Chapter Forty-One
🦊 Silverfinger 🦊

"His eyes were glowing." Scott said and Argent nodded, "There was something almost ritualistic about it- like it was looking right into his soul." Argent said as Allison cleaned the cut on his forehead. "That's the same thing it did to me." Isaac said. 

"That's what they did to everyone." Allison said, not looking up from what she was doing, "Not everyone. They only came after the Werewolves." Scott said and Sawyer shook her head. "And Lydia and I." She said, glancing over at him, "Anyone with a connection to the supernatural." Argent said. 

"Then who was the guy they went after in Japan?" 

"A Kumicho- a Yakuza boss. "It was my first gun deal. I was only eighteen, and it was supposed to be a simple exchange... Except Gerard left out the minor detail of the buyers being Yakuza. He wanted to see if I could adapt in the moment. Testing my ability to, uh... improvise." He said and Allison raised her eyebrows, "Or, your ability to survive." She said. 

"The moment the sun came down, it was like they just materialized out of the shadows. They had swords- not curved like katanas, but straight, black steel, like ninjatos." Argent explained, "What did they want?" Sawyer asked. "To get to the Kumicho. They cut down every living thing in their way." Argent said while Allison still worked on the cut on his forehead. "Did they mark him like they did us?" Isaac asked as he hand went up to the back of his ear, "Not exactly." 

"What was he?" Scott asked after Argent explained what he saw, "I don't know. But, there might be someone who does. There were a few others who survived that night. One of them was a man named Katashi. They called him 'Silverfinger' because of an unusual prosthetic... And it looked like he was getting ready to take them all on himself. I've known for a while Katashi was in the country. I spent yesterday tracking him down." 

"Didn't look like he wanted to be found." Sawyer said, nodding to Argent's forehead that Allison just finished patching up. "Not particularly, no." Argent said and Scott leaned forward a bit, "You think he knows what they are? Or what they want?" He asked. 

"Maybe..." 

"What if he doesn't want to talk?" Allison asked as her father stood up, "What if he doesn't even remember you?" Isaac asked. "He'll remember this." Argent said, turning a wooden box around and opening it. He unfolded a cloth to reveal a broken mask of one of those creatures. "I know I didn't kill it- I'm not sure you can. But, I slowed it down long enough for us to get out of there." Argent said as Scott grabbed one of the pieces. "What was behind the mask?" Scott asked and Argent looked up at all of them. 

"Darkness. Absolute darkness." He said and Sawyer slowly reached out to grab a piece of the mask before her eyes clouded over. She started seeing flashes of the creatures fighting the twins, Derek and Scott at Scott's house before she dropped the piece of mask and her eyes went back to normal. 

"What did you see?" Argent asked and Sawyer looked at Scott, "They're gonna come after you. Tonight." She said, making him glance at everyone.

Sawyer pulled into a parking spot right as three bikes pulled up next to her. She got out right as Scott and the twins took their helmets off. "You guys going to be doing this all day?" Scott asked, looking in between the two twins as Sawyer got Anakin out the car. 

"All day." "All night." They said making Scott sigh and look at Sawyer with a mix of annoyed and exhaustion making her smile at him in amusement. "Is this about being in my pack?" Scott asked, "This is about you being the target of demonic ninjas." Aiden said, making Ethan look over at him. "You mean, the demonic ninjas that pulled swords out of their chests and completely kicked our asses?" Ethan said sarcastically, "Yeah. Those demonic ninjas." Aiden said just as sarcastic. 

"I don't need anyone to protect me." Scott said, looking over at Ethan. "They were looking right at you when the sun came up." He said and Scott nodded, "And they also disappeared." Scott said then looked over at Sawyer with raised eyebrows. "Don't look at me. They're your problem." She said, making him sigh, "Argent thinks that they could just come out at night." He said. 

"Since this is our first experience with demonic ninjas, we're thinking we should play it safe." Ethan said and Aiden nodded, "All day." He said. "And all night." Scott sighed, making Sawyer chuckle. 

They all walked inside and over to Scott's locker, "Okay, one thing first. We need to talk to Stiles and let him know everything that happened last night. Without the two of you." He said, making Aiden scoff, "No." He said and Scott raised his eyebrows. 

