Chapter 1

Why are you here like honestly this book sucks turn around now before you cringe

Blake McCall sung quietly to herself as Fall Out Boy blasted through her bedroom.

"Blake!" Scott, Blake's older brother by a few minutes, yelled.

"What?!" She yelled back.

"Turn it down!" Scott shouted from his room next door.

Blake groaned before getting off her bed and turning her music up even louder, ignoring her brother's request. She had to cover her ears for a few seconds to adjust to the loud music.

"Blake!" Scott screamed, although, it was drowned out by the music. Blake grinned before Scott barged into her room.

She turned the music down a bit. "I'm not turning my music off, Scott," Blake explained.

"Did you hear that?" Scott asked curiously.

"Hear what?" Blake asked carelessly, plopping onto her bed.

"Outside. I heard something," Scott answered.

"I don't even know how you heard it when my music was up so loud," Blake replied.

Scott turned off Blake's music before saying, "Stay here."

"Where are you going?" She yelled after her brother. When she got no response, she shouted her brother's name.

She spotted him creeping down the stairs so she decided to follow him. She watched him grab the baseball bat that belonged to Blake when she played baseball.

"Why is my baseball bat here?" Blake exclaimed. Scott jumped as he hadn't realized that the girl was following her.

"I thought I told you to stay inside!" Scott hissed.

"And I thought I told you that I was coming out of the womb first," Blake shrugged. "Some thing's don't happen."

Scott sighed before creeping out on to the front porch.

"What are you even doing?" Blake asked her brother.

"Why do you care?" Scott muttered.

"Because you're carrying around my baseball bat," Blake decided. "The same bat I hit my first home run with."

"Whatever, just be quiet," Scott ordered.

They crept towards the wooden railings. It was dark and quiet. The only thing heard was the creaking of wood as Scott and Blake's feet touched the wooden panels below them.

Both twins screamed as a figure came tumbling down from the roof.

Blake jumped back into her brother's arms as the person screamed too.

"Stiles!" Blake shrieked.

"What the hell are you doing?!" Scott yelled.

Stiles, who was hanging upside down, stopped waving his arms about.
"You weren't answering your phone," Stiles explained. "Why do you have a bat?"

"I thought you were a predator," Scott answered.

"Predator?" Stiles scoffed. "A pred..."

"Why are you here?" Blake questioned.

"Look, I know it's late, but you gotta hear this," Stiles began. "I saw my dad leave 20 minutes ago. Dispatch called, they're bringing in every officer from the Beacon Department, and even state police."

"What? Why?" Blake asked as she furrowed her eyebrows.

"Two joggers found a body in the woods," Stiles answered.

"A body," Blake repeated in disbelief.

Stiles flipped down from the porch and stood on the other side of the railing.

"A dead body?" Scott asked as be moved closer to Stiles.

"No, a body of water," Stiles replied sarcastically. "Yes, dumb-ass, a dead body."

Stiles climbed over the railing and stood in front of the McCall twins.

"You mean like, murdered?"

"Nobody knows yet. Just that it was a girl, probably in her 20's."

"Wait, if they found the body, then what are they looking for?" Blake asked.

"That's the best part," Stiles grinned. "They only found half."

Blake's eyes widened. "What do you mean 'they only found half'?"
Stiles stared at Blake. "I mean that they only found half of the body."

"Who would do that?" Blake asked as a sick feeling began to enter her stomach.

"They don't know that it was a murder yet," Stiles stated.

"How else would it have happened?!" Blake exclaimed.

Stiles rolled his eyes at the oldest McCall twin. "We're going to find the other half of the body."

Blake was hesitant, but less than a minute later she found herself in the back of Stiles' jeep.

-

"This is where they found the body?" Blake asked from the backseat of the jeep that was parked just outside of Beacon Hills Preserve.

Blake loved the woods. But for all she knew, there could be a psychotic murderer still running around in there.

"Yep," Stiles answered.

"We're seriously doing this?" Scott asked; his voice laced with worry.
"You're the one always bitching that nothing ever happens in this town," Stiles responded.
Blake followed the two boys out of the jeep.

"I was trying to get a good night's sleep before practice tomorrow," Scott stated.

