ย  ย  ย  ย ย  A poorly lit light flickered obnoxiously in one of Hawkins Laboratory's designed interrogation room. The small room reeked of heavy bleach cleaner and must but somehow, it's researchers endured in order to complete their designated studies.

In the small room, four figures sat together at a metal table. Most of them were adults, who worked at the lab as researchers. But there was one little girl who sat among them and she happened to be the main test subject of the experiment.

The little girl was only known by one name, subject nine. She had no other name (that she could remember) but that's what all of the adults referred her to. She was just the ninth child to participate in their very important studies.

To put it into perspective, Nine was different from other kids. Sure, she looked and act like every other child but she was special. And by special, I mean that she possessed a unique set of an abilities that nobody of the human race could ever imagine.

Her mind was inherently advanced than the average person. She was gifted with the ability of mind control. She was able to tap into the core of any random person's mind and make them see whatever she wanted them to. She could create any optical illusion and use it to her benefit, making her a very special child.

"Nine." Dr Brenner called, breaking the young girl out of her daydreaming. She stopped staring at the ceiling above and instantly locked eyes with the older man, who sat beside her.

"Are you ready to proceed with the experiment?" He asked in a gentle tone.

Despite the girl's constant participation in these experiments, she was still uncomfortable around most of the adults. She just sat in her hair, nervously fiddling with her simple braids. She so desperately wanted to get this done and over with and go back to the main playroom to draw.

"Yes, Dr Brenner." Nine nodded obediently.

"Good, good, that's what I like to hear." Dr Brenner sighed in relief at her obedience. He glanced over at the other researchers and nodded to confirm that he was about to start the experiment.

"What you're going to do for me is very special? I'm gonna need you to go through everyone's mind in this room to see who's lying." Dr Brenner explained, placing down a collection of pictures onto the table.

The older man found that Nine's powers worked better when she focused on a still object. She had yet to fully master her powers due to her young age but when there were distractions present, her powers seemed to be more uncontrollable. The display of pictures would help the girl concentrate better and tap deeper into her abilities.

"Can you do that for me?" Dr Brenner asked.

"Yes, I can." Nine confirmed.

"Good." He nodded happily. "Now focus on each picture and take as much time as you need in order to solve the problem."

Nine nodded in compliance, pushing her chair closer to the table in order to get a better look at the five pictures that were on the table. She rested her elbows on the cold surface, allowing her eyes to focus on the familiar faces on the polaroids.

As nine focused on the pictures, her mind began to shed itself of any intrusive thoughts that could harm the task at hand. She allowed her mind to go completely blank, making it easier to absorb the memories she would have to sort through in order to find the information needed.

Nine's blank mind suddenly became crowded with flashes of memories. She received all sorts of memories ranging from all different types of emotions. She saw them celebrating joyful events in their lives like marriages or the birth of their children. She also saw the saddening events like the death of a loved one.

As Nine delved deeper into their minds, the memories became more traumatic. These were the memory events that were being buried at the bottom of the consciousness due to the severity of the subject matter. The things that these men wished to forget and never wanted to discuss, was being violated by a young child.

This was the part of the experiment that had a severe negative impact on the young girl. The deeper she went into their consciousness, the more traumatic the memories became. She was forced to live through these awful tragedies and have them engraved permanently in her mind. The things she had seen at such a young age was sick.

"You're okay, none. Just go a little deeper. You're doing a great job." Dr Brenner encouraged.

The young girl squeezed her eyes shut in pain, allowing tears of sorrow to stream down her face. She hated the emotions that were currently plaguing her. Her knuckles practically turned bright white due to how intense she balled up the fabric of her hospital gown.

Once she had gotten past the more traumatic memories, she was only left with the event that she was instructed to experience. It was the event that formally identified the liar of the scientists.

Dr Brenner had discovered that one of his closest companions was relaying their private research to the press but he didn't know who. He realized Nina could find the information for him in a quick way and that's what she did. The girl had found said memory within an instant.

"Him." Nina's eyes harshly shot open and she pointed her finger towards one of the unsuspecting scientists that stood behind the glass. The man in question looked back at her with fear filled eyes.