"Yes. And I don't want you listening in. No wolf-hearing." Scott said, making Aiden furrow his brows slightly, "How would you even know?" Aiden asked and Scott smirked. "I'm a True Alpha. You have no idea what I can do." Scott said before closing his locker. 

"So then, she starts talking about phosphors, and the key having chemicals on it, right? And so that made me think of the chemistry closet, and the fact that someone had to let Barrow in." Stiles said as he, Scott, Sawyer and Anakin walked into the chemistry room and he walked over towards the board only to find the coded message gone making him frown slightly. 

"It's gone... Okay, it doesn't matter though. It doesn't matter. I've still got the key-" He said as he ran over to the closet and pulled out his keys before shuffling through them, not being able to find the key. "What the hell? I had it- I had it here. I had it here this morning, I swear to God, I had it this morning." 

"The key you were talking about last night?" Scott asked and Stiles nodded, "Yeah. I showed it to you, right? Didn't I show it to you?" Stiles asked and Scott shook his head. "No, you just told me about it. I never actually saw it..." He said and Sawyer held her hand up slightly, "I saw the key." She said and Stiles sighed. 

"I was here a couple hours ago. And the message left to Barrow spelling Kira's name was right there on the board in my handwriting, and I had the key to the chemistry closet." Stiles said and Scott nodded slowly. "So, you unlocked the chemistry closet so Barrow could hide in from the cops, and then you wrote him a message to kill Kira?" Sawyer asked slowly, making Stiles sigh. 

"I know how it sounds... But look at this-" Stiles said as he pulled out a piece of paper making Sawyer walk over to them, "This is the news report that came out about Barrow when they caught him, okay? About the shrapnel bomb that he used. See this? See what he did? He put nuts, bolts, and screws, and then he hid the bomb and the detonator in a box that he wrapped as a birthday present. What does that sound like to you?" 

"Coach..." 

"That was my idea. You remember? That was my idea. That's no coincidence. It can't be." Stiles said and Scott sighed softly, "I don't want to sound like I'm trying to tell you that you're wrong... But I don't think you're trying to kill people, either." He said and Stiles looked at the board with a troubled look. 

"It was here. It was all here." He said and Sawyer looked at her brother concerned, "Stiles, are you feeling okay? You're looking really tired." She said as she grabbed his shoulder making him look at her and nod slightly. "Yeah, I'm fine. I just haven't been sleeping, really..." He said, making her sigh. 

"All right, that's it. Come on, we're leaving." She said before pulling him to the door, "What? Where?" He asked. "I'm driving you home so you can get some sleep." She said before grabbing her bag off a table and pulling him out of the classroom. 

A few minutes into the drive Stiles anxiously fidgeted with his keys while Anakin was sitting in the back, his head on Stiles' shoulder as Stiles looked over at Sawyer. "Can you... Can you take me to the hospital instead of the house?" He asked, making her glance at him worriedly, "Are you okay?" She asked and he nodded. 

"Yeah, yeah. I wanna talk to Melissa." He said and she looked at him for a moment, still worried, and nodded.

"Dr. Gardner's not back until next week... Do you want to try waiting for one of the urgent care doctors, or..." Melissa asked and Stiles shook his head and started backing up making both Melissa and Sawyer look at him worriedly. "Stiles? Are you alright?" Melissa asked as she stood up and walked around the desk while Sawyer gently grabbed her brother's shoulder. 

"I don't know... I guess... I guess not really?" Stiles said shakily with glossy eyes and Melissa glanced at Sawyer, who shook her head slightly and Melissa looked back at Stiles, nodding her head. "All right, kiddo, all right. Come with me. It's okay." Melissa said as she gently grabbed his arm and started directing him to a room, Sawyer and them. quickly following them. 

"Blackouts... But not for that long. And sleepwalking, which I used to do a lot as a kid... Um, I'm also having some really bad anxiety..." Stiles explained as he mindlessly petted the top of Anakin's head while Melissa wrote everything down. "Panic attacks?" Melissa asked and he nodded, "Yeah, a couple..." Stiles said and Melissa raised her eyebrows. 

