"Before tonight's game, out of respect for last night's tragic events, Sunnyvale will host a candlelight vigil for the victims. All player, cheer and band attendance is mandatory." The PE coach tells the students that are spread through the gym.

Β  Β  Β Β  Bunny and Kate both roll their eyes, looking over at Deena to see her make a finger gun and shooting herself with it, Bunny smiling at her.

Β  Β  Β Β  As Bunny walks onto the bus later, dressed in her cheer attire, Deena walks behind her dressed in her band outfit.

Β  Β  Β  Bunny walks to the back, smiling at Kate as she sits in the empty seat next to her. Deena walks up to the seat and asks, "Can I sit here?"

Β  Β  Β  "I don't know, can you?" Bunny retorts. The two laughing as the memory of how they met appeared in their heads.

Β  Β  Β  "You were so confident, the whole new girl was really working for you through the ninth grade! Well the first few weeks at least." Deena says, sitting next to her.

Β  Β  Β Β  "Yeah! That was me trying to act tough seeing as my mom had just dropped me off at some strangers house and said "he's your dad! He doesn't know you're his daughter...Have fun!" Bunny jokes, although Deena could hear how she was still trying to be strong.

Β  Β  Β  Β  That was a rough time in Bunny's life, and it had hurt her in a way that Deena never wanted her to hurt again.

"I remember when you first told me that. That was the night we had our first sleepover! I told you that your mom was an asshole and she didn't deserve someone has great as you," Deena replies, looking down at the girl as she rested her head Deenas shoulder.

"You did, didn't you? You're always there for me Dee, that's one of the things I love about you," Bunny whispers, slowly beginning to doze off, "can you wake me up when we get there? I'm so tired."

"Of course, Bee," Deena says, watching as the girl drifts off into a state of slumber.

She opens the box she had, taking out the headphones and putting them on her head, adjusting Bunny's head so she could hear the music as she slept.

"This isn't how I wanted to be here tonight. I wanted to be here as a fan. Our Sunnyvale Devils and your Shadyside Witches throwing down some good old American football. Instead I find myself here as a husband, a father, as a neighbor. And, yes, mayor of Sunnyvale." The mayor says as he speaks into the microphone from a podium.

Β  Β  Β Β  "They probably paid him to do this, don't you think Dee-" Bunny cuts herself off, noticing how Deena was no longer paying attention to the speech, instead looking for Sam.

Β  Β  Β Β  "Yeah, really looks like they give a damn. The only Sunnyvalers who came were the ones who had to. The football team and the cheerleaders." Kate says.

Bunny nods her head, noticing how Deenas mood changed and followed her eyesight, landing on Sam.

Except Sam was with some boy. A football player. Bunny raises her eyebrows, not expecting that at all.

Deena pushes past some people, walking away. Bunny watches as she leaves, looking back at Kate, "Do you mind if I-"

"Of course not! It beats standing here watching these people pretend to be sad anyways." Kate says, giving her a smile.

"Thank you!" Bunny says, rushing off to find Deena. She spots her just as she sits down next to her band hat.

Β  Β  Β  Β Β  She walks up to her, sitting next to her and grabbing Deenas hand, "Are you okay?"

Β  Β  Β  Β Β  Deena shakes her head, letting go of Bunny's hand as she opens the box, taking out a mixtape.

Β  Β  Β  Β Β  "Is that...?" Bunny trails off. Deena nods, tears beginning to form in her eyes. She stuffs the mixtape in her pocket, grabbing Bunny's hand again.

Β  Β  Β  Β  She lays her head on Bunny's shoulder, Bunny laying her head on top of hers. They sat like that for a minute or two, before someone came into view.

Β  Β  Β Β  "Sam." Deena says. moving her head off of Bunny's and standing up, Bunny standing to as she hadn't let go of her hand.

Β  Β  Β  Β  Deenas ex girlfriend stood in front of them, and she looked down at their conjoined hands. Sam shrugged it off, knowing how close the two were.

Β  Β  Β  Β  It was silent, and it was awkward. Two things that Bunny didn't like much. She began fiddling with Deenas hand, doing anything to keep her mind off of the fight that was waiting to happen.

Β  Β  Β Β  "I didn't think you were coming. I thought you quit band," Sam said, finally breaking the silence.

Β  Β  Β  Β  "Yeah, I did. Here." Deena says, letting go of Bunny's hand for a quick moment so she wouldn't jerk forwards when she kicked the box towards Sams feet, grabbing her hand again.

"What..." Sam asks confused, bending down to look inside the box, "is this my stuff?"

"Ding ding ding," Deena says, trying to walk away with Bunny.

"Can we talk for a second?" Sam asks from behind the two.

"No." Deena replies.

"You broke up with me! Remember? So stop acting like I'm the bad guy." Sam retorts.

"Yeah, well, I'm not the one who moved to Sunnyvale. Okay, you made the choice. I just made it official." Deena answers, letting go of Bunny's hand.

"My parents got divorced. I didn't have a choice." Sam speaks.

"Oh, come on! You just couldn't wait to start your new fake life with your fake-ass mom!" Deena explains.

"I am half an hour away." Sam says.

"It might as well be the goddamn moon, and you know it." Deena says, Bunny walking over to Deena.

"I don't know anything." Sam replies.

"Yeah. Well, I do. I know you were always too afraid to tell anyone about us. I know that," Deena says, tears forming in her eyes once again, "and I know that douchebag out there was squeezing your ass."

Bunny could sense the fight was coming, and she wanted to leave so bad, only she was scared Deena might do something she would regret if she wasn't there to stop it.

"You broke up with me." Sam says again.

"What's his name?" Deena asks.

"You broke up with me!" Sam yells.

"What's his name, Sam?" Deena yells back, "the dude groping you."

"Stop. Stop!" Sam asks.

"Touching you!" Deena yells.

"Peter! His name is Peter!" Same screams.

Deena nods, Sam speaking, "you don't get it!"

"No, no. I do. There's not much of a future in Shadyside with a lesbo. Best case is what? Dead on the mall floor after a double shift, or maybe, maybe if you're really lucky, you're the one carrying the knife." Deena yells.

Bunny begins to drown them out, memories of her and Heather flooding her mind. The stolen kisses between the two , both new to the liking girls thing, as they were both told it wasn't right.

The nights were Heather would stay at Bunny's house, watching her cry about Deena never seeing her as more than a friend.

And the days she and Heather skipped school, only to go to the mall to eat ice cream and look through the stores.

Β  Β  Β Β  Heather had a girlfriend. She was kind and pure, they were a perfect match. Bunny had met her a month into their relationship, Heather wanting her girlfriend and best friend to get along.

Β  Β  Β Β  Bunny and her clicked, they would practice cheer together, Heather watching and cheering them on.

Β  Β Β  She wondered how she was doing, having called her but receiving no answer. She couldn't begin to fathom how Tammy was feeling.

Β  Β  Β Β  It was one thing to lose your best friend, but an entire other to lose the person you were in love with. Tammy had confided in Bunny and told her that she could never imagine being with someone other than her Heather.

She snaps out of her thoughts when she hears a scream, the three girls running to find a huge fight between the two schools.

"Holy Shit!" Bunny yells, having to dodge a terribly thrown punch by some Sunnyvaler.
