17: Pool invitation

"Hello Mrs. Knight, is Katie here?" I ask with a polite smile.

"Yes, she is. You must be Amber." She grins.

"Yes, how'd you know?"

"Kendall talks about you all the time. Please, come in." She says.

"Thank you." I nod and she shuts the door behind me.

"Katie!" Mrs. Knight calls out and Katie comes swirling out of the slide.

"You're Amber, right?" She asks.

"Yeah, it's nice to meet you Katie." I say, fist bumping her.

"I'll be upstairs." Mrs. Knight says and I nod as she makes her way.

"I'm guessing you're here to talk about Kendall and that new girl?" She asks, hopping off the slide.

"How'd you know that?" I ask, furrowing my eyebrows in confusion.

"I always see you guys together. And he talks about you all the time." She says and I nod.

"So, are you jealous yet?"

"What do you mean?"

"Kendall is only hanging with Lucy to make you jealous. I thought that was pretty obvious." She scoffs.

"Well, I don't think I am." I trail off, fiddling the necklace on my neck.

"Do you like him or not?"

"I think I do. Except when he acts like a jerk." I huff.

Didn't wanna say asshole infront of a nine year old girl.

"Yeah, I've heard about that Jackson guy. If you want to me to destroy him, just say it." She grins.

"Thank you Katie, but I got this." I chuckle.

"Looks like you know what to do then."

"Which is?" I trail off.

"If you didn't like Kendall, who would be your second choice?" She asks.

"All of them are great in their own way but I'd go with James." I shrug.

"Bingo. Are you hanging out with Lucy later?"

"Yeah, she invited me at the pool. Knowing Kendall, he'll probably join too." I roll my eyes.

"Good. Invite James too."

"But why?"

"Since Kendall wants to make you jealous, make him jealous."

"I doubt he will." I scoff.

"He's my big brother. He'll crack. He's very protective. And a little possessive." She states.

"Alright, I guess I can try and see where that goes." I say.

"Thanks Katie." I grin, hugging her.

"Don't mention it." She smiles, showing a tooth missing.

"Thanks for still wearing Kendall's necklace."

"He told you that too?" I trail off, fiddling with it again.

"Like I said, he talks about you all the time! Now, go get your man!" She exclaims and I laugh, shaking my head.

I give one final grin and shut the door, heading to the lobby.

This could go really good or really bad.

I guess I gotta take my best shot.
