Chapter Sixty
💰 Smoke and Mirror 💰

"You guys are not going to Mexico." Stilinski said, pointing at his kids as he shut the door to his office, "Dad, Scott and Kira have been kidnapped and taken to Mexico, okay? I think that's a pretty good reason for a trip to Mexico!" Stiles said and Stilinski sighed and shook his head as he walked around his desk. 

"Okay. Even if Deaton is right about this... the best thing to do is to go through the proper channels." Stilinski said, making Sawyer scoff slightly, "What? No, dad-" She went to argue but her father cut her off. "That means calling the right law enforcement agencies, border patrol, putting out an all-points." Stilinski said, making Stiles sigh in frustration. 

"Dad, we can't just wait around for the wheels of bureaucracy to start spinning in five different government offices, okay?" Stiles said and Sawyer nodded, "Someone needs to go down there right now, find them, and rescue them! We're going." She said, making Stilinski raise his eyebrows at them. 

"I can keep you from going." He said and the twins gave him a look, "We'd find a way." They both said. "I can throw you in a cell." Stilinski said and they shook their heads, "We'd still find a way." Stiles and Sawyer said, making Stilinski sigh. 

"Guys, please- just give me a little more time to verify something slightly more concrete than a psychic vision by some guy with a third eye. Look, I will call every law enforcement agency all the way down to South America if I have to. If nothing turns up, then I'll book three flights to Mexico. We'll all go. Okay?" Stilinski asked, making Sawyer and Stiles glance at each other and nod. 

"Okay. Okay, great. Do I get a gun?" Stiles said, making Stilinski look at him crazy, "No." He said and Sawyer pursed her lips and raised her hand slightly. "Could I get a gun? Consider I actually took classes on how to use one." Sawyer asked and Stilinski squinted at her, "Still no." He said before walking out, making her frown slightly. 

"We're not going to wait are we?" Stiles asked and Sawyer shook her head, "Nope." She said.

"Here, try that." Stiles says as he hands Malia an article of Scott's clothing from the closet. She brings it up to her nose then shakes her head, "Fabric softener." She said. He glanced around before running onto the bathroom, making Malia and Sawyer follow him to see him pull out a pair of boxers from the hamper. 

"Remember, Scott's life is on the line." Stiles said when both girls made a face and Sawyer started shaking her head. "She's not sniffing Scott's dirty underwear." She said before walking over to Scott's bed and grabbing a pillow. The moment she touched the pillow, she heard was sound like Scott screaming in the distance.

"Here, see if this works. We need to hurry." Sawyer said as she tossed the pillow over to Malia who brought it up to her nose before nodding and giving Stiles a look as he pursed his lips. 

"Yeah, that works, too." 

"Oh! Liam, go home. You're not coming with us." Sawyer said as they walked down stairs to see Liam sitting in the kitchen. "Why not?" Liam asked and Stiles sighed, "Because it's a full moon, and I don't feel like driving all the way down to Mexico just to have you rip my throat out." 

"You can lock me up, right? Chain me down to the backseat or something?" Liam said and Stiles sighed and Sawyer shook her head, "You tore through the last chains, remember?" She said and Stiles nodded in agreement. "Yeah, we would have to freeze you in carbonite to get you down there." Stiles said and Liam shrugged, "Okay, then where do we get carbonite?" Liam asked, making Sawyer and Stiles both squint at him. 

"Really? You haven't seen it, either?" Sawyer asked before Stiles turned to her, "We should really find new friends." He said and she nodded before they turned around to walk out. "Wait! What if we put me in the trunk?" Liam asked, moving to stand in between them and the door. "You'd get out of that, too." Malia said and Sawyer nodded, "Liam, you've been a Werewolf all of five minutes. You don't have to do this." She said, making Liam sigh. 

"I know I don't, but I want to. There's gotta be bigger chains, a bigger trunk, or something! There has to be." Liam said and Stiles looked down in thought, 

"Maybe there is..."

"How'd you get a prison transport van?" Stiles asked as Braeden got out of the van after pulling up next to them, "I'm a U.S. Marshal." Braeden said, making Sawyer hum slightly, "I thought that was just a cover." She mumbled as Derek and Peter pulled up. 

"Are we really bringing him?" Derek asked gesturing at Liam who came to stand next to Sawyer, "Are we really bringing him?" Stiles asked, pointing at Peter. "We're bringing everyone that we can. And, considering Scott and Kira were taken the night before a full moon, we should probably get going." Peter said, making Malia look at him confused, "What's that mean?" 

"If Kate took Scott back to the same temple that she took Derek, how do we know she's not planning to do the same thing to him?" Peter said and Liam looked confused. "What, she wants to make him younger?" He asked, "Or take him back to when he wasn't a Werewolf." Derek answered. 

"A Werewolf can't steal a True Alpha's power. But, maybe a Nagual Jaguar with the power of Tezcatlipoca behind her...? Maybe she can. So, if everyone is sufficiently freaked out, I say we get going." Peter said and Sawyer shook her head. 