"Have they been as bad as Sawyer?" Melissa said and Stiles shrugged slightly, "A little, I mainly get them after waking up during sleepwalking." Stiles said and Sawyer nodded slightly. "How many hours of sleep are you getting?" She asked and Stiles glanced down for a moment, "Eight." He said. 

"A night?" She asked, "In the last three days..." He said, making both Melissa and Sawyer look at him shocked as he counted on his fingers for a moment before nodding slightly. "Yeah, definitely eight." He said and Melissa nodded slightly, "Been feeling irritable?" She asked as she walked over to get something. 

"Yeah... possibly to the point of homicide..." He said and Sawyer nodded slightly, "That's putting it lightly." She mumbled. "Inability to focus?" Melissa asked and Stiles shook his head, "No, the Adderall's not working." He said and she nodded slightly. "Impulsive behavior?" She asked and he raised his eyebrows. 

"More than my usual? Hard to tell." He said and Melissa glanced at Sawyer who nodded slightly, "Yeah." She said. "Vivid dreams during the day?" Melissa asked as she turned back around while putting gloves on, "Okay, basically all of the above. Do you know what this is?" Stiles asked and Melissa nodded. 

"I think so." She said as she walked back over to them, this time holding a needle making Stiles eye it, "Uh, what's that?" He asked. "Do you trust me?" Melissa asked and Stiles raised his eyebrows slightly, "When you're not holding a needle..." He said, making her chuckle as she pulled his sleeve up a bit. 

"It's midazolam." She said before sticking the needle into his shoulder, "A sedative." Melissa said, making them both look at her shocked. "Why'd you give me a sedative?" He asked, "Because you, Stiles, are one profoundly sleep-deprived young man. You need rest, and you need it now. Lie down." Melissa said and Sawyer lightly pushed him to make him lay down. 

"Okay, how long's it take to-" Stiles started to ask but started to feel the effects, "Oh... Not long at all..." He said, making Sawyer chuckle slightly. "Get some rest." Melissa said softly as she pulled a blanket over him, "Thanks, Mom..." Stiles said as she went to turn off the lamp making both Sawyer and Melissa freeze slightly and look at him shocked. 

Melissa gently grabbed Sawyer's shoulder and smiled softly before turning off the lamp next to the bed. Sawyer looked at her brother in concern for a moment before sighing softly, grabbing Anakin's leash and walking out with Melissa.

"Who the hell is this?" Agent McCall said, looking out into the living room making them look over to see one of the demonic ninja creatures standing there. "Dad, no!Dad! Wait, Dad-" Scott yelled then all of the sudden another one of those creatures showed up, stabbing one of their ninjatōs through Agent McCall's shoulder making Kira scream. 

Melissa and Scott instantly ran over to him when all of the sudden the door opened, making Melissa pull Agent McCall off to the side as Derek ran into the house growling. "Mom the ash!" Scott yelled as he and Derek started fighting off the creatures. 

Sawyer walked through the kitchen door to see one of the demons show up behind Kira making Sawyer's eyes widen. She quickly ran forward, grabbing Kira's arm and pulling her down behind the table as the twins jumped through the kitchen window with a growl. 

Scott managed to toss one of the demons through a window then turned to his mom, "Mom, now! Do it now!" Scott yelled as Derek shoved the demon over through the door. Melissa ran over and smashed a glass jar of mountain ash in the doorway and it instantly formed into a line. One of the demons walked up to the line but didn't make any attempts at crossing making 

"All the baseboards are ash wood?" Derek asked as Scott walked up to them, "Uh- Yeah, it was Deaton's idea." Scott said before looking at Derek with furrowed brows. "And where the hell did you come from?" He asked and Derek glanced at him with a slight shrug. "I've been following you." 

"For how long?" Scott asked and Sawyer raised her eyebrows, "All day. Honestly for a true alpha I don't know how you didn't notice, I even noticed." Sawyer said. "Scott this isn't good!" Melissa yelled, making Scott run over to where she was while Sawyer stayed with Derek. 

"So, what are you?" They heard Aiden say, making them walk over to the kitchen. "She's a Kitsune, idiot. Use your eyes, you can see it all around her. The younger ones give off an aura. She just hasn't learned how to conceal it, yet. She probably doesn't know what kind she is, either." Derek said. 

