"Where's the mission going to be?" Asked Sana, as they entered the ship. 

"I'll explain later." Said Carter. 

"You know, I really, really don't like you." Said the brunette, glaring at him. 

"Is this thing made entirely out of Nth metal?" Gasped Maxine, intervening before her friend did or said something out of line. 

"Everything down to the screws. It's practically indestructible." Replied Carter. "I'll be in the cockpit if you need me." 

"Good thing you said 'if'. I doubt I'll need you." Sana scoffed.

"Do you guys have any snacks?" Al asked. 

"Second that. I was promised food." Sana raised an eyebrow, glaring at Carter. Kent, on the other hand, put a hand on the Khandaqi's shoulder, saying, "Calm yourself, child. Things will look up for you soon."

"You're that future guy, right? I remember my brother reading a comic about you. I'd bought it for him." Sana felt her hand go to the small necklace at her throat, where she'd kept something very special to her. 

"There's no use in dwelling, my child." Kent smiled. "It's over and done now. Your mother still loves you, as does your brother." At the mention of the two, Sana clenched up and swatted Kent's hand away. "Don't read my mind." 

"As you wish. But you must know now, our mission is in Khandaq." Said the old man, walking away. 

"I'm sorry, WHAT?! No. No, no, no, no, no. I refuse to be on this plane. Let me the hell off." Sana marched towards the door, but Maxine stopped her with a gust of wind. 

"...That is cold. Both literally and figuratively." Sana glared at her best friend. 

"You're going to face this shit, whether you like it or not, Sunny." The redhead raised an eyebrow at her. 

Rolling her eyes, Sana stood next to her friend, looking over at the reports she was going over. The flight was long, and the brunette found herself zoning out into an old memory.

Flashback

"Mama?!" A confused 9-year-old Sana looked for her mother, who was with 4-year-old Amon. Intergang was patrolling the marketplace strictly, looking for both her and Adriana. The woman was preoccupied with her son, and didn't notice that her daughter was missing.

An Intergang soldier caught sight of her, and immediately caught up to the girl, with an evil sneer. "You're coming with me." He said, catching her by the hair so that she had no escape. 

"Let go of me, you barbarian!" She screamed, kicking and flailing around. "Mama, help!" Adrianna didn't  hear her, and had already fled the scene, leaving the little girl defenseless. As she felt something prick into her neck, her whole vision went black.

End

"Sunny, hello?" Maxine snapped her fingers in front of the girl's face. "Earth to Sana Tomaz?" 

Blinking rapidly, Sana mumbled, "Uh I'm here no, I zoned out." 

"Was it that day again?" Maxine took her friend's hand tenderly in her own, "You know, it's over now, right?" 

"I-I know, it's just--" Sana ran a hand through her hair impatiently, "I still can't get over how my mom just left me." 

Cupping her friend's cheeks in her hands, Maxine pressed a reassuring kiss to Sana's forehead, and put an arm around her, as Al walked around aimlessly. 

"So...what's your thing?" He asked, waving his arms around for emphasis. 

"Wind. You?" 

"I grow." Said the boy, his mouth full of food. "And you, Egyptian girl?"

"You grow? As in, what do you grow? Be specific, atom child." Sana scoffed. "And I have a name."

"Sorry, um, Sana, what's your thing?" He asked, swallowing his food. "And I grow my body to ten times it's size."

"I shift shape, and control darkness." Said the brunette, leaning a little onto Maxine, who placed her arm around Sana lovingly.

"Cool, cool, cool." Admitted Al.

--Time Skip--

"I wouldn't touch that if I was you." Maxine warned, when the boy was about to touch Kent's helmet.

"Why not?" He asked, raising an eyebrow. 

"'Cause that helmet is from another planet." Sana uncrossed her arms and walked over to where Maxine was. "It's millions of years old. It chooses who it lets touch it."

"Like Kent?" Al asked.

"Yeah." The Khandaqi grimaced.

"Like, Kent is literally possessed when he puts it on." Maxine added. "Sunny, catch." She tossed an energy bar at the girl, noticing her getting antsy.

"Thanks, Maxy." Sana grinned.

"What happens if I touch it anyway?" Al asked. 

"Soul crushing terror? Or... something." The redhead laughed.

"Or like, your whole being gets sucked out of existence." Sana added, mouth full of energy bar.

"So we should probably put a towel on it, right?" He asked awkwardly..

Carter entered the room and noted, "Ready stations in five."

"Hey, why is this Adam dude so pissed off?" Al asked, following the man a little.

"He's not some dude. He's a weapon of mass destruction." Kent nodded, making his point.

"You don't have to raise your hand." Sighed Carter, seeing Maxine doing so.

"Question: if he's so powerful, how are we supposed to stop him?" She asked.

Immediately, Kent said, "If we can get him to say the word, 'Shazam,' Teth Adam will lose his power. Or, if he is exposed to any sort of demonic force." He shot a knowing look at Sana, who glared at him fiercely with her gold eyes. 

"And we're hoping since he's had a few thousand years to sleep it off, we can peacefully negotiate the terms of his existence." 

"From the footage you showed us, he doesn't really seem like a "peacefully negotiate" kind of guy." Admitted Maxine, giving her best friend a look to stay quiet.

"Correct." Kent said. 

"Look alive. We're here." Carter said curtly.

"I hate y-" Sana was about to spit out, but Maxine covered her mouth with a sharp, "Okay, shut up now, please."

"When we give you guys the signal, you leap in." Said Kent, looking at Sana. "And we need you all to focus on saving the people."

"Well, the people can go save their sorry little--" Sana's mouth was covered by Maxine yet again. "God, please shut up, Sunny." Said the redhead.

Sana frowned and shot muffled curses at Carter and Kent, both of whom chuckled at her and went back into the cockpit.

"Sana was...not a good choice for this mission." Carter sighed, when the door was closed.

"On the contrary, she was the best choice." Admitted Kent. Upon seeing his best friend look at him, he explained, "This is an opportunity for her to fix past relationships, and reunite with someone who she needs to. She needs to go back home."

Sighing, "For both your and her sake, I hope you're right Kent."

--Time Skip--

All the people were in the cockpit, all suited up except for Sana, who was in her oversized (and slightly dirty) t-shirt and cuffed jeans.

"No suit?" Asked Al.

"You'll see, size 13." Chuckled Sana, ruffling his hair.

"He's here." Said Kent, his hand on his helmet.

"You sense his presence?" Asked Maxine.

"No. I can assume that he's the only one who can do that." Kent pointed at the man outside who was flying and about to drop two people.

"Shit." Carter swore, leaping out of the plane and catching the two men.

"Well, time to go to work." Said Dr. Kent, walking out of the plane after putting on his helmet.

"Alright, apparently we start on their signal. Which is when, I have no idea at all." Sighed Sana. She pulled her hair from the braid she'd put it up in, and turned her hand palm down to up lightly, allowing her outfit to change into a black sleeveless crop top with black jeans. The outfit showed her thin but toned figure, obtained from meagre meals but a good workout.

"Damn." Whispered Maxine, eyes travelling over her friend's confident features, while a blush decorated her cheeks.

"Like what you see, sweetheart?" Chuckled Sana, looking at her flustered best friend.

"Maybe." Sniggered Maxine.

"I don't know what the hell's going on here, but how gay are the two of you?" Al asked.

"Very." "A little." Sana and Maxine replied in unison.

All of a sudden, Hawkman appeared to be fighting Teth Adam and losing badly, which made Sana scoff, "I have to help the Bird Man now. See you in a few." With those words, she opened the hatch and dropped down, letting falcon wings and talons spread out of her back at the last moment.
