Chapter Thirty-Nine
🦊 Galvanized 🦊

"Get your ass down here now. We have a job to do." Stiles said into the phone as he and Sawyer walked into the locker room. "Dude, I'm already in bed. And aren't we getting a little old for this?" Scott asked, sounding tired making Sawyer scoff, "We do this for Coach." 

"I thought we did this to Coach." 

"Whatever, okay? You know he needs this. He lives for this stuff. He loves it." Stiles said, making Scott sigh, "But it's the middle of the night." He said. 

"12:15 actually." Stiles said opening his locker,  "Which means it's after midnight and officially Mischief Night/Day, and, by perfectly awesome coincidence, it also happens to be Coach's birthday." Sawyer said and Stiles nodded in agreement. 

So if you are not down here in five seconds, I will destroy you. Okay? And I mean five, four, three, two -" Stiles counted down and Scott slowly emerged out of the shadows with his eyes glowing right as the twins turned around making them both gasp and fall to the ground, "One." 

"I hate you." Stiles and Sawyer both said.

Scott pulled into a parking spot as the twins pulled in a little ways away from them. "You're back in school?" Scott asked as he walked up to them and Ethan shook his head, "No, just to talk." He said. 

"Oh, that's kind of a change of pace for you guys. Usually you're just hurting, maiming, and killing..." Stiles said as he, Sawyer and Anakin walked up to them, "You guys need a pack. We need an Alpha." Aiden said and Sawyer laughed, "Yeah, absolutely not! That's very hilarious, though." She said. 

"You came to us for help- we helped." Ethan said and Stiles squinted at him, "You beat his face into a blood pulp! That's not helping- in my opinion, that's actually counter-productive." Stiles said and Scott shrugged slightly. 

"Why would I say yes?" He asked, "We'd add strength. We'd make you more powerful. There's no reason to say no." Aiden said as Isaac walked up to them. "I can think of one. Like the two of you holding Derek's claws while Kali impaled Boyd. In fact, I don't know why we're not impaling them right now." Isaac said. 

"You want to try." Aiden said in a low growl, flashing his blue eyes and canines. Isaac smirked and stepped forward but Scott grabbed his arm making him step back. "Sorry, but they don't trust you. And neither do I." Scott said and they all walked away from the twins. 

As soon as they walked into the school a roll of toilet paper came flying at them making them all flinch back, "All right, that's my face! Hey, dude, good decision, buddy. Good Alpha decision." Stiles said, patting Scott on the chest. 

"I hope so." 

"No, you know so." Stiles said, opening up his locker before shoving a carton of eggs in the locker. Sawyer looked at Scott, noticing him looking somewhere else. Following his line of sight she saw Kira picking up some of her stuff making Sawyer look back at Scott with a knowing smirk. "What are you looking at?" She asked in a teasing tone, "Me?" Scott asked and she nodded. 

"You. You looking at her?" She asked and he raised his eyebrows, "Her? Who her?" He asked. "Her her. Kira. You like her?" Sawyer asked, making Scott's eyes widen slightly, "No. I mean Yeah, yeah, she's okay. She's new." He said and they nodded. "So, ask her out." Stiles said and Scott looked at him crazy. 

"Now?" He asked and Sawyer nodded, "Yes now." She said and Scott raised his eyebrows. "Right now?" He asked and Stiles nodded, "Right now. Scott, I don't think you get it yet. You're an Alpha. You're the apex predator. Everyone wants you. You're like the hot girl that every guy wants." Stiles said. 

"The hot girl?" Scott asked, raising his eyebrows as Isaac walked up to them. "You are the hottest girl." Sawyer said smiling before she, Anakin and Stiles walked away. "What?" Isaac asked, looking confused. "I'm the hot girl." Scott said and Isaac slowly nodded. 

"Yes, you are." He said and Scott looked at him with a smile and laughed before walking away. 

Walking into Econ, Sawyer sat behind Stiles while Scott sat next to him and Anakin laid down to Sawyer. "Son of a bitch!" Coach suddenly yelled, making a few students flinch and most laugh. Scott, Stiles and Sawyer looked at each other with smiles, knowing exactly what happened. 

"Mischief Night, Devil's Night. I don't care what you call it. You little punks are evil." Coach said walking back and forth in front of the class. The three best friends couldn't hold their smiles as they watched him. "You think it's funny every Halloween my house gets egged? A man's house is supposed to be his castle." Coach said and then hit Scott's desk making him jump while Stiles pumped his fist and Sawyer laughed. "Mine's a frickin' omelet!" 

"Oh, this? We're gonna do this again?" Coach said, picking up a gift box off his desk. Scott glanced at Stiles and Sawyer confused and they just shrugged, equally confused. "I don't think so." He said, dropping it on the ground and smashing his foot down on it. People flinched as the sound of glass breaking came from the box. 

