"My names Finney, Finney Blake."

Finney's POV:

"Thanks for helping clean up my hands." Robin said to me.

"It's no problem! I don't mind." I responded. He was sitting on the bathroom counter while I was bandaging up his hands. I finished wrapping up his hands and moved on to the cut above his lip. I grabbed his chin and tilted his head so I could clean it with an alcohol wipe.

"Tell me if this stings, ok?" I asked him before cleaning the cut with the wipe. He flinched at first but quickly got used to the pain. I kept glancing back and forth between his cut and his eyes. He was staring at me, so every time I looked up at him we would make eye contact.

"Hey Finney, your eyes remind me of how they looked the day we met." Robin said breaking the silence. I didn't know what to say so I just stood there staring at him before he spoke again. "Do you remember that day?" he asked me.

Of course I did. How could I not?

Flashback to the 2nd grade

Finney's POV:

I was walking into my classroom, when I noticed there was someone new in the class. The teacher had told us that a new student was coming to our class, so I wasn't too surprised.

He was wearing a bandana and had tan skin. I figured I should try and keep my distance in case he was one of the popular bullies.

I kept my head down as I walked to my normal seat in the back row. I don't really have any friends so I just sit by myself.

I took my notebook out of my backpack and started mindlessly doodling in it , too busy to notice the new kid approaching me.

"Hello. Is this seat taken?" a voice with a strong accent asked me. I lifted my gaze from my drawing to see the new kid. He was pointing to the desk next to me. At first I was taken aback by the question, before I collected myself and shook my head no.

"Good morning everyone! O'Canada is over so we should be ready to begin our day." the teacher said to the class. There were a few kids putting their bags on their chairs, but they quickly sat down.

"As you all have probally noticed, our new student has arrived! I would like to remind everyone to be kind and treat him kindly. Now that we are settled, Robin, would you like to stand up and tell us three things about yourself?" The teacher said.

Everyone turned around to stare at the new kid, who we had just found out was named Robin. Robin stood up looking uncomfortable from all the stares.

"Ummmm, my name is Robin, I just moved here from Mexico and I have 2 sisters and 3 brothers." Robin said in a thick accent. Some kids in the class started laughing at his accent, earnng scoldings from the teacher. Robin looked embarrassed and never once looked up from his shoes.

"That is excellent Robin! How are you enjoying Canada so far?" the teacher asked him.

"I like it so far, Ma'am." Robin replied looking at the teacher.

"You may sit down now." the teacher told him nicely. Robin looked relieved and sat down instantly after she said that. I looked over at him feeling bad about the kids laughing. He looked like he was about to burst from all the embarrassment.

"Hey um, my names Finney, Finney Blake." I said to him. He looked over at me, and then his embarassment seemed to melt away. Instead it was replaced with a beaming smile.

"It's nice to meet you Finney! Want to be friends?"  he asked excitedly. I looked at him for a minute, processing what he just asked. He could be my first friend! After I registered what he asked, my face lit up.

"Yeah!" I enthusiastically agreed. I turned to face him and we both were just looking each other in the eye and smiling. His dark brown eyes bored into mine.

"Has anyone ever told you, you have really pretty eyes?" he asked me.

That day was the beginning of it all. I didn't realize it back then (even though deep down I knew) but I have been in love with Robin Arellano ever since that day.