"We can't- not without Lydia." She said, making them look over at her, "Where is she?" He asked. "The school." Sawyer answered, before walking over to the side to call Lydia. "What's she doing at the school, anyway?" Derek asked and Malia lifted Kira's sword, "We got Kira's sword, but we need something with a stronger scent. Lydia went to get a jacket out of her locker." 

"Nothing..." Sawyer sighed, walking back over. "If she has a car, she can catch up to us." Braeden said and Peter pointed at her, "That's a good point. We'll call her from the road." He said, making Sawyer slightly glare at him. 

"No, what if something happened? What if she's in trouble?" Sawyer said with a mix of worry and annoyance making Peter sigh in frustration, "Fine. You stay- you find her. We're going on without you." Peter said, walking over to the car making her glare at him again. 

"I could call Mason. He has a study group at the school. Maybe he could look for her?" Liam said and Stiles nodded and sighed, "All right. Fine." Stiles said and walked over Malia while everyone else went to the cars. 

A minute later Sawyer walked up to Stiles and Malia, "I'm gonna go back and find Lydia. I don't have a good feeling." Sawyer said and Stiles nodded. "You sure?" He asked and she nodded, "Yeah, we'll be back on the road as soon as I find her." She said and they nodded. 

"Remember what we're dealing with- it's not just Kate, it's Berserkers. You might see human eyes behind those skulls... Do not assume there's any humanity left." Peter said then looked over at Liam with a smirk, "Oh... This little one is terrified of them, aren't you? Don't worry, my friend. It is that fear that will keep you alive. A reminder to everyone? You do not fight Berserkers to survive- you fight to kill." 

"God, I hate that guy." Sawyer muttered before walking over to her car.

"Sawyer!" Someone called out as Sawyer walked down the hallway of the school making her turn around to see Mason walking over to her. "We haven't met yet, I'm Mason." He said as he held his hand out and she smiled and shook his hand, "Nice to meet you." She said. 

"I'm guessing you're looking for Lydia too?" He asked and she sighed and nodded, "Yeah, she's not answering her phone." She said. Mason went to look in a classroom but Sawyer grabbed his shoulder when she noticed something on the stairs. 

"Stay by me." Sawyer said before they walked over, "No wonder she's not answering..." Mason said as Sawyer picked up Lydia's phone. She turned it on to find a picture of a Berserker making her eyes widen while Mason looked confused, "What the hell?" 

All of the sudden a shadow loomed over them making them look to see a Berserker growling at them. "Shit..." Sawyer mumbled before the Berserker slammed his hand down on both of them. 

A little while later they were both shaken away to see Lydia in the basement. "Are you okay?" She asked and Sawyer nodded as she sat up while Mason groaned in pain, "My head." He said and Sawyer nodded slightly. "Yeah, it's probably gonna hurt a lot..." She said Mason sat up and looked at them wide eyed. 

"There was this guy. Huge- really huge. He had a- a skull on his face." Mason said and Lydia and Sawyer glanced at each other before Lydia sighed and nodded, "Yeah, I know. I saw it, too." She said. "My phone's gone." Mason said as he patted his pockets and Sawyer nodded, "Yeah, I think that's the point." She said and he looked at them confused. 

"Okay, well, why? What's he gonna do to us?" Mason asked and Lydia shook her head slightly, "I don't know, but it definitely doesn't want us to leave." She said making Mason furrow his brows. "Lydia... Why do you keep saying it?" Mason asked and then a low growl came from the other side of the basement, "Because it is an it." Sawyer said as they slowly stood up. 

"What is that thing?" Mason asked as Sawyer moved to look down the hall of the basement, "Not human." 

"I don't hear it." Lydia whispered as they leaned against the wall, "Come on." Lydia said and went to stand up, making Sawyer grab her girlfriend's arm to stop her. "No, no. There's only one way out on this side of the basement." Mason said and Sawyer nodded, "It's definitely still there. No way that thing left us here that easily." She said and Lydia sighed. 

"I know. But if we don't get out of here, someone's going to die." Lydia said and Mason looked at her confused, "How do you know that?" He asked and Sawyer and Lydia glanced at each other. "I just do. We have to at least see if he's blocking the exit." Lydia said and Sawyer sighed softly, "I'll check." She said. 

Sawyer slowly stepped forward to look around a shelf to see the Berserker walk around the corner making her step back and nod. "Yep, definitely still blocking it." She said and nodded slightly, "Okay. I have an idea but I need to get close to it, without it attacking me." Sawyer said, making Mason look at her crazy. 

"What are you planning on doing?" Mason asked and Sawyer sighed, "Something I didn't know I could do until someone tried to kill me." She said, making him look at her confused. Lydia sighed softly before moving over to a basket that had a couple baseball bats. 

"Really?" Sawyer asked as she cocked an eyebrow and Lydia nodded, "Very." She said. "A baseball bat? Against that guy? Or thing, or whatever it is?" Mason asked, looking at Lydia like she was crazy, "Our friends are in trouble, and so is Liam, your best friend. They need us. I'm going for it. And yes, with a baseball bat." Lydia said before walking past them. 