"He's the liar. He's selling your secrets to the press." Thirteen clarified to Dr Brenner, who happily nodded at the information.

Suddenly, two security guards stepped forward and pushed the traitor scientist against the wall. They began to wail deadly punches onto the helpless man, with the intends of murdering him. The other scientists all fled the room as they could not bear to see a colleague being beaten to death.

The screams of the man filled the room, causing Nine to shed more tears. She was the sole responsibility for this man's death. His blood was on her hands and she couldn't do anything to stop it.

"No! Stop it! They're killing him! They're killing him!" Nine shouted in between sobs, thrashing about in her seat.

The security guards ignored her pleas and continued to beat the living daylights out of the traitor scientist. The man screams became louder, causing the young girl to sob even harder.

"Stop! Please stop!" Nine demanded.

Another security guard ran into the room and grabbed a hold of the screaming girl. He tried to pick her but her constantly thrashing made the task seem more difficult then it should of been. She kept trying to fight off his grips by flailing about in his embrace, all while still begging for the other men to stop hurting the poor scientist.

"Stop!" Nine screamed at the top of her lungs.

And as if on command, everyone had froze in their positions. The security guard tightly holding onto Nine, had no control over his limbs and immediately dropped her onto the cold hard floor. Even the two security guards had let go of the bloodied scientist and stepped away from the injured man.

Nine shot the two security guards a look of pure rage, channeling all of her pent up anger into corrupting their consciousness. The two guards shared a look of confusion before a rush of pain bubbled up in their insides.

Suddenly, their heads couldn't handle the pressure inflicted by the pain and their heads exploded. Every square inch of the small room was splattered in the sticky crimson red liquid and chunks of brain tissue. The two guards, who were now headless, just abruptly dropped to the tile floor.

Dr Brenner stared at the sight in disbelief. He couldn't believe what he was seeing but one look at the crying girl and he knew this was her doing. Her face was now stained with streaks of crimson red blood and the only occurred when she used her powers to the limit.

The man sickly smiled at the repulsive sight of blood and death in front of him. Nine had done this, she had committed this act of murder. She had exploded their brains. She had the ability to easily kill just by channeling her own consciousness into theirs and overriding their minds to the point of severe self destruction.

She had opened a new door of opportunities and Dr Brenner recognized this. "Great work, Nine. You did well." He complimented.

ย  ย  ย  ย ย  Nina shot up from her bed, gasping for deep breaths and thrashing about in her sheets. The girl forced herself to stay siting up as she tried to catch her depleted breath by dry heaving the excessive air into her lungs.

The force of every breath caused an uncomfortable squeeze to occur in her lungs. Her heart was also suffering from the effects. The blood filled organ was practically pounding against her rib cage, making it feel as if the organ was on the verge of exploding right out of her body.

Every deep breath made her shake more than the last one. Her unpredictability harsh sobbing didn't help her feel any better either. As the overwhelming anxious feeling of crying made her feel even worse than she already did.

Hot tears streamed down her face at a fast rate, mixing with the slight layer of sheen covered her face. It felt as if a deep fever had taken over her body to the point that she felt like a burning furnace.

It was as if she had been hit by a cold but the symptoms were multiplied by ten, causing her to feel like absolute agony. Every ounce of her being had felt physically sick due to the harsh awakening. She had no way to control herself and had no way to stop the symptoms.

The only thing she could do was ride out this horrific attack until it eased up.

Nina's sudden outburst didn't go unnoticed. The harsh sounds of the girl's choked up sobs had made, travelled all the way to Stanley Harrington. The teen boy slept in absolute bliss in his double bed but the echoes of sobbing had accidentally caused him to stir in his sleep. He has

Nina had never planned on waking up her fellow roommate with her crying fit but she also never expected this to ever happen. She really couldn't blame herself for her sudden outburst because it was caused by her nightmares.