"I wasn't going to hurt her." Aiden said as Sawyer sat down in one of the chairs, "Not yet." She said. "Why do you think we're here? For a study group? We're here to protect Scott." Aiden said and Ethan nodded, "We're trying to fight for him." He said and Derek nodded in amusement. 

"I'm sure you are. I'm sure you'd kill for him. But are you willing to die for him?" Derek asked, making the twins look at each other in thought. 

Before anyone could say anything, a rumbling started making Sawyer slowly stand up and look over at the doorway of the kitchen to see one of the demons hitting the mountain ash barrier with its ninjatō. "What are they doing?" Scott asked as he and Kira ran in. 

"They're testing for weaknesses." Sawyer said as she slowly stepped towards the door. The demons slammed their ninjatōs against the mountain ash barrier again and again. The more they did it the more the house shook as things fell off the kitchen counters and the light fixture swung back and forth like it was a giant earthquake. 

Suddenly they started to stab at the barrier making the mountain ash seem like it was fighting against them but was weak. One of the things started to press its hand down into the barrier, almost getting through. "Guys!" Sawyer said, making them all look over, "We have a problem." She said and Scott instantly pulled his phone out. 

"Allison, please tell me that you have something. They're here. They're trying to get in, and it looks like they're gonna be able to do it." 

"Okay, okay, listen. They're Japanese demons. They're called the Oni. They're looking for someone possessed- someone with a dark spirit attached to them." Allison said. "A Nogitsune..." Scott said, making them all look over at him as mountain ash kept getting weaker, "How'd you know that? Scott?" 

"Just... Tell me what else." 

"Okay. They won't hurt you. They know you're supernatural, but once they do this check, once they realize you're not carrying with you this dark spirit, then they won't hurt you. I promise. All they're looking for is the Nogitsune." 

"I'm right, aren't I? They're looking for me." Kira said as Scott pulled the phone away from his ear, "They're looking for a dark spirit. And I know it's not you." He said. 

"We're going to have to do something, Scotty." Sawyer said and as soon as she did the mountain ash barrier broke and the Oni stepped through the door. "Don't do anything." Scott said, making Sawyer, Derek and the twins look at him crazy, "Is he serious?" 

"I said, don't do anything." Scott said then turned to Kira and held his hand out, "Trust me." He said and Kira grabbed his hand and nodded before they walked past the others and stood in front of the Oni. 

The Oni walked up to them and instantly grabbed the side of their heads, staring into their eyes. Scott and Kira both slowly fell to their knees as their hands left each other's. Aiden went to take a step forward but Derek and Sawyer stopped him. The Oni leaned down closer to them as they tilted their heads to the side, still staring into their souls.

Finally they let them go, making them fall to the ground Kira instantly ran over towards Kira while Derek ran over to Scott. She glanced over at Scott before glancing up at Derek who looked at her then at Kira. Gently, Sawyer moved some of Kira's hair out the way to look behind her ear to see the same backwards five everyone else had. 

"She's good."

"Hey, stab wound to the left chest. Possible collapsed lung. Pulse is weak." Melissa said as she and other nurses rushed Agent McCall into the hospital on a gurney, Scott and Sawyer running in after them. "I'm gonna go find my brother, you stay with your mom." Sawyer said and Scott and Melissa nodded. 

She ran down the hall towards Stiles room to see it empty making her furrow her brows before glancing around until she heard a thud down the hall making her cautiously walk over to a room. Glancing through the window she saw her brother standing there making her walk in. 

As she walked in, she could hear a bunch of incoherent whispers all around her. Her steps slowed slightly as she eyed her brother warily, "Stiles? You alright?" She asked slowly. Stiles turned around, raising his eyebrows slightly as he looked at her, "Yeah, fine. What's been going on?" He asked as he walked over to her. 

"A lot." She said as she slightly looked him up and down, "What's wrong?" Stiles asked and she shook her head, still looking at him warily. "Nothing, but we should probably go find Scott." She said and he nodded. 

"Let's go then." He said and she slowly nodded before following him out the door. Not noticing the dying firefly next to her foot.
