Chapter Fifty-Three
💰 I.E.D 💰

Sawyer watched as Lydia sat in front of the record player, occasionally moving the needle around as she listened. Sawyer sighed before standing up and walking over to Lydia. "Wait, Sawyer" Lydia said as Sawyer moved the needle off the vinyl, "Nope." Sawyer said before crouching down in front of Lydia.

"You have been here listening to this thing all weekend, Lydia. If you don't stop, or at least take a break, you will drive yourself crazy." Sawyer said as she gently brushed off a fallen eyelash from Lydia's cheek, "I need to figure it out." Lydia said in a slight whisper and Sawyer raised her eyebrows slightly. "Yeah, well, I'd rather not have to see the girl, I'm trying to call my girlfriend, get put in Eichen House. You need a break, Lydia." Sawyer said and Lydia sighed softly while looking back at the record player.

"Come on." Sawyer said as she grabbed Lydia's hand and started to stand up, "Sawyer-" She started to say but Sawyer cut her off. "I need to go talk to my dad here soon, so until then, I'm gonna take you home and I'm gonna stay until I know you're asleep. Because sleep is what you need right now." Sawyer said before helping Lydia up.

"Hey." Sawyer said, making Lydia look up at her, "You'll figure it out, but it doesn't have to be right now." Sawyer said. Lydia sighed softly before leaning her head on Sawyer's shoulder, making Sawyer wrap her arms around Lydia.

💰

"So, the Walcotts were the first... at least, the first we know about. Four murders- Sean, his brother, and their parents." Stiles said and Sawyer nodded, "They were killed by a professional assassin called the Mute; weapon of choice, a military tomahawk." She explained as they stood around Stilinski's desk at the station looking at pictures from the murders.

"But then, the Mute was killed by Peter Hale after he tried to blow up Derek with a claymore mine." Stiles said and Sawyer pointed at him slightly, "Next was Demarco. He delivered a keg to the party at Lydia's lake house... and got decapitated outside his car." She said and Stiles nodded.

"And then, last night, twenty-three-year-old Carrie Hudson." He finished, "It's a Deadpool- a hit-list of supernatural creatures. This is only part of it... The rest still has to be decoded" Scott said, pulling out a piece of paper.

"Who found this list?" Stilinski asked, "Lydia." Sawyer said, making Stilinski sigh, "How?" He asked and she pursed her lips a bit. "She wrote it....Actually, she transcribed it... without realizing it..." Sawyer said and he raised his eyebrows at her, "Banshee?" He asked and she hummed and nodded.

"Banshee."

"Beautiful. All right, what are these numbers next to the names?" Stilinski asked, "We're getting to that. First, you need to know that the code was broken with a cipher key." Stiles explained and his dad raised his eyebrows. "Wait... You mean, like, a... like a keyword?" He asked and Sawyer sighed.

"Actually a name." Sawyer said slowly while glancing over at Scott, "Allison." He said in a slight whisper. "Her name broke a third of the list." Stiles said after a few seconds of silence, "And now we think there's two other cipher keys." Scott said and Stilinski nodded.

"Which will give us the rest of the names. Okay... So, how do we get the cipher keys?" Stilinski asked, "Same way we got the code." Stiles said and Sawyer nodded. "Lydia. Her and I have been at the lake house all weekend, trying to find the other two key words." Sawyer explained, "You didn't know about Demarco or Carrie? And what about these other two names on the list- uh, Kayleen Bettcher and Elias Town? They're Werewolves, too?" Stilinski asked and they all just shrugged.

"I don't know. But Deaton said that the Nemeton would draw supernatural creatures here." Scott said and the twins nodded in agreement, "Here being Beacon Hills, or Beacon County? The population of Beacon Hills is just under thirty-thousand-" Stilinski said.

"And dropping." Stiles and Sawyer both added, making their father give them a look, "But, if we're talking Beacon County, then you're looking at close to five hundred thousand. Look, how many Werewolves, Banshees, Kitsunes, Shapeshifters, Clairvoyants and whatever the hell else is out there are we talking about? And what if the next cipher key uncovers not twelve names, but one hundred?" Stilinski asked.

"We don't think there will be that many. There's a limit." Stiles said and Scott nodded, "Because of the numbers. We think that, once we decode the names, the numbers will add up to one-hundred-seventeen." He said and Stilinski raised his eyebrows.

"One-hundred-and-seventeen what?"

