Chapter 26

"Peter Hale?" Blake questioned, sitting in the back seat of Stiles' jeep. Stiles looked at Blake from the drivers' seat. "Yeah, Derek's uncle."

"He showed up at the hospital yesterday?"
Stiles nodded.
"And almost killed Derek?"
Stiles nodded.
"And then Derek took Peter's side?"
"Don't forget about the crazy nurse," Stiles added. Blake shook her head in disbelief.

She hadn't told Scott or Stiles about what happened between her and Derek last night. She didn't plan to either. Besides, nothing happened. Derek tried to kiss her, but it didn't happen. She would rather forget about it.

Stiles pulled into an abandoned parking lot. Well, it was abandoned, but right now, Chris Argent and Jackson Whittmore were occupying it.
"What's up?" Stiles greeted once he was beside them. Chris was leaned over the hood of Jackson's car.

"Is everything okay?" Scott questioned, noticing that Jackson's car had broken down.
Chris looked up at Scott. "Hey, Scott. Your friend, here, was having car trouble," Chris answered. "We're just taking a look."
"There's a shop right down the street. I'm sure they have a tow truck."
Stiles nodded. "Yeah. You want a ride?"

Jackson glanced nervously between Chris and Stiles. Chris creeped him out but he didn't want to be seen with Scott or Stiles.

"Hey, come on, Jackson," Stiles sighed. "You're way too pretty to be out here all by yourself."

"Hey, boys," Chris interrupted. "Told you I knew a few things about cars."
The teenagers looked over at Chris and noticed that he had started Jackson's car again. Chris nodded. Goodbye before leaving. Once he was gone, Jackson glared at the two boys who had now gotten out of jeep and left Blake behind.
"What, are you following me, now?" he hissed.

"Yes, you stupid freaking idiot," Scott exclaimed. "You almost gave away everything, right there."
"What are you talking about?"
"He thinks you're the second beta."
"What?"
"He thinks you're me!" Scott yelled, hitting the door of Stiles' jeep. Blake jumped, feeling the movement from inside the jeep.
"Dude, my jeep," Stiles groaned.

"I can hear your heart beating from a mile away - literally! Now he thinks that there's something wrong, and now I have to keep an eye on you so he doesn't kill you too!"

After Scott finished shouting, he connected his fist with Stiles jeep again.

"Okay, how about we step away from Stiles' jeep?" Stiles suggested.
"This is your problem, not mine, okay?" Jackson shrugged. "I didn't say anything, which means you're the one that's gonna get me killed. Okay, this is your fault."

Stiles groaned as Jackson hit his jeep.
"Can we stop hitting my jeep?"

"Please shut up," Blake moaned. "All of you."

All eyes looked at her, forgetting that she was even there. Scott nodded, knowing that they were yelling about nothing.
"When they come after you, I won't be able to protect you. I can't protect anyone," Scott explained, glancing at Stiles.
"Why are you looking at me?"

"You know, now you have to do it. Get me what I want, and I will be fine protecting myself," Jackson insisted.

"No, you won't!" Scott yelled. "Just trust me. All it does is make things worse."
"Oh, yeah, really? You can hear anything you want and run faster than humanly possible. Sounds like a real hardship, McCall."

"Yeah, I can run really fast now," Scott began. "Except half the time, I'm running away from people trying to kill me! And I can hear things like, like my girlfriend telling people that she doesn't trust me anymore right before breaking up with me. I'm not lying to you! It ruins your life."

"It ruined your life. You had all the power in the world, and you didn't know what to do with it. You know what it's actually like? It's like you turned 16 and someone bought you a Porsche when they should have started you out with a nice little Honda. Me? I drive a Porsche."

Blake huffed before getting out of the jeep. "Look, Jackson."

All three boys turned to look at her, waiting to see what she had to say.

"If you don't want our help, that's fine," she shrugged. "But don't come crawling back to us when your life's a total mess and your body's sliced in half."

Jackson's eyes widened, terrified by what she had just said. Would he really be sliced in half?

"Can we go now?" Blake suggested, getting back into Stiles' jeep.

Blake's head shot up from her phone when she heard someone knock on her door. Her mom walked in with two dresses.

"Which dress should I wear tonight?" Melissa asked her daughter. She held up the two dresses; one orange dress and one black dress.

Blake looked at the two dresses before cocking her head to the side. "Where are you going?"

"On a date," Melissa answered with a grin.

Blake raised an eyebrow. "With who?"

"A medical rep that came into the hospital, today. So, which dress."

"The black," Blake replied, pointing to the dress. "Definitely."

"Okay. I've got to get ready," Melissa gasped. "He's going to be here in ten minutes."

"In ten minutes? And you're only getting ready now?" Blake exclaimed. "What about your hair? Your makeup?"

Melissa's eyes widened, knowing that she wouldn't be ready in time. "Oh, I know!"

Melissa pulled her hair down from the ponytail it was in before ruffling it. "There."

"Oh my God," Blake muttered.

"What?" Melissa questioned. "If he's a good enough guy, then he won't care how I look."

Blake sighed. "This is why you've been single all these years."
"That is not true," Melissa argued. Blake raised her hands in defense. "Whatever."

Blake watched as her mom left her room with a big grin on her face. Blake smiled seeing how happy her mom was. Although Melissa moved on from her dad a while ago, this was the first date she would be going on since then. It made Blake happy to see her mom doing something other than her job.

Ten minutes later, Blake heard someone knock on the door.

Blake went to go get it but she saw Scott already halfway down the stairs.

"I'm not ready. I'm not ready. I'm not ready," Melissa McCall mumbled.
"Relax, mom!" Blake exclaimed.
"I can't," she replied, disappearing into her room.
Blake shook her head at how nervous she was.

The door knocked again and Melissa called down to Scott.
"Scott! Get the door!"

However, there was another knock on the door.

"Scott!" Blake yelled, making her way down the stairs. "Open the door!"
She stared at her brother who seemed to be frozen to the spot. Blake walked past her brother and reached for the door handle.

"Blake," Scott warned. Blake ignored her brother and pulled the door open.
On the other side of the door stood a handsome man.

"Hi," Blake greeted. "I'm really sorry, she's taking forever to get ready."
"We're in no hurry," he smiled. "You must be Blake. It's a pleasure to finally meet you."

Blake furrowed her eyebrows. How did he know her name? Maybe her mom talked about her when they met.

"Yeah, I am," she confirmed. "And this is Scott."
Scott remained where he was, sending the man a death glare.
"Blake," he growled. "Go see if mom's ready."

Blake stared at Scott, confused, but she obeyed him. She threw the man one last smile before going to find her mom.

Did anyone else want to see what would happen if Peter and Melissa got together?
