Two years have passed, and tomorrow is Xiaoting's 20th birthday. Y/n had planned advance for this. A confession.

She and Xiaoting have been spending more time together, and on Y/n's 26th birthday, Xiaoting indirectly told the older about her feelings. Y/n, of course, understood what Xiaoting was saying. "My hearts beats fast around you," Xiaoting said. It gave her hope.

Y/n, on the other hand, never felt that sensation because, first and foremost, her heart no longer beats. The only thing she felt for Xiaoting that confirmed her feelings was attraction. When Xiaoting is around, she knows she is in a safe place and that someone understands her. She also had the impression that she wanted Xiaoting around her more and being overprotective of the girl. She wanted to protect Xiaoting from any harm that may come her way.

"I have to tell you something, tomorrow," she said as they hung out above the massive tree they discovered. "What exactly is it? You can tell me now." Xiaoting noticed her cheeks becoming warm for an unknown reason. Their hands were brushing against each other as they sat beside each other, watching the sunset. Y/n doesn't mind the sunset, though it's a little dim where they're sitting in the tree. "Are you going to leave? " Xiaoting's voice softened. Y/n heard and then vigorously shook her head. "No, I'm not leaving you."

"But are you going to leave me in the future?" " Xiaoting became intrigued. She is aware that Y/n may move to another country or location, as she did previously. Y/n, on the other hand, is puzzled as to why Xiaoting is asking this. "I am, but not now, not while you're still alive," she said quietly the last one in English, a language Xiaoting would never understand.

"What exactly did you say? The last one? " Xiaoting questioned further. Y/n sighed before leaping from tree trunk to tree trunk. Xiaoting was left hanging in the air as she watched the girl climb down the tree. "Is she hiding something from me?" " She wondered to herself. "Y/n! " she yelled. From below, the older woman looked at her and smiled.

"I think we should go! It's getting late! Your father must be worried! " Xiaoting then gave up and followed Y/n back home. She simply cannot wait until tomorrow. She can only hope it's not a bad thing.

The next day came like an eternity to Xiaoting. It was already late at night, and she couldn't sleep. She looked over at her sleeping family, then to the small house across theirs. After months of staying with the family, Y/n constructs her own house so she can't distract their sleep.

The girl wondered if Y/n was still awake because there was a dim light inside. She stood up quietly and crept over to the other house. Then she saw Y/n inside. She was quietly writing something on a piece of parchment. Before she could even knock on the window, Y/n already sensed her. "How come you're still awake?" " She asked, startling Xiaoting.

"I... uh... I can't sleep."

"Why?"

She lied and said "mosquitoes." But the older woman knows her.

"Tell me the truth," she demanded sternly, sending shivers down Xiaoting's spine. "Ting, come on. You can't lie to me," Y/n said as she stood up and opened the door for Xiaoting to enter. "Come in, there could be wolves out there," she said, grabbing Xiaoting's arms. The younger girl was blushing the entire time, but the older couldn't see it because it was dark.

"What exactly are you writing?" She peered into the parchment, but it was all in English.

"Don't change the subject," Y/n said, sitting on her wooden bed. Xiaoting followed, trying to avoid the older girl's gaze. She can't just say she's the reason she's still up, can she?

"I'm not sure, I'm just... awake."

Y/n sighed, still suspecting Xiaoting of dishonesty. "Your birthday is in 2 minutes."

How did she find out? Xiaoting questioned herself.

"Do you want to talk about something while we wait?"

Y/n asked finally shrugging off the earlier topic. Xiaoting nodded her head, smiling. "Yeah... so... It's my birthday soon; can you tell me now what you wanted to tell me for tomorrow?" "Y/n hesitated at first, but as her mind told her that there was only one and a half minutes left, she composed herself and took Xiaoting's hands.

"Fine, since it's late at night and I can easily run away if..." Y/n paused, then chuckled to herself. Xiaoting cocked her brow at the older. "The thing is... I know it's still early for two years, but I like you... no... I love you," Y/n admitted as Xiaoting only stared at her. She was hurt because she received no response, so she let go of Xiaoting's hands. "It's all right if you don't like me ba-"

"50 seconds," Y/n looked at her, puzzled.

"What exactly do you mean?"

"My birthday is in 48 seconds," Y/n checked her own mind clock and she was right.

"So you were counting all along?"

Y/n chuckled, but Xiaoting maintained her expression. Y/n then realized she had been unofficially rejected. She frowned.

"30 seconds," Y/n braced herself for the heavy rejection she would face in just a few seconds.

"20 seconds," she said, her foot uncontrollably tapping on the floor. Her gaze averted from Xiaoting's.

"10 seconds," she teared up, closing her eyes, bracing herself for the big NO from the person she likes.

"5... 4... 3... 2..."

"Just take my life."

Y/n never dared to open her eyes until she felt warm lips on hers. Her eyes opened briefly before closing again as they kissed in sync. Unfortunately, Xiaoting cut the moment short when she brought their foreheads together.

"Happy birthday, my love," Y/n uttered happily.

"Thank you... and I like you too."

They were about to kiss again when they heard the house doors open. A torch was waved in front of them, bringing bright and hot heat to their skin.

"HANDS UP!"

The soldiers have discovered a safe haven.