"Million." Sawyer said and Stiles started writing a "K" by any triple-digit number and a "M" by any double or single digit number. Sawyer sighed softly as Stiles wrote a "M" next to the twenty-three by her name.

"One-hundred-and-seventeen million dollars, stolen from the Hale vault and is being used by someone to finance all these murders." Stiles said and Scott nodded, "Someone who wants every supernatural in Beacon Hills dead." He said and Stilinski nodded slowly.

"So, the coded list goes out, and someone, these professional assassins get that list..." He trailed off and Sawyer nodded, "And a cipher key..." She said. "And then they go after the names on the list- they being killers with no mouths, tomahawks, thermo-cut wires that can take your head off." Stilinski said, "Carrie was also stabbed. What's this mark?" Stiles said looking at the photos.

"We're not sure yet. We're still waiting on the M.E.'s report. There's one other thing I don't get... How did this new assassin know that Demarco was going to be at the lake house?" Stilinski asked and Scott chuckled, "Everyone knows he delivers kegs to teenagers for a little extra cash." He said and Stilinski nodded slowly.

"Ahh. So, whoever ordered the keg killed Demarco." He said and Sawyer nodded, "Yeah, it was someone at the party..." She said.

"A student."

💰

"Please stop hovering." Lydia said, making Sawyer look up from Anakin to see Malia hovering over Lydia's shoulder. The three of them, along with Anakin, were sitting in the art room trying to see if Lydia would do some automatic drawing like she did with the Nemeton.

"I'm not hovering- I'm waiting! Draw something. Write something. We need to know who else is on that list." Malia said, making Sawyer raise her eyebrows, "You mean you need to know if you're on the list." She said and Malia looked at her and nodded. "If someone's coming to take my head off... then, yeah, I'd like to know."

Sawyer watched in amusement as Lydia tried to get back to it but Malia hovering over her shoulder was obviously way too distracting. "Can you please just sit down. You're making me nervous." Lydia asked and Malia awkwardly nodded and sat down next to Sawyer, "Sorry."

Sawyer watched as Lydia closed her eyes and looked like she was about to write or draw something when Malia spoke up. "Guys?" Malia asked, making Lydia sigh frustratingly, "What?" She asked but Malia didn't answer right away. "Oh my god, what?" Lydia asked, looking over at Malia.

"Maybe we need help... From another Banshee..." Malia said, setting the book down for them to see a picture of what kinda looked like someone screaming, "Meredith." Lydia said, sighing.

"Eichen House says Meredith can't have visitors without permission from a family member." Lydia said as they walked down the stairs, "That's not gonna be easy, since her whole family is dead." Sawyer said, making Lydia sigh. "Perfect."

"Okay... Maybe we go back to the art room? Or music room?" Malia said and Lydia turned to them, "I'm not plucking piano strings for two hours, waiting for some supernatural inspiration." Lydia said and Malia shrugged. "Fine! What else do Banshees do?" Malia asked, looking back and forth between Lydia and Sawyer.

"You think I know? I can't just turn this on. I'm not like you guys- I don't have claws, or glowing eyes, or super senses. I just have voices in my head." Lydia said obviously frustrated and Malia and Sawyer slowly glanced around to see some people looking at them weird.

"Lydia..." Sawyer sighed as Lydia turned around and walked away. Malia and Sawyer looked at each other and sighed, "I got her." Sawyer said before she and Anakin chased after Lydia. "Hey." Sawyer said as she caught up to Lydia before wrapping her arm around Lydia's shoulders.

"You know, I too, have voices in my head. Literally all day, everyday." Sawyer said and Lydia raised her eyebrows, "Yeah? Well, are those voices telling you anything? Like the next key?" Lydia asked and Sawyer focused on the whispers she always heard.

"Nothing." Sawyer said, making Lydia sigh in frustration and Sawyer raised her eyebrows. "You wanna borrow Anakin for the day? He works with stress too." Sawyer said and Lydia gave her a look, but couldn't help a small smile, "I'm not taking your service dog. You need him for a reason." Lydia said and Sawyer raised her eyebrows.

"Who said I wouldn't come with?" She asked, making Lydia give her a look, "Go to class." Lydia said and Sawyer groaned dramatically.

💰

"Did you steal these from dad?" Sawyer asked as she picked up one of the crime scene photos that Stiles was looking at during class. "Yep." Stiles said, not looking up at her and she nodded slightly before looking through them as well.

