The grinding of the door wakes me. I think I drifted off pretty late, and I don't remember falling asleep. I lie there for a minute, then turn my head to see the huge doors opening. The pale light of dawn casts an almost surreal glow over everything, making the Glade look like something out of a fairy tale. Strange how I remember fairy tales and what something out of one looks like.

I get up, I need some food. Searching through the supply pile I find a box of muesli bars and unwrap one, shoving the wrapper into the pocket of the pants I'm wearing. As an afterthought I check for spare clothing, it would suck if I had to keep wearing the same outfit for days, I'll need to wash eventually.

After a look through all the supplies I notice that there is everything anyone could need. Food, toiletries, clothing, paper, pens, pencils, nails, tools, bags, shoes, even a recipe book. And although everything is standard-issue and definitely made for functionality over fanciness, I can definitely see that living off this stuff is going to be easy.

Today, I decide, I will explore the Glade.

There isn't much to explore, but I wander through the forest for a bit even though it isn't very big. I like it in there, it's cool and dim green, and everything seems muffled.

The animals, I discover, consist of five sheep, two dairy cows, five pigs, and chickens although I couldn't count them because they kept running around. I make a mental note that I'll need to take care of them, though I have no idea how.

Next, I check out the gardens. There are two plots, both covered with a net and full of sprouting seedlings. There are no labels or signs to tell me what the plants are, so I guess I'll just have to wait until they grow find out.

The shack is... small. It has one room with a small table and a picture of a woman dressed in old clothes with a slightly sad expression on her face. It's in black and white. Gently, I run a finger over the sliver frame.

"Who are you?" I whisper in the quiet. Not surprisingly, she doesn't answer. There's a mirror too and I pull a face at myself. I look a bit odd, knotted (Y/H/C) hair down to just below my breasts and slightly dirty (Y/S/C) skin. My clothes are also covered in dirt and bits of grass, and the digital watch that I found on my wrist looks bulky and too big. I dust myself off a bit and run my fingers through my hair.

A sigh of laughter escapes me, who's going to see me in here? I'm the only one.

Out that back of the shack there's a concrete box. It has one bared window and a chair in it, as well as a padlock on the door. That's all.

There's a small toilet too, and a kitchen, but I leave those. I won't be needing them now.

I head back to my pile of supplies and begin putting them away; the flour and sugar and salt in the kitchen, the toiletries in one of cupboards in the shack and so on. I have another muesli bar for lunch then lug the bags of animal feed in the barn. There are tools and weapons too, as well as a ring of two keys. Each is labelled; "slammer," and "weapons room." They seem pretty ominous, but I remember another little building out the back of the shack. I test both keys and discover that this is the weapons room. Why I need a key is confusing, there's only me here. The building with the chair in it and the bared window is the Slammer, I guess it's a kind of time out room. But again, why would I need one?

I put the weapons away in the weapons room and the tools the small shed off the side of the barn.

There are taps too, one near the garden, one near the barn, and one in the kitchen. I guess I've been dumped in the middle of a walled farm with supplies to last about a month and no memory. So weird.

I spend the rest of the day watering the garden, cleaning out after the animals (animals are messy!) and just trying to keep busy.

I notice that the elevator box has gone, leaving a dark hole where it was. I throw a stone down the hole, but I never hear it hit anything.

I'm walking through the forest, collecting wood, when I hear a rustle in the trees. I look up just in time to see a flash of silver through the leaves and a gleam of red. I drop my wood and chase after the flash of silver until I see it scuttle down the trunk of the tree and into the undergrowth. This place just keeps getting weirder.

I decide, when I get back from getting wood, that I will have a fire tonight.

Finding as many reasonable sized stones as I can, I drag them all into the middle of the Glade, close to the shack and close to the box hole. I arrange them in a ring and place my collected wood inside. I'll light it when the doors close.