Stanley had cracked his eyes open, meeting the pale ceiling. He then gently forced himself to sit up upon hearing the rough sniffling. Due to their sleeping arrangement, he was able to make direct eye contact with the sobbing girl once he had fully sat up. Even in the darkness, he could still make out the hunched figure on the floor.

The sight of Nina crying her eyes out, instantly broke Stanley Harrington's heart. He knew how bad nightmares could be once they began to plague your well-being and feed off your soul as she had suffered from a series of her own.

But Stanley didn't realize how much they hurt until he spotted his own friend suffering from them.

It was a different feeling when it attacked yourself and when it attacked someone you care dearly about. It was as if your entire world had shattered on the spot and he knew he had to do something in order to pick up those broken pieces.

Though the boy didn't have the best track record when giving crying people any sort of comfort, he couldn't stomach the idea of just sitting there and watching the girl walk down the dark path by herself. He decided that he had to do something to help.

Stanley forced herself to stand up, despite his legs wobbling in the process. He then marched over to the crying girl and abruptly plopped down beside her. He gently wrapped both of his arms around Nina's shoulders and began to rub soothing circles on her back.

Nina immediately leaned into the boy's warm embrace as all she wanted in this exact moment was for someone to hold her. It didn't matter who it was but she wanted someone to hold her and tell her that everything was ok.

"It's alright, Nina, it's ok." Stanley tried his best to soothe, running his one hand through the girl's strands of brown hair.

"What was that? What was that?" Nina questioned in total confusion and hysteria.

"You had a nightmare." Stanley pointed out, trying to keep a calm and collected tone. There was no sense of panic in his voice and it didn't even falter. He just replied in a soft voice to sooth Nina's heightened nerves.

Nina said nothing in response and just continued to sob into his chest. The boy just sat there and allowed her to hold onto him for as long as she needed. He could care less if the material of his shirt got wet. The only thing that mattered in this moment was that the girl was alright.

"You're okay, you're okay." Stanley soothed, rubbing gentle circles on her back.

It felt like hours before Nina had felt her tears dried up and she was just left with the uncomfortable feeling in her chest. She was just aggressively hyperventilating at this point but it felt like the only way to rid herself of this ugly cry.

And luckily, it worked like a charm. The girl had awkwardly moved out of Stanley's embrace, sitting up straight on her own. She then sucked in a few good deep breaths as she used the back of her hand to wipe away any remaining tears that still clung to her clammy skin.

"You feeling better?" Stanley pondered, breaking the silence between them.

"I'm ok." Nina weakly nodded. "I just had a horrible dream about something that happened in the past."

"Do you wanna talk about it? I mean, you don't have to but it might make you feel better." Stanley tried his best to assure the sad girl.

"If I talk about it then can we go back to sleep?" Nina looked at him with pleading eyes.

"God, you're spending too much time with Wendy. You're starting to sound like her." Stanley let out a breathy chuckle in realization and that even caused a ghost of a smile to appear on Nina's face.

"So, what happened, Nina? It must of been bad." Stanley pointed out.

"I saw......I saw.....myself." Nina gently spoke, unsure about her own words.

"You saw yourself?" Stanley looked at her in confusion.

"Yeah, I saw myself." Nina awkwardly confirmed. "It was a memory from the lab from when I was a small child. They made me do a lot of bad things there."

"What kind of bad things?" Stanley questioned in an uncertain tone.

"I killed people." Nina outright admitted, knowing it was better to tell the truth.

Stanley's mouth went completely dry at the confession. He never expected that this girl had it in her to actually kill someone. She was afraid of the loud timer on the toaster over for God's sake, hearing that she took the life of someone sounded almost like something out of a horror film.

"You did?" Stanley looked at her with wide eyes.

"I did." Nina solemnly confirmed. "But I didn't want to. I was just afraid of what would happen if I didn't. I never wanted to hurt anyone."

Stanley couldn't help but feel sympathy for the girl in front of him. She never wanted to commit these evil actions but she was just a broken soul that had been taken advantage of by those with sinister intentions. She was not the monster that they made her out to be, she was just a victim.

And he wanted to save Nina Henderson from falling back into the hands of these nightmares that once controlled her life.