Coach bent down and picked up a piece of glass that was obviously from a mug that had a picture of his face and under it said "#1 COACH" He picked a card, ripping it open before reading it, "Happy Birthday. Love, Greenberg." He read. 

As Coach ranted some more about mischief night for a couple more minutes. As he was ranting, Sawyer winced slightly as a slight buzzing noise started. At first it sounded like it was right by her ear but then started sounding like it was inside her head causing a sharp pain. "Barrow..." She heard multiple voices whisper, making her groan quietly, putting her head in her hands as Anakin sat up and turned to her. 

She winced slightly as the buzzing sound got louder before she started seeing flashes of a man stapling his stomach. 

Scott glanced back at her before furrowing his brows, looking at her in concern. "Sawyer?" He asked, catching Stiles's attention making him turn around to notice his sister's pained expression. "Woah, hey? Are you okay?" Stiles asked worriedly and Sawyer nodded slightly as she looked up, "Headache." She said but they still looked worried. 

"Are you sure?" Scott asked and she nodded, "Yeah, I'll be fine." 

After class, Sawyer and Anakin walked up to Lydia before Sawyer leaned against the locker next to her's, making Lydia look at her. "No." Lydia said, making Sawyer furrow her brows, "No?" Sawyer asked and Lydia nodded. "I'm not talking to you." Lydia said and Sawyer looked at her confused, "Why?" She asked. 

"Because you said you'd watch The Notebook with me but then you went with your brother to prank Coach." Lydia said and Sawyer raised her hands up in defense slightly, "I said we could watch it tonight instead." She said and Lydia just gave her a look, making Sawyer's eyes widen. 

"Was that supposed to be a date?" Sawyer asked and Lydia just closed her locker before turning to Sawyer. "It was, wasn't it?" Sawyer asked and Lydia rolled her eyes, "It wasn't but you promised to watch The Notebook." Lydia said and Sawyer nodded slightly. 

"And I promise to watch it with you tonight." Sawyer said and Lydia just gave her a look before walking away. Sawyer looked down at Anakin as he looked up at her for a moment before they quickly followed after Lydia.

"Barrow went after kids with glowing eyes? He said those exact words?" Isaac asked as he, Sawyer, Anakin, Lydia, Stiles and Allison rushed down the stairs. "Yeah. And no one knows how he woke up from anesthesia. Just that when they opened him up, they found a tumor full of live flies, which in any other circumstance would be all kinds of awesome." Stiles explained. 

"Did you say flies?" Lydia and Sawyer asked at the same time, making them all turn to them, "Lydia? Sawyer?" Allison asked worriedly. "All day I have been hearing this sound. It's like this buzzing." Lydia said and Sawyer nodded, "I've been hearing it too, it's why my heads been hurting all day." 

"Like the sound of flies?" Allison asked, walking up to Lydia and Sawyer, "Exactly like the sound of flies." Lydia said and Sawyer nodded in agreement.

"Sorry...Hey, dude, where the hell have you been?" Stiles asked as he, Sawyer and Anakin ran up to Scott. "The police are leaving. Why are they leaving?" Lydia asked when she ran up to them, making their eyes widen. "They must have cleared the building and grounds, which means he's not here." Sawyer said, and Scott just looked at them confused, "Who? What are you guys.." 

"He has to be here." Lydia said and Sawyer nodded, "That sound. The buzzing we've been hearing? It's getting louder." She said and Stiles sighed slightly. "How loud?" He asked and Sawyer shook her head a bit with a sigh, "Like my head is going to self-destruct."

"Dad. Dad!" Stiles and Sawyer said as they and Anakin chased after their father down the stairs, "You can't leave yet." They said and he dad turned to him. "We got an eyewitness that puts Barrow by the train station." Stilinski said and Agent McCall turned around to look at him, "Let's go, Stilinski!" He yelled. 

Stilinski went to walk away with them but Stiles stopped him, "Whoa, whoa, Dad! Please, just- Lydia and Sawyer said that he's still here." Stiles said, making their dad walk over to them. "Did you guys see him?" He asked, looking at Sawyer and she sighed, "Not exactly, no... not at all, actually. Well- I had a vision but I couldn't tell if it was here. But we have a feeling- a supernatural feeling." Sawyer said and looked over to where Lydia was standing, looking at something on the wall. 

