Chapter 4

Waking up, you noticed Bruce wasn't beside you. You sighed knowing he was probably working.

You put on a robe and went into the living room, but noticed Bruce moving a table to the side.

"Um, what are you doing?" You asked leaning on the wall, watching as he moved the table.

"Good morning to you too," Bruce said, continuing to move the table.

"Just asking, that's all," you said rolling your eyes. "Sorry, just trying to lay everything out."

He laid out pictures, spray painted on the floor too.

You noticed your fathers name, spray painted in white, pictures with him and another girl around the name.

You walked over to the pictures and bent over to pick one up.

A picture of him and a girl, leaving the Ice burg lounge.

This couldn't be.

So many questions ran through your head.

Was he cheating on your mom at the time? Was that where he was on late nights? Was he business dealing with Penguin or Falcone?

"Who is she?"

Bruce looked over to you, seeing that you found the picture he wished you never saw.

"Annika."

"Oh."

You sat the picture back down on the ground, seeing that there was more pictures of him.

"I always thought he was a good person. A person that would read me stories at night, the one who would take me to his work, but clearly I was wrong," you said, breaking the silence.

"I'm sorry for not telling you. I know I promised to tell you everything about his death case, maybe I just couldn't tell you this," he said giving you a kiss on your head.

"It's okay."

You saw more words in spray paint. 'THE SINS OF MY FATHER?' And another, 'RENEWAL IS A LIE'.

You remembered what your father said about a renewal project.

"If I'm being honest, all of his years as mayor, it wasn't really true," you stated.

"What?" Bruce asked looking at you.

"The renewal project, it wasn't true at all," you confirmed.

He sighed. "I'm going to go look at some files and run some errands. I'll ask Alfred if he can make you some tea."

"Okay, stay safe," you said giving him a kiss.

You went up to his bedroom and showered. After showering, you put on a white blouse with a black tweed skirt and slipped on your black prada loafers.

You grabbed your birkin and your car keys.

You went into the kitchen seeing that Alfred, in time, just finished your tea.

"Thank you Alfred for the tea. I'll be pouring it in a bottle since i'm heading out," you said.

"Oh alright!" He replied pouring it in a bottle for you.

"Thank you," you said. He nodded while smiling.

You grabbed the bottle and went out the sat to get in your car.

You turned on your Range Rover and drove into the city.

You heard your phone ringing and picked up your phone.

You picked up your phone, happy to see who was calling.

"Hey Y/n!"

"Lauren! I haven't talked to you in awhile! How are you?" Lauren was another one of your childhood best friends.

"Good! I have some news! I came into town and wondered if the three of us wanted to hang out like old times!"

You obviously knew who she was talking about. It used to be Ansel, Lauren, and you that hung out every Friday after school.

"Sure! Where at?"

"Lunch at Le Bernardin? Our favorite Italian restaurant?"

"That sounds good. I'll meet you there in 10 minutes."

"Sounds good. I'll tell Ansel. Can't wait to see you both!"

You smiled and hung up.

After driving for 5 minutes, you reached the restaurant and parked.

You grabbed your purse and locked the car and before you could reach the doors, you saw Lauren and Ansel coming towards your way.

"Hey!"

"Lauren I haven't seen you since last year!"

You gave her a welcoming hug and pulled away.

"Shall we go in?" Ansel asked.

"Of course," Lauren said.

They went in and put our name down.

"Right this way," the waiter said and led us to a table.

Ansel came in later to the table, as always, but in a jokingly matter of course, he was late.

The waiter gave you guys menus and you all looked at the menus, deciding what to get.

After you guys finished ordering, you guys decided to talk for a bit, catch up on each other's life's.

"The food was divine," you said, paying for your meal. "I'm glad," the cashier replied.

"Bye!"

"Bye Y/n!"

You smiled and waved and went over to your car.

You unlocked the car, got in, and drove back to the manor.

You parked the car as soon as you arrived and unlocked the door to go in.

You saw Bruce in his usual area he is when he's working.

"I'm Thomas Wayne, and I approve this message."

"What are you watching?" You asked, sitting beside him and setting your purse on the table.

"Something the riddler posted," he sighed.

You nodded.

But a sentence made you listen closely.

"The Waynes, Arkhams, and Collymores, Gotham's founding families. But what is their real legacy?"

Your eyebrows furrowed as you continued to listen to the video.

"Twenty years ago, one reporter set out the dark truth. He found shocking family secrets. How when Martha was just a child, her northern brutally murdered her father, then committed suicide,"

You never knew about this either if you were being honest. I doubt Bruce knew either.

"...and how the Arkhams used their power and money to cover it up. The Collymores, also helped to cover it up. How Martha herself, was in and out of institutions for years, and they didn't want anyone to know."

One thing specifically was something you didn't know. Or many details from that video. You didn't know that your family covered something up, nor did you know that Martha was in and out of institutions.

"Thomas Wayne tried to force this crusading reporter into a hush money agreement to save his mayoral campaign. But when the reporter refused, Wayne turned to longtime secret associate Bradford Collymore, and had him murdered!"

A tear slipped from your eye. You never knew your father could be a murdered. There was no way.

Bruce kept you in a side hug , "If it makes you feel better, I didn't know my father was bad enough to have him murdered," he whispered to you as you guys kept watching the video.

"The Waynes, the Arkhams, and the Collymores, Gotham's legacy of lies and murder."

The riddler laughed historically as he exposed the truth about the three founding families.

"I hope Y/n Collymore and Bruce Wayne are listening. This is your legacy too. And Gotham needs both of you too answer for the sin's of your fathers. Goodbye."
