ŸŽญ

"Are you guys going to be okay in there?" Scott asked as he, Stiles and Sawyer stood by the jeep while Kira and Lydia were by the front gates to Eichen House. "Yeah... Why?" Stiles asked and Scott shrugged slightly, "You both just seem a little off." Scott said and Sawyer raised her eyebrows.

"I think we're all a little off." Sawyer said and Scott sighed softly, "Maybe some of us more than others..." He said, making them look at him confused. "Wait, what happened?" Stiles asked.

"When the other Chimera, Lucas... When he came after us, I heard Kira say something in Japanese." Scott said and the twins raised their eyebrows, "That doesn't sound too bad." Stiles said. "She doesn't know any Japanese." Scott said and Sawyer shrugged slightly, "Still not terrible." She said.

"I also think I might have stopped her from killing Lucas." Scott said and Stiles nodded slightly, "Okay... Wasn't he trying to kill you, though? I mean, that just sounds like self-defense." Stiles said and Scott sighed. "It was more than that. I mean, she nearly took off his head." Scott said and Sawyer raised her eyebrows slightly.

"Maybe she had no other choice? There's gotta be a point where self-defense is justified. Tracy killed her own father, and Lucas would have killed you." She said and Scott shook his head, "They're not the bad guys' they're the victims. We shouldn't be killing the people we're supposed to save." Scott said, making the twins glance at each other for a moment.

Before anyone could say anything else the gate buzzed and opened making them look at each other before walking over. Scott opened the gate and they all walked through. They started walking up the stairs and then the gate shut making them all stop and look back. "I hate this place." Sawyer muttered before grabbing Lydia's hand protectively as they started walking again.

"Please empty your pockets into the container." The orderlie, Schrader said as he placed a plastic bucket on the counter. "We're here to see-"

"Please empty your pockets into the container." Schrader said again, making them all look at each other before sighing and taking their stuff out. "Please remove your belt and place it into the container." He said looking at Kira, making her eyes widen, "I kind of need the belt. I mean, it's crucial to the outfit."

"Please remove your belt, which patients will attempt to take from you and use to strangle either themselves or others." He said and Kira sighed, "Right. Got it." She said as she took off her belt before putting it in the bucket.

Sawyer was glancing around when Lydia grabbed her arm making Sawyer look at her to see her looking uncomfortable as she looked at Schrader. Sawyer instantly looked over at him and saw him staring creepily at Lydia making her slightly step in front of Lydia. "Mind looking away from my girlfriend before I tell the entire police station that you're a possible predator?" Sawyer asked, giving him a warning look.

Before anyone could do or say anything someone walked through another door making them turn to look at them to see Dr. Fenris. "Follow me." He said and Sawyer protectively wrapped her arm around Lydia, giving Schrader a dirty look as they walked away.

"I'll remind you that I'm only doing this as a favor to Deaton, and I'm doing it against my better judgment." Dr. Fenris said as they walked down stairs, "Hey, what's the etiquette for talking to this guy? I mean, do you ever look at the other eye?" Stiles asked.

"I wouldn't. In fact, while you're down here, try not to make eye contact with anyone or anything." Dr. Fenris said looking back at them making Sawyer raise her eyebrows, "Well now I want to." She muttered.

๐ŸŽญ

They walked into a long hallway but stopped when they noticed Scott and Kira had stopped. "You didn't think you were all going, did you?" Dr. Fenris asked making realization cross over Sawyer features. "Mountain ash." She said and he nodded.

"Everywhere, but heavily concentrated down here." He said as he swiped his card through the reader then opened the door. "Valack's cell is the last one at the end of the hall." He said and they glanced back at Scott and Kira, "We'll be right here." Scott said and they nodded before slowly walking through the door.

As they walked through the hall Lydia wrapped her arm around Sawyer's arm. While they walked, Stiles and Sawyer glanced into one of the rooms before their eyes widened when they saw Donovan. But once they passed the door and looked into the other window, all they saw was a creature they've never seen before.

The twins glanced at each other for a moment as they walked up to Valack's cell. "Tell me what you just saw." Valack said, looking at Stiles and Sawyer, "Us?" They both asked, looking at him confused. "The creature in the previous cell? The Sluagh? The myth is that they can take on the appearance of the lost souls that have become inextricably bound to it. Happen to have seen any lost souls, Mr. and Miss. Stilinski?" Valack asked.

"Everyone down here and then some." Sawyer said and Valack smiled, "Don't give up on us yet. We're all works-in-progress." He said, making Lydia hum slightly. "Where did you hear that from?" She asked, making him smile at her, "Wise words from a former cellmate." He said as he stood up and walked over to the glass.

"Did you bring the book?" Valack asked and Stiles pulled the book out from his waistband and held it up. "Very nice. First edition. Of course, there was only one printing." Valack said and Sawyer squinted at him, "There is no T.R. McCammon, is there?"

"No."

"You wrote the book." Lydia said, "That's right, Lydia. Maybe you've already guessed that it's not just a book." He said as Lydia tightened her grip on Sawyer's arm. "What is it then?" Sawyer asked, making him look over at her, "A tool... Designed to open your eyes."