"Economic disparity exists in all forms. Well, take sports, for example. Some teams have better training facilities, some have better equipment... Unlike Beacon Hills, that can barely afford the duct tape to keep our equipment together." Coach explained as he started walking around the room. He walked up to Stiles' desk and banged the end of a lacrosse stick on top of it, making both Stiles and Sawyer jump.

"You know, Stilinski... If I could grade you two on how profoundly you disturb me, you two would be A-plus students." Coach said, making Stiles and Sawyer nod, "Thanks, Coach." They both said. "Put those pictures away." Coach said, tapping the desk again and Stiles noticed before looking down at the stick.

Suddenly Stiles grabbed the stick right as Coach was about to walk away. He looked at it for a second before ripping off the plastic end and holding up one of the pictures. "Stilinski! What the hell is wrong with you?" Coach asked, trying to pull the stick away but Stiles kept a tight hold on it as he looked back and forth between the end of the lacrosse stick and one of the pictures.

Finally Coach pulled the stick away and looked at Stiles like he was crazy, "Don't answer that." He said before walking away while Scott looked over at Stiles. "It's a lacrosse player." Stiles whispered, making Sawyer and Scott look at each other wide eyed, "The killer's on the team."

💰

"This is pointless- most of the team plays with their own gear." Scott said as he, Stiles, Kira, Sawyer and Anakin stood around Coach's office, the teens checking all the lacrosse sticks for a knife. "Maybe instead of trying to find a lacrosse stick with a hidden dagger in it, we should be trying to get the game canceled?" Kira asked and Sawyer sighed and shook her head.

"The game's the best way to catch him red-handed." Scott said, glancing over at Kira, "But what if he's red-handed 'cause his hands are covered in the blood of the person that he just stabbed to death?" Stiles said and Sawyer nodded. "Which, by the way, could be either of you guys or me!" Sawyer said while pointing between Scott and Kira.

"Or Liam." Scott said before sighing  "Well, we don't have the whole list, and he could be on it." Scott said. "We don't know anything about that list- how it's made, how it's updated. I mean, who's been out taking a supernatural census, anyway?" Stiles said and Kira sighed and shook her head. "How do they even know about me?" Kira asked and Scott sighed, "They know about everyone."

"Forget that they know that we're supernatural, how do they know my real name?!" Sawyer said dramatically, "I think Kira's right. I think we should stop the game." Stiles said and Scott sighed and shook his head. "I'm not afraid." Scott said, glancing at all of them, "Neither am I." Kira said, making Scott smile at her.

"Well, I'm terrified, and I'm not even on the list!" Stiles said, raising his arms up, "Guys, these are professional killers- it's their profession. One of them's got a thermo-cut wire that cuts heads off! Who knows what else they have?" Stiles said and Sawyer nodded. "We're dealing with actual assassins! That's only something you see in movies and to famous assholes!" Sawyer said, making them all look at each other.

💰

Scott, Stiles, Sawyer and Anakin walked outside right as Liam walked up to the Devenford Prep students. "I just wanted to say... Have a good game." Liam said, holding his hand out making them look at him shocked before the prep students started laughing.

"That's cute, Liam. Is that what they told you to say in anger management? Apologize, and everything's fine? You demolished Coach's car." Brett said, making Liam start to take deep breaths, "I paid for it." He said through clenched teeth. "Yeah, you're going to pay for it. We're gonna break you in half out there- and it's gonna be all your fault." Brett said.

Sawyer glanced down to see a drop of blood fall from Liam's clenched fist making her instantly run over and gently grab his shoulder, pulling him behind her as Scott and Stiles ran up. "Hey, what's up, prep students? Welcome to our little public high school! How you doing?" Stiles said holding his hand out for a hand shake but Brett just stared at him.

"That's a firm handshake you got there." Stiles said while Sawyer smiled, "We're very excited for the scrimmage tonight, uh, but let's keep it clean, alright? No rough stuff out there. All right, see you on the field! Go!" Sawyer said and Stiles and Scott started dragging Liam off the direction of the locker rooms.

Sawyer and Anakin ran in first and instantly ran into the showers, turning on the water as Scott and Stiles dragged a growling Liam over. "Okay... you calm yet?" Stiles asked after they held Liam under the water for a few minutes, all he got in response was Liam roaring. "Nope, not calm yet." Sawyer said as she pushed against Liam's chest to get him back under the water.

