Ken Kaneki X Reader

Ghouls and humans were never supposed to mix. Ghouls were on the top of the food chain, they devoured the lives of innocent humans to keep themselves alives, yet why were they to blame? Humans ate other animals yet due to evolution humans were able to have a consciousness and speak, and if cows and that could speak they'd probably try to kill humans like humans did to ghouls.

You let out a small sigh, the chill from the open window made shivers go up your spine yet you didn't want to close it, it was always open if he ever needed it. You moved towards your kitchen placing the mug of black coffee on the table with one of his all time favourite books just beside it. Tying your hair up, you pulled one of the blankets over your shoulders, shuffling to the door you turned the light switch off. You turned around to the window seeking a lurking figure with one red light in the window that made you smile. You heard his feet hit the floorboards, his white hair reflected the moonlight, ghouls and humans were never supposed to mix. For if they did they risked falling for each other like the two of you did.

You watched him move around in the pitch black of the living room towards the table, you heard the sip of the coffee mug before it was placed back down, "You can turn the lights on," You heard his soft voice as you brought your hand up you switch on the lights to see his strong muscular build, his heterochromia eyes with his ghouls eyes still activated. He held the book in his hand before taking a seat on your sofa, he took his eyes away from the cover staring at you and patted a small comfortable spot beside him just for you. You gave him a smile wandering forward, you slowly laid beside him so that your head rested against his shoulder.

He flickered open to the book mark, wrapping one arm around you he began to read, his voice was soft and soothing almost like a warm bubble bath on a stressful day. Your eyes began to feel heavy, and in a moment of closing your eyes you had fallen asleep with your head falling into his lap with a small thud.

Kaneki stopped mid sentence, he gave you a glare with a smirk, he doggy-eared the book before throwing it onto the table. He slowly maneuvered himself so that he didn't wake you up in the process of getting up, he slowly picked you up cradling you gently he shuffled his way to your bedroom, he used his kagune to move the sheets. He placed you down pushing the sheets up to your neck, he began to tuck you in, your eyes flickered and you watched him turn around. Why did he have to leave so early? You didn't want him to go so you grabbed the back of his shirt stopping him in his tracks. "Please, don't go just yet." You muttered, tears began to build up and while he turned around he gave you a sympathetic smile.

"Monsters don't deserve pretty things, pretty things will get hurt by monsters." Kankei recited a small line from his favourite book, you let one tear slip from your eye. "Please just lay beside me and wait till I'm asleep, it will hurt less." You whispered, Kaneki nodded. He slowly crept onto the top of the sheets laying beside you and he held your hand. Kaneki lent forward, kissing your temple he whispered a few words before you fell asleep, "Goodnight my pretty thing."...ย