"Lydia wasn't on the chessboard." He said and Stiles shrugged, "She is now." He said. "Kanima?" Stilinski asked and Sawyer shook her head, "Um, banshee." She said making her dad groan slightly, 

"I know, I know how it sounds. But basically, it means that Lydia can sense when someone's close to death." Sawyer explained quickly. "Can she sense that I'm about to kill the two of you?" Stilinski said and the twins pursed their lips, "I don't know." They said before they both turned to look at Lydia. Lydia looked over at them with a smile and slight wave making Stilinski smile and wave back. 

"All right, look- I'm not saying I don't believe, but right now, I'm going with eyewitness over Banshee and... Clairvoyant. We're leaving a few deputies here. The school's on lockdown until three o'clock. Nobody comes in, nobody comes out." Stilinski said as he started to walk away while the twins made a face, "Guys, that's the best I've got right now. That's the best I can give you-" 

"You're leaving us here??? That's not- that is the worst."

"The bestiary is literally a thousand pages long. If I'm going to find anything about flies coming out of people's bodies, it could take me all night." Allison said as Sawyer opened one of the windows in a classroom. "And remember- the word in archaic Latin for "fly" is musca." Lydia said as Allison climbed through the window. 

"Got it." Allison said and Sawyer closed the window before Lydia held out Anakin's leash to her, "Where do we start?" Lydia asked. "Upstairs." Sawyer said before glancing at the clock, "We gotta go." Stiles said and they nodded and ran off. 

"Scott and Isaac are in the basement, right?" Lydia asked as they looked around the art room, "Yeah, with Ethan and Aiden. The plan is they meet us in the middle, in the boiler room." Stiles said. Sawyer looked around when a picture of a mushroom cloud made her realize something. 

"All of the wolves... All of the ones with glowing eyes, are in the basement, at the boiler room?" She asked and realization crossed Stiles' face, "Oh, my God! An engineer could use a boiler room to blow up the whole school." He said. 

"We have to get them out of there." Lydia said with wide eyes and Sawyer nodded, "We have to get everyone out." Sawyer and Stiles both said. "How do we do that?" Lydia said and Sawyer pursed her lips, "I have an idea."

Sawyer and Lydia stood in front of Stiles who was pulling the fire alarm, watching everyone walk out the school. Sawyer smirked, before turning to look at Stiles who smiled happily at her. But his smile started to fall with her eyes widened as she looked at something behind him. 

Slowly he turned around to see Coach staring at him, right behind him, making him jump. Coach grabbed Stiles by the ear and grabbed Sawyer's arm before he started dragging them outside, Lydia following behind them. "Pulling a fire alarm on Mischief Night is one thing- doing it when there's a mass murderer spotted nearby is insane! If I was four years younger, I'd punch you!" He said, making them look at him weird. 

"What? Coach, that doesn't make any sense..." They both said, "Well it does to me!" Coach yelled before walking away and Lydia walked up to them. "There!" Stiles said pointing at where they saw Scott and Isaac. Sawyer grabbed Lydia's hand and the three of them, plus Anakin, ran over right as Ethan and Aiden ran over as well. 

"We didn't find anything." Aiden said and Scott shook his head, "Not even a scent." He said and Stiles sighed. "It's 3:00, so school's over. If there was a bomb, wouldn't he have set it off by now?" Stiles said, looking at everyone. 

"Does that mean everybody's safe?" Ethan asked and they looked at Lydia and Sawyer who shook their heads, "I don't know. I just don't know." Lydia said and Sawyer sighed, glancing around at all the students before looking back at her friends. 

"I feel like something's still going to happen..."

Lydia laid on her stomach on Stiles's bed with Anakin laying next to her, pretty much using her back as a pillow, as she watched Stiles and Sawyer work on a crime board. "What do the different colored strings mean?" Lydia asked, making Sawyer glance back at her, "Oh, just different stages of the investigation." Sawyer said and Stiles nodded. 

"So, green is solved, yellow is to be determined, blue's just pretty..." He said with a shrug while Sawyer nodded, making Lydia squint at the board before looking at the red yarn next to her. "What does red mean?" She asked, "Unsolved." Stiles answered and Lydia raised her eyebrows. 

"You only have red on the board." She said and they turned to look at her with their hands on their hips, "Yes, we're aware, thank you." They said sarcastically. "Did you get detention for pulling the alarm?" Lydia asked as she started to mess around with some of yarn, "Yep- every day this week." Sawyer said and Stiles nodded. "It's okay, though. We were onto something." He said and Lydia sighed while Sawyer raised her eyebrows. 

"Even though we couldn't find any proof of Barrow being there?" Lydia asked as she looked down at her hands. Sawyee glanced over at her to see her looking down at the string she was playing with, with a slightly disappointed look on her face. 