Mason suddenly ran past her, holding a baseball bat as he let out a battle cry. Mason slammed the baseball back onto the Berserker a couple times before it basically uppercuts him making him go flying back. Lydia ran forward, hitting the berserker with the bat a couple times before it hit her as well making her go flying to the ground. 

"I thought you said it wanted to keep us here, not hurt us!" Mason said as he looked at Lydia, "I think it changed its mind." Lydia said before they looked back to see Sawyee duck underneath the berserker's arm before she looked up at it as her eyes clouded over. 

The berserker stepped away from her, hitting its head slightly as all it could hear was countless whispers until someone spoke up. "Excuse me!" Someone said making them all look over to see Stilinski, "Catch!" He said before tossing something at the Berserker. 

The Berserker caught and Sawyer looked over to see it holding a landmine making her eyes widen. "Oh, shit!" She said before running back down the hall, grabbing Lydia and Mason and pulling them around the corner as her father ducked behind a corner before pressing a button. 

Sawyer covered Lydia's ears right before a loud explosion went off making the teens all jump. They all stood up a second later and walked around the corner to see the hallway, a mess covered in the bones of the Berserker. "You guys okay?" Stilinski asked as he walked over to them and his daughter gave him a thumbs up, "Nice one, dad." She said, making him chuckle. 

"It was after me. It wanted me to stay in Beacon Hills. I think this was all some sort of distraction." Lydia said, making them look at her and Sawyer nodded slightly, "Yeah, Kate was probably hoping I'd come looking for you." Sawyer said and Lydia nodded. 

"Because you knew they're trying to kill someone" Stilinski said and Mason looked at them confused. "Kill who?" Mason asked, before Sawyer's eyes clouded over and she saw flashes of Peter, Malia and Liam fighting a berserker that had two bands around its arm. 

"Scott..."

Stiles and Malia walked into the station making Stilinski and Sawyer look up. Stiles quickly ran into his father's office and the family pulled each other into a hug. "Dad, you smell terrible." Stiles said, making Stilinski chuckle. "Yup. You too." He said before they pulled away they looked over at Malia and smiled. 

"Come here." Stilinski said, making Malia look at them shocked before smiling as she walked up to them and they pulled her into a hug. "I'm just so glad you all are safe." Stilinski said as they pulled apart, "So what happened with Peter?" Sawyer asked and Stiles sighed. 

"He's been working with Kate to try to kill Scott. He's on his way to Eichen House now." Stiles said and she hummed slightly, "Yeah, totally saw that coming." She said. "Hey, what do you say we get outta here? Get something to eat?" Stilinski suggested, making the twins smile. 

"Great! I'm starving." Stiles and Sawyer both said before they looked at Malia who smiled and nodded, "Okay." She said. They all started to walk away but the twins were suddenly pulled back by a pair of handcuffs around their wrists and the desk. "Yo, Daddy...?" Stiles said, making Malia glance back at them with furrowed brows. 

"What's your favorite food?" Stilinski asked, ignoring his son making Malia glance at him, "Pizza." She said and he nodded before directing her out of the office. "Hey, why did I get handcuffed? I didn't even go to Mexico!" Sawyer called out, "You were going to!" Stilinski said. 

"Hey- Dad? ...Bring us back a slice?"

"Then Stiles said that Scott and Kira were stuck in Mexico, which was why they missed the game... Uh, so we went down to Mexico to drive them back from Mexico, and that's why we all missed practice... 'Cause... We were all in Mexico..." Liam explained as he, Stiles, Scott, Sawyer, and Anakin stood in front of Coach trying to explain why the boys missed practice. 

"You took Kira on a date to Mexico?" Coach asked and Scott awkwardly looked at with wide eyes. "It was our first real date..." He said, making Coach squint at him, "In Mexico?" He asked. "They wanted to do something special." Stiles said and Coach nodded, "Huh. Okay. I believe you." Coach said, making them all look at him shocked, "Really?" Sawyer asked. 

"Absolutely not! But I've had experiences south of the border that would knock the genitals off you boys." Coach said in a slight whisper making Sawyer look at him weird. "Still, let me be clear to you two... This kid's the best talent I've seen in years- so he's your responsibility now. You three are gonna stick together. You're gonna look out for each other. And you're gonna have each other's backs. You got it?" Coach asked and Scott smiled at Liam. 

"We got it."

"This used to be on a hard drive... But, we eventually decided it might be a good idea to have a hard copy around so we put it in a book." Lydia said as she walked up to a desk in the station. She dropped a book onto the desk and Parrish picked it up and looked at it. "What is it?" He asked as he glanced at Sawyer who sat in a chair next to him with her feet up on the desk and Anakin sitting next to her. 

"It's called the Bestiary. Whatever you are, it might be in here." She said before glancing at Lydia as she wrapped her arms around Sawyer's shoulders, "We'd like to help you figure it out." Sawyer said.

Gonna have to take a bit of a break from posting cause I've been having to do a bunch of stuff around the house (we've been trying to do some small renovations) so I haven't had the time to really sit down and write (when I do get the time, I'm not in any mood to write).

So I'm pretty far behind and also theres been a few times where I've been so busy I forget to post (like how I almost forgot today) so I'm gonna just take a bit of a break.