Blake scoffed as she stepped over a chain fence. "Why?"
"'Cause sitting on a bench is such a grueling effort," Stiles answered sarcastically.

"No, because I'm playing this year," Scott defended. "In fact, I'm making first line."

"Hey, that's the spirit," Stiles cheered. "Everyone should have a dream, even a pathetically unrealistic one."

"If you make first line," Blake started, turning around to face her twin. "I'll give you a ride anywhere you want, whenever you want."

Scott's eyes lit up and Stiles stared at Blake like she was crazy. Blake smirked. There was no way Scott could make first line.

"Just out of curiosity, which half of the body are we looking for?" Scott questioned.
Blake looked over at Stiles who stopped walking for a few seconds before shrugging.

"Huh. I didn't even think about that."

Blake began to grow nervous. It finally hit her that there was only half of a body out here.

"And, uh, what if whoever killed the body is still out here?"

"Scott," Blake's shaky voice said. "Shut up."

"I didn't think about that either," Stiles answered feeling scared.

Blake glanced around the trees. There could be a killer watching them right now.

Blake pulled her jacket around herself as a shiver ran down her spine.
She ignored they boys' bickering from behind her and she climbed up a pile of dirt.

"I'm glad I wore jeans today and not shorts," Blake thought out loud.
"Trust me, we both are," Stiles grumbled directing the joke towards the youngest McCall.

"I'm gonna pretend that I didn't hear that," Blake said without looking at Stiles.

Blake froze at the sight of flashlights.
"Shit," she cursed as she ducked down behind a tree branch.

Scott and Stiles followed her. Stiles struggled to turn off the torch while Scott fumbled with his inhaler.

"Turn it off!" Blake hissed.
"I'm trying to!" Stiles defended.
Blake peeked out from behind the branch; being careful not to expose herself to the police.

"Wait, come on," Stiles said getting up from his position and rushing closer to the police.

"Stiles!" Blake and Scott hissed in unison.
Blake groaned before following Stiles.
"Come on," she motioned to Scott.

Blake could hear her brother shouting their names but not too loudly otherwise he would be caught.

Blake ignored him as she was too concentrated on the police.
She almost caught up with Stiles but Blake - being Blake - tripped over an imaginary tree root and shrieked as she fell face first into the dirt.
Stiles rushed to help her up before the police found them.

"Hold it right there!"

Blake felt Stiles freeze as the voice of a police officer yelled at them and a flashlight was shone at them. She fell back onto the ground again.
"Thanks for the help, Stiles," Blake grumbled as she brushed the dirt off of her clothes.

Blake looked around for her twin brother and saw him hiding behind a tree.

"Hang on, hang on," a familiar voice said.

Blake let out a breath as Sheriff Stilinski came into view.
"These little delinquents belong to me," Sheriff Stilinski declared.
Blake and Stiles trudged closer to Stiles' dad.

"Dad, how are you doing?" Stiles asked innocently.

Blake looked at Sheriff Stilinski and he did not look happy.
"So, do you listen in to all my phone calls?" Sheriff Stilinski asked, not buying anything Stiles was saying.

"No," Stiles laughed nervously.

His father sent him a look.

"Not the boring ones," Stiles mumbled.
The sheriff nodded before glancing at Blake.

"Now, where's your other partner in in crime?" The sheriff asked.
"Who, Scott?" Stiles asked.

"He said he wanted to get a good night's sleep for practice tomorrow," Blake answered.

"Yeah," Stiles agreed. "It's just us. In the woods. Alone. "

Sheriff Stilinski didn't believe a word that was coming out of the two teenagers' mouths.

"Scott?" He yelled, pointing the flashlight into the woods. "Scott, you out there?"

Blake prayed to herself that just this once, Scott would be smart and not reveal himself.

"Scott?" The sheriff called once more. When he got no response he turned back to Stiles and Blake.

"Well, I'm going to walk you two back to your car," he stated. "And you and I are going to have a conversation about something called invasion of privacy."

Sheriff Stilinski grabbed Stiles by his jacket and started dragging him towards Stiles' car.

"Come on, Blake!" The Sheriff shouted over his shoulder. Blake groaned before trudging behind Stiles and his dad.

Her mom was going to kill her.

What do you think of Blake? What do you think will happen when Blake's mom finds out?