"Okay! Okay!" Liam panted as he calmed down making them let him go and Sawyer turned off the water. Liam walked over and leaned against the wall before sliding down. "That car you smashed... I thought you said that was your teacher's?" Scott asked and Liam looked up at the.

"He was also my coach. He benched me for the entire season." Liam said and Sawyer raised her eyebrows at him, "What did you do?" She asked and he sighed and looked down. "got a couple of red cards..." He said and Stiles tilted his head and raised his eyebrows, "Just a couple?"

"You gotta be honest with us- what else happened?" Scott asked as he crouched down in front of Liam, "Nothing. I got kicked out of school. They sent me to a psychologist for an evaluation." Liam said. "What did they call it?" Sawyer asked and he glanced up at her, "Intermittent explosive disorder." He said lowly.

"I.E.D.? You're literally an I.E.D.? That's great. That's great. You gave powers to a walking time bomb!" Stiles said, giving Scott a thumbs up, making Sawyer lightly hit his arm before she crouched down in front of Liam, "Did they give you anything for it?" She asked.

"Risperdal. It's an antipsychotic." Liam said and Stiles chuckled, "Oh, this just gets better..." Stiles muttered. "But I don't take it-" Liam said, "Obviously!" Stiles interjected, making Sawyer look at him, "Dude, shut up." She said.

"I can't play lacrosse on it, it makes me too tired." Liam said and Scott sighed and nodded, "Okay. I think you should bail out of the game. Tell Coach your leg is still hurting." Scott said, making Liam look up at him wide eyed. "No! No. I can do this- especially if you're there." Liam said, standing up and Sawyer sighed and shook her head.

"That's cool and all except this isn't just about the game. We think whoever killed Demarco may have been on our team." She said, making him look at her confused. "Who's Demarco?" He asked, "The one who brought the beer to the party? The guy who was beheaded, remember?" Stiles asked and Sawyer nodded. "We think the person who ordered the keg killed Demarco." She said and Liam slowly looked down.

"Liam...? What, you know something?" Scott asked making Liam look up at them, "I don't know who ordered the keg... But I know who paid for it."

💰

"Let's go! Let's go! Come on!" Coach yelled, making Scott's eyes widen before he went to stop Coach, "Hey, McCall! I said, get your ass out on the field!" Coach said. "But Coach, his leg's still healing. I don't think he should play." Scott said pointing at Liam and Coach shrugged slightly, "He says he's fine!"

"As Captain, I'm suggesting Liam sit out the game." Scott said, making Coach start laughing hysterically, "And, as President of the United States, I'm vetoing that suggestion." Coach said, making Scott sighed.

"What if he gets hurt?" Scott said and before Coach could say anything Brett called out, "Hey, Liam! Think fast!" He yelled before throwing a ball at Liam who instantly caught it with his bare hands. "Oh, he plays." Coach said before the whistle blew making Sawyer sigh before putting her helmet on. "There you go, Liam! Liam... Stilinski... Lady Stilinski... McCall...!" Coach called out as they all ran out to the field.

"Why do I feel like this is going to end badly?" Kira asked after Davenford Prep scored a goal and Stiles shrugged slightly, "Because it usually does..." He said and Scott turned to the girls. "Kira, you guys keep an eye on Garrett. I'll watch out for Liam. Sawyer, pay attention to anything the voices tell you." Scott said and she nodded while Stiles pursed his lips awkwardly.

"Yeah, I'm just gonna try to play lacrosse... All right..."

Scott and Brett faced each other for the ball and then a few seconds later the ref blew the whistle and Brett took off with the ball. Liam instantly charged forward but got knocked down by two Devenford Prep players as Brett scored a goal.

Liam jumped up and threw his helmet off before going to charge at the players that knocked him down, making Scott and Sawyer shoot forward to grab him. Liam calmed down slightly and Sawyer looked over to see Brett smirking making her roll her eyes.

"You guys know that anabolic steroids are illegal in the United States? You wear a lot of facial hair for a teenager... What are you on? Seriously- HGH? Gamma radiation?" Stiles asked as he was crouched down in front of a Devenford Prep player for the ball. Stiles quickly got the ball and tossed it to his sister who easily dodged a couple players.

"Kira!" She yelled before tossing the ball, making Kira catch it, "Go!" She yelled, making Kira's eyes widen before she took off. She dodged players left and right as she ran to the goal. "Pass it, Kira! Pass the ball!" Coach yelled from the sidelines but Kira didn't pay attention as she spun around and tossed the ball into the goal making the crowd cheer.

