Princess in New York

Tony finished his second cup of coffee the minute he heard running. Just one glance was all Pepper needed to see how tired he was of having two teenagers living in the Tower for the week. With a soft smile, she kissed him quickly before going down to her office to get an early start on the paperwork while Tony was left to monitor their teenager. As Peter and Shuri rounded the corner, Tony poured himself a third cup of coffee. He downed it without blinking.

"Hey, Mr. Stark?" Peter asked, scooping some eggs onto his plate. Tony grunted. "We can take the subway to school. Shuri really wants to and I really want to show her!"

Tony shook his head immediately.

"No way!"

Peter and Shuri both frowned.

"That demon train is not fit for a princess."

"Oh please, Stark," Shuri replied, swallowing her bacon. "I can handle a little train."

"I thought the same thing," Tony muttered. He pointed to their food and poured even more coffee as he said, "Finish your food and I'll take you to school. God knows I don't understand why you would rather go to public school than spend the day in the lab."

"It sounds fun!" Shuri replied, finishing her eggs then ending with bacon. "It must be different from school in Wakanda. I want to be able to experience the difference."

Tony scoffed.

"Your choice," he said, picking up his mug as Peter frowned.

"Isn't that your second cup of coffee?" he asked.

Tony took a large gulp then sighed happily.

"Fourth," he corrected. Peter's eyes bulged, but Tony didn't let him comment before saying, "Now hurry up. If you really want the true American public school experience, you need to get there when everyone else gets there and watch me fight people for parking spots."

Shuri looked at him curiously and Peter nodded.

"It's pretty funny to watch," he promised her, smiling conspiratorially.

Shuri grinned and they both finished their breakfast quickly. As they gathered their things, Tony pressed the button for the lift and shouted at them once again.

"Let's go!"

Peter and Shuri raced into the lift and Tony sighed as the doors shut, finishing another cup of coffee while the two excitedly chatted about their upcoming day.

Shuri watched as students passed by her. Some seemed to recognise her, gasping and whispering to their friends as they passed. Bouncing on her toes, Shuri waited impatiently for Peter to gether his books from his locker. She couldn't wait for the day to really begin.

When a large, tan boy walked up to her, staring at her confusedly, she smiled and waved, introducing herself as Shuri of Wakanda, here to visit her friend Peter and experience American high school. Before the kid could respond, Peter closed his locker door and turned to grin at him.

"Hey, Ned!" he said. Pointing his thumb at her, he said, "This is Shuri. We're staying with Mr. Stark for the week."

"Dude, how do you know the princess of Wakanda?" Ned whispered, staring at Shuri with wide eyes.

"Mr. Stark introduced us," Peter said as if it was a regular occurrence. Ned was fairly certain it was. "She's added so many features to Karen and my suit! She's brilliant!"

"Stop it," Shuri said, swatting at Peter and smiling at Ned. "Take me to American school, Spider-Boy."

Peter rolled his eyes and started down the hallway to his first class while Shuri following along eagerly. After a few seconds of hesitating, Ned raced after them as well.

Peter was listening to Shuri and Michelle talk at lunch when Flash made his first appearance of the day.

"So you really do know Tony Stark, huh, Penis?" Flash sneered, sliding into the seat across from him.

"What's it to you, Flash?" Peter asked, taking a bite of the burrito Pepper had packed for him.

Beside him, Shuri had an identical one and he was debating stealing her cookie. She wouldn't know it was missing if she never knew she had it.

"I want you to introduce me and get me an internship too."

Peter scoffed and shook his head.

"No way," he replied, biting into his burrito.

"It wasn't a question," he growled, snatching Peter's burrito.

At the sound of someone clearing their throat, Flash looked up and behind him.

"Are you bothering Peter?" Shuri asked, arms crossed.

Peter frowned. When had she moved from beside him? Could he steal her cookie now?

"Piss off, chick," Flash hissed, turning back to face Peter.

Peter closed his eyes and let out a sigh. Looking back up, he opened his eyes just in time to see Shuri's fist connect with Flash's nose. Around them, the cafeteria went silent except for Flash's shout of pain.

"Fuck off, bitch," he groaned, cupping a hand under his nose as it began to bleed.

Shuri reached for her bracelet and before Peter could tell her to stop, she had turned it into a spear.

"What did you say?" she asked Flash, levelling the spear to his forehead.

Trying to scramble out of the way, Flash squeaked, "I said sorry."

Shuri jabbed her spear at him and he shrieked.

"Sorry! Sorry! I promise to never bother him again, please don't kill me!"

Shuri pulled her spear back, turning it into a bracelet again.

"Leave us," she demanded, glaring down at him.

Flash jumped to his feet and ran out of the cafeteria. When Shuri was sure he was gone, she returned to her seat beside Peter only to receive a look of disappointment instead of joy.

"Too much?" she asked with a grimace.

"The spear was a little extra."

She shrugged. "I thought it was perfect."

Peter and Shuri giggled as they ran down the stairs into the subway. It hadn't taken much for Shuri to convince Peter to skip his last class of the day, especially when she threatened to tell Mr. Stark about Flash. Without further argument, Peter had led her to the nearest station and now they were racing to catch the next train. Just as they jumped on board, the doors shut and they stumbled forward to grab a pole.

At the sight of Shuri's wide eyes, Peter decided they would take the subway all the way to the end of the line then ride it back. They were nearing the end when he finally checked his phone.

"Oh my god!" he laughed, opening his messages. "I forgot to tell Happy we took the subway."

"Is he looking for us?" Shuri asked, tearing her eyes away from where she'd been staring into the dark subway tunnel.

Peter nodded and bit his lip to hold back a laugh.

"What?"

"Mr. Stark called your brother," he said, laughing once again.

Shuri's jaw dropped.

"They're out terrorizing New York trying to find us. Maybe we should head back."

Shuri thought about it then shook her head.

"Or we can explore New York and see how long we can stay out of their reach," she suggested slyly.

In the end, they lasted three whole hours before being trapped by Black Panther and Iron Man, neither of who looked particularly excited about how the afternoon had played out. Peter and Shuri had laughed until Mr. Stark announced Shuri was no longer allowed to go to school with Peter and they were both banned from the subway for the remainder of the week.
