Bad Time to Lose a Badge

Of all the things he could have lost, his badge had to be it. Peter hasn't even noticed until he got to the Tower and searched his backpack for the badge. Unfortunately, it was nowhere to be found and he sighed.

Mr. Stark was going to kill him. He'd already lost it once (thankfully it had only been in the car). At this point, he wouldn't be too surprised if Mr. Stark tattooed a badge on him. That way he wouldn't lose it. As on of five badges with full access to the Tower, it was a bit of a bigger deal than losing a guest badge.

"FRIDAY?" Peter asked at the security gate. "I lost my badge again."

"I shall alert Mr. Stark."

The gate light flashed green and he walked through, trying to convince her that telling Mr. Stark wasn't necessary, he probably just left it at home.

"Mr. Stark asked me to inform him when you came looking for it," FRIDAY told him. Peter frowned. "You left it in the penthouse."

He groaned. Great, Mr. Stark already knew. He was so dead.

Well, at least he hadn't lost it at school where Flash could have easily nicked it.

As Peter made his way to Mr. Stark private lift, he was stopped by someone shouting behind him. "Hey, kid!"

Peter turned around to see an employee jogging towards him. The man came to a stop in front of Peter and frowned.

"Where's your badge?"

Peter glanced at the man's badge to catch his name: Joseph.

"I left it at home," Peter said, not even thinking before calling the Tower home.

"I've heard that one before," Joseph sneered, reaching for Peter's arm and trying to pull him away from the lift.

Peter pulled his arm free. Whether they were SI security guards or just a passerby on the street, Peter was not fond of people grabbing him. Especially when they gave him an uneasy feeling like Joseph.

"I'm going to get it," Peter explained, stepping back towards the lift.

Joseph grabbed Peter's arm again, dragging him towards the exit.

"I'm sure you are," he snickered, leaving Peter to stumble after him. "You're not the only kid that's tried to sneak up to Mr. Stark. Fortunately for him, I take my job here seriously."

Peter could see that much. Joseph was worse than Happy when it came to badges.

"Mr. Stark knows me! Just let me get him and he'll tell you," Peter said, digging his heels into the floor and yanking free of Joseph's hold.

"I'm not stupid," Joseph said, grabbing Peter's arms and trying to wrestle him into coming along.

He grabbed both of Peter's wrists and held them tightly, trapping him in place. Not wanting to use his full strength and hurt the man, Peter couldn't pull away.

"Let me go," Peter cried, pulling free.

He turned and ran, trying to escape only for Joseph to run after him, yelling for him to stop. Calling out to other nearby security guards, an alarm sounded and Peter was hit with the shrill wail of the sirens. He covered his ears, but it was still too much.

"Stop that kid!"

Security guards came at Peter from every direction. With his hands over his ears, Peter couldn't push past them. They jumped on top of him, pinning him to the ground.

At the feeling of weight on top of him, Peter was immediately reminded of being trapped underneath the building the Vulture has collapsed on top of him and began to panic. His senses screamed at him and everything became louder, brighter, and all too much until he could feel the hair on each person's arms around him.

No longer worrying about his strength hurting someone, he pushed people off him in a panic. It was too much. The sirens, the touching, the yelling. He felt like he was drowning and being crushed all at once.

"Hey! Back up!"

Tony ran out of the lift and pushed through the crowd. Shoving the security officers back, he moved between them and Peter protectively.

The officers all backed up in confusion, staring as Tony held his arms out in front of the crying kid.

"FRIDAY, turn off the alarm and activate sensory overload protocol," Tony demanded.

The alarm went silent and Peter could hear everyone's breathing. Even with his hands still over his ears, he could hear every heartbeat in the Tower.

"Mr. Stark, this kid—"

Joseph was interrupted by Mr. Stark furiously waving his hands around in the universal sign for 'shut up'.

"He was trying—"

"Shut up right now," Mr. Stark demanded harshly, his voice quiet.

Joseph stopped talking and Peter heard him gulp.

Turning back to Peter, Mr. Stark refrained from touching him and as softly as he could, he said, "Go upstairs."

The sound grated across Peter's ears, but he didn't flinch at it.

"Okay," he whispered, turning quickly and hurrying into Mr. Stark's private lift.

FRIDAY opened the doors as silently as possible. The lift ascended silently without any music and with FRIDAY's volume at a frequency only Peter could hear.

"Mr. Stark instructed me to inform you of where you can go to calm down your senses."

Peter nodded and when the lift doors opened again, he followed her directions and found himself in a soundproof room. Although the silence was deafening compared to the overload from downstairs, Peter welcomed it.

"Thanks, FRIDAY," he said quietly, settling into a bean bag chair that was proppedd up in the corner.

Back in the lobby, Tony was staring at all the security guards. There were several seconds of tense silence before Tony finally spoke, turning first to address Joseph.

"We have rules here," he reminded him sharply, "Rules that include asking FRIDAY about a guest before attacking them."

"He didn't have a badge—"

Tony cut him off. "He got through FRIDAY." He gave Joseph a dangerous look and said, "You ask FRIDAY before you attack a guest no matter what."

Joseph grumbled incoherently and a few of the other security guards nearby looked away.

Still standing in front of them, Tony considered what to do. Peter was upstairs and likely still panicking, so he didn't want to stay downstairs too much longer. However, firing everyone in his sight would probably leave a bigger nightmare for Pepper than what he wanted.

"You're all suspended," he said shortly. That seemed like a good middle ground. "Get out of my Tower."

Keeping their eyes on the ground, the group all repeated, "Yes, sir."

Tony waited, but they didn't move. "Now!"

The guards stumbled through the security gate and made their way out of the Tower. Tony waited until the last one was through the doors before he turned and entered his private lift.

"FRIDAY? How's Peter?" he asked as the doors slid shut.

"His vitals are returning to normal." That was good to hear. "He should be back to normal within ten minutes."

He could wait ten minutes before comforting his kid. He didn't want to make things worse.

"Let me know when he's ready to come out."

"Of course, boss."
