Chapter 17

Blake woke up the next morning feeling like a wreck. For a few seconds, nothing was on her mind. But then everything came rushing into her head. All of the events that happened last night were racing through her brain. She had to sit down for a few minutes to comprehend everything. Was it just a dream or was it actually reality? No, it was definitely real. Blake remembered the police telling her that it was a mountain lion. She was actually starting to believe them.

"Blake, honey," Blake's mom called, opening her bedroom door. "School."
She took a look at Blake and then she sat down next to her.

"You don't have to go, honey," Mrs. McCall offered as she grabbed Blake's hand.

Blake shook her head. As much as I hate school, I'm going."
"You've got twenty minutes," she stated before leaving.

Blake sighed before getting ready for school. She threw on a pair of blue jeans, a white t-shirt and a black jacket along with her white trainers.
She brushed her hair and put it into a side-braid.

After she was ready, she drove to school. Blake went to reach into her pocket but then realized that she had no phone. She groaned before walking into school. The hallways were empty which meant that Blake was late.

She headed straight for her locker. After she got what she needed, she headed for her first class which happened to be with Mr. Harris.
She sighed before opening the door to the classroom. All eyes were on her when she entered.

"Mrs. McCall," Mr. Harris greeted. He didn't seem angry. "Glad you could make it."

Blake looked at him strangely but then took a seat. Why isn't he angry? She was late to class.

Blake sat down at the front of the class because there were only two empty seat and they were both beside each other. She noticed that Jackson wasn't here. Blake glanced over at Stiles who was highlighting his book with a yellow highlighter, although it looked like he was just colouring the whole page.

"Just a friendly reminder," Mr. Harris began. "Parent/teacher conferences are tonight. Students below a C average are required to attend. I won't name you, because the shame and self - disgust should be more than enough punishment. Has anyone seen Scott McCall?"

Blake looked around the room and noticed that Scott wasn't here either. Where was he?

Blake shared a look with Stiles as if asking him where Scott was, he just shrugged.

"Everyone, start reading Chapter Nine. Mr. Stilinski, try putting the highlighter down between paragraphs. It's chemistry, not a coloring book," Harris suggested.

Mr. Harris walked towards Blake.

"Blake, if you don't feel like being here, you can leave whenever you like," Mr. Harris offered. Was he saying this because of what happened last night?

"I'm fine," Blake answered, although the tone of her voice said otherwise.
He nodded and then returned to the class. Just then, the door opened again and Jackson walked in. Blake knew that she looked like a wreck, but trust me, Jackson made her look like an angel.

He didn't say a word. He sat down beside Blake and Mr. Harris approached him, saying something similar to what he told Blake.

After a few minutes of awkward silence, Blake leaned over towards Jackson.
"Are you okay?" she asked, noticing that his skin was really pale.

He just nodded. "What about you, you look pretty shaken up?"

"I've noticed," Blake replied. There was one question that was burning into her mind so she decided to ask it.

"What did you see last night?"

"What do you mean?" Jackson questioned.
"The thing that attacked us," Blake added.

"It was a mountain lion," Jackson answered drily. Blake nodded because sje knew that that was all she was going to get out of him.
"Is Lydia okay?"

"Not from what I can tell," Jackson mumbled. "She didn't even come into school today."
Blake's eyes lit up as she thought of Lydia. Maybe she saw the thing last night. I have to ask her.

Blake hasn't spoken to Lydia a lot so it would seem weird if she showed up at her house to ask her what she saw last night. But Blake know one person who will be willing to do it.

"Can you ask her something?" Blake asked Stiles who was planning on visiting Lydia today after school.

"Yeah, what is it?" Stiles questioned.
"Ask her what she saw last night," Blake answered. "And where is Scott?"
"I have no idea, I'll call him now," Stiles announced, pulling out his phone and dialling Scott's number.

After Scott answered, Stiles put him on speaker.

"What?"

"Finally!" Stiles exclaimed. "Have you been getting any of my texts?"
"Yeah, like all nine million of them."

"Do you have any idea what's going on? Lydia is totally M.I.A., Jackson looks like he's got a time bomb inserted into his face, another random guy's dead, and you have to do something about it," Stiles explained.

"Like what?"

"Something," Stiles answered.
"Okay, I'll deal with it later," Scott declared and then he hung up.
"So where is he?" Blake questioned.

"Uh, that didn't come up," Stiles answered.
Blake rolled her eyes at him.

"You had one job," she mumbled.

"I'm doing one job at a time!" Stiles defended.
"Just go, Stiles," Blake grinned.
After Blake left her books in her locker, she headed home. Her mom was at work, like usual, so she was left alone and really bored. She sat on her desk chair and just swung around.

A few minutes later, she got a video call from Stiles.
"Did you ask her?" Blake asked hopefully.
"Yeah, but I got something even better," Stiles announced.
"Which is?" Blake questioned.
"Lydia has a video of that thing."
"So was it a mountain lion?"
"Definitely not. The thing has huge claws and black fur."
"Do you know what it was?" Blake questioned.

"I don't know, but, it's eyes were red," Stiles announced.
"I don't know of an animal with red eyes," Blake stated.
"Exactly."

Blake sighed before rubbing her forehead. This was all too much for her.

"I've been thinking," Stiles began.

"About?"

"What if my dad and your mom found out what Scott is?"

"Let's just hope they don't," Blake stated.

"But think about it. Would it make things easier? Would we have to keep lying to them? I mean, at some point, all of these lies are going to build up, and then we'll be caught and we'll have to tell them why we lied," Stiles explained. "So eventually we would have to tell them."

"I don't think it's going to turn out that way," Blake argued.

"I sure hope not."

Was Jackson actually caring about Blake?
