Chapter Thirteen

Hello! For the next few chapters we are within Bruce's mind. I hope you enjoy.

Tim's POV

I blink a couple of times as I look at my surroundings. Everything is black and the only light is a couple of feet away. This light is illuminating a simple wooden brown door. Nothing fancy, just a door. I look to my right and I see my brothers staring at the door. "I guess this is Bruce's mind. I don't really know what I was expecting, but I thought it would be more than this," Dick says gesturing at the area. I look at my brothers and then at myself. We are all in our suits and our weapons are in our hands. I tighten my grip on my bow-staff as I walk towards the door. "Wait! Tim! We should stick together. Even though there doesn't seem to be too much danger. Martian Manhunter had difficulty when he was inside Bruce's mind. We may face the same troubles he did," Dick says placing his hand on my shoulder. I nod my head and stop walking. I look over at Jason, who for once isn't making comments on the situation. I take it back, here comes the whole slew of unnecessary comments. Jason begins to speak, "The old man's mind is kinda dull. Even that door is pretty boring. I was expecting fancy lighting and grand staircases. And maybe a trained army of soldiers. This is nothing. I don't understand how the alien even struggled. There's no one here to fight. I guess we won't be needing these weapons. Maybe we can just walk through this door and Bruce's memories will be right there. That would be very nice. Less work for us." I roll my eyes and begin to walk again. Dick follows me and Jason does the same. "You're pretty quiet, replacement. Nothing to say?" Jason says.

I glare at him, "Must you always talk. I would like it if you were to not talk. Especially in a situation as serious as this." Jason glares back at me and he fingers the trigger of his gun. Dick stands between us and gives us both a look. "Don't fight. We have better things to worry about. We can deal with this later. And be ready. The chances of us having to use these weapons are fairly high. I'm sure that when we open this door, all hell is going to break loose," Dick says gripping his escrima sticks. Jason and I divert our attentions to the door. The three of us walk for a bit longer until we finally reach it. Dick places his hand on the handle and opens it. We glance through the doorway and can see a nicer room with velvet curtains. Dick gestures for us to enter. Jason walks through the door and I follow behind him. Dick enters after the two of us, closing the door behind him. The door shuts with a click and begins to fade. It is replaced with a painting of roses. I look at the spot where the door once was and grimace. Dick's gaze meets my own and he shakes his head. There's no going back now. I look around the room we're all in. There is furniture distributed around the room. All of them are red with golden trimmings. Jason whistles as he touches a pillow, "This is what I was expecting. Is this supposed to be a barrier? Cause I don't see any memories." Dick frowns as he walks around the room. I follow looking for any clues. I push back the curtains and frown when all I can see through the window is darkness. "This doesn't make any sense. There isn't any way out of here and there isn't anyone to fight," Jason says. The three of us gather in the center of the room with frowns upon our faces. Suddenly, a door appears on the other side of the room. "Are we supposed to just walk through the door like before?" I ask.

Dick shrugs, "Just be careful. There's no way it's this easy." I nod as I walk towards the door. As I approach it, I reach my hand out. Just as I'm about to place my hand on the door knob, Jason tackles me to the floor. I grumble as I push him off of me, "What the hell? I was about to open the door."

"Yeah, well be thankful I pushed you. Look," Jason says gesturing to the dagger that has embedded itself in the wall behind us. If Jason hadn't knocked me down, that dagger would've been embedded in my head. "Guys...less talking. More focusing on the two angry ladies that want to kill us...." Dick says getting into a fighting stance. I quickly stand up and look at the two people standing in front of the door. Catwoman and Talia Al Ghul. I move next to Dick and Jason does the same. Jason points his guns at the two and I grip my bow-staff tightly. "When will you ever learn? Love is weak. Love is pathetic," Catwoman says in a monotone voice, "Why do you let yourself be exposed to such horrors..." She cracks her whip and slowly approaches us. "He'll never learn. You keep on opening up and trying to find love. In the end, you suffer. You tried with us, but you failed yet again," Talia says pointing her sword at me.

"What the hell are they talking about?" Jason asks.

Dick frowns, "Does it really matter? They're blocking the door. We need to get through. Don't hold back. They aren't the real Selina and Talia. They're just figments of Bruce's mind." I nod my head and Jason does the same. He smirks before firing his gun. He doesn't hesitate to fire at the more lethal spots. Dick attacks Selina while I block Talia's sword. We continue to fight for a while neither of us doing much damage. Dick grunts as Selina's whip connects with his hand. He drops his escrima stick. I look over in worry. This allows Talia to aim a kick towards my gut. I stumble backwards. Talia walks closer to me in order to slice me with her sword. I attempt to block with my bow-staff only to have it kicked out of my hand by Catwoman. "You let love into your life and look at what happens. You end up in pain. Love is pain and nothing else. Why do you love? You shouldn't love," Talia says while approaching me. I take a step back looking around for some help. I see Dick on the floor wincing. Catwoman must have gotten the upper hand when he lost his escrima stick. I couldn't see Jason, it seems as if I'm on my own. Talia points her sword at my neck. I wince waiting for her to cut me. Suddenly, I hear a gun go off and Talia yell out in pain. Her sword is on the floor and her hand is bleeding. Catwoman grips her whip and aims it in the direction of where the gunshot went off. A dagger flies through the air and lands in Catwoman's arm. She winces as she begins to pull it out. I quickly run over to Dick, who is slowly standing up. Jason hurries over to us while reloading his gun. He grabs both of us by the arm and pulls us behind the couch. "We're not making much progress here. You're already injured. Those two aren't going to give up anytime soon. They'll be back to attacking us in a minute. Does anyone of you idiots have a plan?" Jason says.