Kira laughed excitedly as she ran over to Scott but that excitement died down when Coach called out. "Yukimura! Get over here!" He yelled, making her eyes widen before she ran over to him, "Take a seat. You're benched for the rest of the game." He said, making her face fall. "What? Why???"

"You didn't pass!"

"I had an open shot..."

"The play was for you to pass! This is a scrimmage, it's about teamwork, Yukimura. So, you're benched." Coach said making Sawyer scoff slightly, "That's so unfair, pretty sure Brett's been the only one making scores for the prep school." Sawyer said and Stiles sighed and nodded slightly.

The next play a Davenford player had the ball until a couple Beacon Hills players knocked into him making him drop the ball. Scott quickly ran forward and scooped the ball up before running towards the other goal. The ball got passed around a couple players before getting passed to Sawyer who quickly ran for the goal.

Right as she was near the goal Brett ran towards her but she focused on him for a moment, listening to his mind. She quickly spun around him as he went to tackle her before tossing the ball into the goal making the crowd cheer. She turned to Brett with a smirk, "How's that ego of yours now?" She asked before walking over to her brother who high fived her.

A few plays later, Brett had the ball and both Garrett and Liam charged forward, the three of them roughly smacking into each other making everyone cringe. Brett was screaming in pain while Scott, Stiles and Sawyer ran over to Liam and helped him up.

"How hard did you hit him?" Scott asked and Liam slightly shook his head, "I didn't... He hit me." He said as he held up his arm that looked like the bone was close to poking out the skin. "Ow..." Stiles and Sawyer both cringed, while Scott glanced around as he took his gloves off.

He gently wrapped her hands around Liam's arm before looking at him, "Close your eyes." He said and Liam closed his eyes before Scott snapped his bone back into place making Liam groan.

Brett cried out in pain again as the paramedics lifted him up before carrying him away. All of the sudden the sound of metal scraping made Scott's head shot up while the whispers got louder, making Sawyer look up to find Garrett staring at them.

"Are you cut? Did Garrett cut you?" Sawyer asked as she grabbed Liam's shoulders and checked him over, "No. No, I'm okay." Liam said as Scott glanced at Stiles and Sawyer. "Then he missed..." Scott said, making Liam look at them confused, "What do you mean?" He asked and Scott turned to him.

"It's you, Liam... You're the one he's after."

💰

A little while later, Lydia and Malia sat around the office as Lydia sat in front of the desk and Malia slightly paced around. "Hey." Someone asked, making them spin around to see Sawyer standing behind them, "Shouldn't you be focusing on the game, not behind in our heads?" Lydia asked and Sawyer sighed.

"We're on a break time right now, but we really need the next part of the list. Garrett might be going after Liam and I have a feeling that he's definitely going to get someone." Sawyer said, and Malia thought for a moment as she glanced over at the phone on the desk.

"Guys... What if it's like algebra?" Malia asked, making them look at her confused, "What do you mean?" Lydia asked. "What if the numbers are actually letters?" Malia asked and realization crossed over Lydia and Sawyer's features as they looked at each other.

Sawyer quickly walked over to the phone, looking at the buttons for a moment before sucking in a deep breath as Lydia pulled her laptop out. "What is it?" Lydia asked, noticing the look on Sawyer's face, "Aiden." Sawyer said in a slight whisper making Lydia sigh softly as Sawyer moved to stand next to her before slowly typing AIDEN.

Malia and Sawyer looked over her shoulder to see names starting to fill the screen. Once all the names came up, a couple names stood out from the rest, "Shit." Sawyer said as she disappeared.

💰

"I talked to Coach. I'm out for the rest of the game." Liam said as he walked over to Scott and Kira, "What are you gonna do?" Kira asked and Scott sighed and shook his head. "I don't know... Something's still not right. We're missing something." He said and then Sawyer and Stiles ran up to them.

"Lydia just broke another third of the list." Sawyer said, making them look at her, "Am I on it?" Liam asked and she sighed and shook her head. "No... But someone else is." He said making realization cross over Scott's features. "Brett." He said before he quickly took off towards the locker room making Stiles and Sawyer run after him.

But when they made it to the locker room they found Scott standing over Garrett's girlfriend's, unconscious body. "I think you guys better call your dad."