"To what?" Stiles asked, and he looked at him, "To them... The Dread Doctors." Valack said. "Why did you use a pseudonym?" Lydia asked, "I had a professional reputation once- I wasn't interested in ruining it by putting my name on a second-rate piece of trash." He said making Sawyer furrow her brows in confusion. "Then why write the book in the first place?" She asked and he looked over at her.

"You haven't even read it yet, have you? I wrote it because no one believed me. Because no one listened. They're here, aren't they? In Beacon Hills?" He asked and Sawyer raised her eyebrows, "What are they?" She asked.

"Not entirely human. At least, not anymore. They were scientists once... Scientists who worshiped the supernatural. Tesla said, "If you want to find the secrets of the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency, and vibration." They found their secrets in electromagnetic forces- ways to prolong their lives, give them power, and, most importantly, making you forget you ever saw them."

"What do they want?" Lydia asked, making him look at her, "Good question, Lydia. Everybody wants something, don't they?" He asked and Sawyer rolled her eyes. "What do you want?" She asked and he held up a recorder and placed it in the hand slot.

"Hit record." He said, making them look at him warily, "What do you want me to say?" Lydia asked. "I don't want you to say anything... I want you to scream." He said and Sawyer instantly shook her head.

"No, not happening." Sawyer said as she took the recorder out of Lydia's hand making Lydia pull her and Stiles to the side, "He's the only one that knows anything." Lydia said and Sawyer looked at her crazy. "The guy is a literal A nut-joh who drilled a hole into his head." Sawyer said and her brother nodded in agreement, "Yeah, he's probably lying his ass off."

"How many have died so far?" Valack asked, making them look at him, "All of them teenagers? Am I right? Want to know how many died the first time they came here? Wonder how many more will die if they succeed?" He asked and then the lights flashed.

"This did happen before." Lydia said and he nodded, "And now they're back- all because a few teenagers who never even considered the consequences decided to reignite a supernatural force they barely understand." He said, making Sawyer sighed. "The Nemeton." She said and Stiles squinted his eyes at him, "How do you even know about that?"

"I know because I saw it!" He said then took off his bandage around his forehead to show the hold in his head that had his third eye. "You know Sawyer, you have one too." Valack said, looking at Sawyer, "If you were to do the same as I did, your abilities would be far more stronger." He asked and Sawyer chuckled. "Luckily I'm sane enough to know not to drill a hole into my head." She said before the lights started flickering more, making them glance around, "Who did you come with?"

"Our friends." Lydia said and he looked slightly alarmed, "What are they?" He asked and Sawyer shook her head. "Don't answer that." Sawyer said and Valack looked at her before realization crossed over his features.

"You brought a Kitsune." Valack said and then a light shattered making them jump, "What the hell is happening?" Sawyer asked. "She's disrupting the building's defenses." He said, making them look at him, "What do you mean? How?" Lydia asked.

"It's not just the mountain ash that keeps this building secure- it's the electromagnetic energy. Eichen is built on the convergence to telluric currents. Ley lines. It's what allows it to keep certain supernatural creatures in... and certain others out. They knew you were coming. They're here. And you unlocked the door for them." He said.

"Hit record. Do it now! It costs you nothing." Valack said and Sawyer squinted at him, "But it's worth something to you, so you're not getting it for free." Sawyer said. "What does the book do?" Lydia demanded but Valack didn't say anything, "Tell us!"

"I told you- it opens your eyes." Valack said and Sawyer rolled her eyes, "How?" She asked. "It triggers the memory centers of the brain, clearing the fog and bringing the images of the Dread Doctors into focus. I wrote the book in an effort to find out if anyone else like me had ever seen them before. I thought I could circulate it, an effort to trigger someone's- anyone else's- memory. They'd see the cover, a hint of memory... They pick up the book, read it... The suppressed memories surface, and they'd find their way to me to discover more. Just like you did." Valack explained.

"Did it work with anyone else?" Stiles asked making Valack look over at him, "You didn't see it on The New York Times' Best Seller list, did you?" He asked. "So, all we have to do is read the book?" Sawyer asked and he nodded.

"If you've seen them, if they've done something to you... Then the book will help you remember. Now, give me what I want."

"Tell us what they want!" Lydia demanded after giving Valack the recorder back after screaming, "What are they trying to do?" She asked. "Read the book! Anyone who's come into contact with them." Valack said as Sawyer and Stiles started pulling Lydia back. "Lydia, we gotta go! Now!" Sawyer said and they started running down the hall.

"Read the book!"

They ran down the hall a bit before Stiles pulled them into a room. Stiles pressed himself against the wall while Sawyer tightly held Lydia to her chest. Sawyer tightened her hold on her when they heard Valack screaming.

Eventually everything went quiet, making them start to relax slightly. "I think we're okay..." Lydia said and the twins didn't say anything or move, "Guys?" Lydia asked, looking over at them. "No, it's not okay. All of this? It's on us. Everything that's happened, everything that's going to happen- it's our fault." Stiles said and Sawyer nodded.

"It's our responsibility."