Dick shakes his head, "I don't think fighting them is going to help. We've been doing this for a while and we're no closer to getting that door open. Maybe we should look at this a bit differently."

"You're right. I mean think about it. Talia and Selina. They would never work together. They've always been against one another because of Bruce. They are both people that had some influence on Bruce's life. They keep on talking about love and it being weak. Is it a possibility that this barrier is here because of Bruce's inability to love?" I say. I hear a whip cracking and the sound of a gun being loaded. Jason mutters curses under his breath. Talia fires her gun and we can see the bullet holes on the wall behind us. "What does that mean? How do we defeat them? Show them some love. Hug them to death," Jason says dryly, "I hate to break it to you, but you would be dead before you even wrap your arms around one of them for a hug."

"Maybe we just prove to them love isn't weak," I say, "Just find a way to show them that love is a good thing."

"That's easier said, than done. I suggest that two of us deal with the crazy ladies while one of us opens the door," Jason says.

Dick nods, "That may be easier. Tim, do you think you can distract Selina while I go for the door?" I nod my head and peak from behind the couch. I scan the room for my bow-staff. I eventually find it right underneath a side table. I rush from behind the couch to where my bow-staff lies. Both of the ladies rush after me. Just as I'm about to reach my bow-staff, Catwoman's whip wraps around my ankle. I struggle to grab my bow-staff as she pulls me closer to her. I am able to enclose my hand around the tip of the staff. As she pulls me towards her, Talia points her gun at me. Just great, I'm in a pretty difficult situation. I need Jason to distract Talia, so I can focus my attentions on Catwoman. I look over to the couch and groan when I hear my older brothers bickering. "Do you have to call me Dickwad? Jay Jay.....I'm your older brother. You should have more respect for me," Dick says.

"Stop calling me Jay Jay and I may stop calling you Dickwad," Jason replies.

Dick sighs, "Fine, deal. You know, Jay Jay is only a term of endearment for my dear younger brother. You shouldn't take any offense to it. It clearly bothers you, though. So, I won't call you that anymore, Little Red Riding Hood."

Jason groans loudly, "I would shoot you in the head, but I don't want to waste my ammo." I grimace as Catwoman tries to slash at my neck. I quickly move away and get back on my feet. I throw a birdarang at her face as I hurry to untie her whip from my ankle. Just as I get it off, Talia begins firing her gun at me. I dodge the bullets and run behind a chair, "Hey! Mind giving me a hand here! I can't fight both of them by myself."

"Hold your horses replacement. Wow, I thought you could've held your own for a little bit longer," Jason states as he fires his gun.

"I'd like to see you fight against them by yourself," I retort, "We'll see how you do and then we can talk about me holding out on my own."

"Less talking. More fighting..." Dick says in a singsong voice from behind the couch.

"Shut up!" Jason and I both exclaim. Catwoman pounces at me and I quickly sidestep. I hit the butt of my bow-staff at her gut and quickly do a swivel kick. She falls to the ground, the wind being knocked out of her. I grab her whip and tie her arms behind her. As I do this, she hits her head into mine. I stumble backwards and shake my head, disorientated. I look to my right and see Jason firing his gun while dodging bullets. He takes a dagger from his coat pocket and throws it a Talia. He backs her into the area where Catwoman is. He turns around and grabs the first thing he can see, which just so happens to be a lamp. He throws it at Talia's head. Talia crumples to the floor and blood runs down her face. Catwoman struggles to get free. Before she can, I walk over and slam the butt of my bow-staff into her temple. She passes out right next to Talia. I take a deep breath and groan as a wave of nausea passes over me. "You alright there, Tim? Selina hit you pretty hard in the head," Jason says approaching me.

"I'm fine. Where's Dick?" I ask ignoring the throbbing pain.

Dick stands in the doorway with a smile on his face, "Waiting for you two to finish off your fight. C'mon, I have a feeling this is only the beginning." Jason and I walk towards the door. We look at one another before walking into the next room.

I hope that you all enjoyed this chapter! I was contemplating whether or not to have the boys just fight it out or just make the enemy accept love. I went with the fight since it seemed a bit cliché to do the latter. Anyhow, if you have any questions please comment. Also please, vote, add this story to your library, and follow me! I'll see you all next time. Bye bye!!!