"Hey, Lydia." Sawyer said as she moved to kneel down in front of Lydia, "You've been right every time something like this has happened, okay? So, don't start doubting yourself now." She said and Lydia sighed. "No scent? No bomb? And you guys got in trouble..." She said as she looked back down at the string wrapped around her finger. 

"Okay, look." Sawyer said as she grabbed Lydia's hand, "Barrow was there, all right? You knew it. I knew it. You felt it. I felt it, pretty sure I even saw it." She said as she unwrapped the string around Lydia's finger. "Okay? And look, if you wanted to, I'd go back to that school right now and search all night just to prove it." Sawyer said while intertwining their fingers making Lydia look at her and smile softly. 

Stiles stared at them, deep in through for a moment before setting down a pen he had making them look at him. "Get up. Get up now. We're going to the school."

"So, what are we looking for?" Lydia asked as she, Sawyer and Stiles walked into the chemistry class. Without answering her, Stiles turned and opened the storage closet making Sawyer and Lydia glance at each other, "That was supposed to be locked." Sawyer said slowly. 

"Yeah, I know. Notice anything else?" Stiles asked, glancing over at them. "It smells like chemicals." Lydia said and realization crossed over Sawyer's features, "They wouldn't have been able to catch his scent." Sawyer said and Stiles nodded as he looked around until he found blood and staples on the ground. 

"This is where he was in my vision. Where he was stapling himself." Sawyer said and Stiles nodded, "He was here, performing very minor surgery on himself. You guys were right." Stiles said, looking up at them. "Then why don't I feel good about this?" Lydia asked and Sawyer sighed, 'Probably because he was here to kill somebody." She said, making Lydia look at her. 

"But who?" 

"That's what we gotta figure out." Stiles said and stood up, walking back into the class, "We could spread out, start looking for... anything.." Stiles said and started looking around while Lydia walked over to the board making Stiles and Sawyer look over. "What are those?" Stiles asked as they came up to stand next to her. 

"Atomic numbers." Lydia said and Sawyer furrowed his brows, "Is it a formula?" She asked and Lydia shook her head. "Not really... Nineteen's potassium. Fifty-three's iodine. Eighty-eight's radium. The first two make potassium iodide." Lydia explained and then wrote a "K" next to potassium, "Potassium is K?" Stiles asked. 

"From kalium, the scientific neo-Latin name." Lydia said as she wrote an I next to iodine, "What's radium?" Sawyer asked and Lydia slowly wrote an "Ra" making Sawyer's eyes widen. "Kira... Barrow's after Kira and Scott's with Kira!" She said before quickly running out the class making Stiles and Lydia follow her.

Stiles, Sawyer and Lydia pulled up to Kira's house and ran over to Scott who was passed out on the ground. "Scott? Scott!" Stiles yelled as Scott started to wake up. Once he awoke he remembered what happened making him instantly shoot up and look around. "Barrow, he took Kira!" He said and Stiles nodded, "We know. He was after her the whole time." 

"Alright thanks." Scott said before hanging up the phone and walking back over to his friends. "We have to think of something. He's going to kill her." Scott stressed, "We knew he was there. How did we know that?" Lydia asked, looking at Sawyer, making them look at her. "Because we heard the flies and I had a vision." Sawyer said, "What do you hear now?" Scott asked and Lydia looked down at the ground and sighed. 

"Nothing." She sighed and Sawyer nodded in agreement, "I feel like I can do this. But I don't know what to do. It's like it's on the tip of my tongue, and I don't know how to trigger it. I just- I swear to God, it literally makes me want to scream." Lydia stressed, taking a few steps away from them as realization crossed over Sawyer's features. "Then scream. Don't hold it back. Lydia scream." Sawyer said. 

Next thing they know Lydia lets out a long high pitch scream making Scott and Stiles cringe and cover their ears while Sawyer doesn't seem affected by it. When she stopped screaming both Lydia and Sawyer slowly looked up at the street lamp, hearing the same buzzing noise again. 

"It's not flies." Lydia said then quickly spun around making the boys jump back a bit, "It's electricity." She said before Sawyer's eyes clouded over. She saw flashes of Barrow holding an electrical wire towards Kira. Sawyer's eyes went back to normal, before she turned to her brother. 

"Barrow was an electrical engineer, right? He worked at a power substation?" She asked, making them realize what she was hinting at. 

"What substation?"

Stiles's jeep and Scott's bike pulled up to the substation at the same time. Scott hopped off his bike and ran off as Stiles hopped out of the jeep. "Maybe you should just wait here. Wait for the cops to come." Sawyer said, making Lydia look at her confused. "Why?" Lydia asked and Stiles held up the bat, "I only got one bat." He said before running off.

"What about you?" Lydia asked and Sawyer shrugged slightly, "I have self defense training." She said before smiling at her and running after her brother.
