Prologue

We stand before a great darkness, but remember,

darkness can't exist where light is.

 Let's be that light!

(After Initiation)

Jaune exited his dorm room and walked to a terrace overlooking the school courtyard with much on his mind. He had finally gotten into Beacon his mother Lucia Schwarzer had always hoped he would be able to have the same experiences as she did when she still lived in the Kingdom of Vale. Usually, it would have been impossible since the countries on the continent of Zemuria were cut off from the four kingdoms because the church deemed the land uninhabitable due to the excess of Grimm. She had ended up there when a Leviathan destroyed a hunting expedition and she washed up on the shores of Erebonia and was quickly taken in by the church who after many hours of interrogation gave her a false story to share about being from a now-defunct noble house should anyone ask about her past.

Through trial and error, she could finally contact her former team leader Nicolas Arc and with his help, they made plans in case Jaune wanted to follow in his mother's footsteps. He wondered how his father got him transportation but he simply decided not to look too hard at that, he had already caused so much strain for his parents and sister. He pulled out a special scroll and made a shaky connection to the orbal network thanks to a small receiver in Nicolas's village that was hidden away to contact home.

"Hello, Baron Schwarzer here how may I assist you?" The jovial voice of his father Baron Teo Schwarzer answered.

"Hello, Father. How's mom and Elise?" Jaune asked.

"Ah, Jaune. You know you don't have to be so formal with me. Where's the little boy who used to call me daddy?" Teo chuckled reminiscing about the past.

"Dad." Jaune cringed. "I was a little kid back then."

"Well, you don't have to be so formal. I'm your father, not some stuffy lord. Anyways your mom's doing just fine and Elise misses her big brother and counting down till your first vacation." Teo chided him before answering his first question. "So how's that Beacon place? Is it just like the stories Lucia would tell you?"

Jaune smiled at the question and began a story that he was certain would make Elise march all the way to Vale and drag him back home.

"Well, it sounds like you had an eventful day!" Teo exclaimed. "Already a leader. I'm so proud of you. Though I am concerned." Teo's attitude changed. "I get you're pretending to be Nicolas's son but you really should have brought your own sword or at least used the skills Ka-Fai taught you."

"I don't want to stand out. That sword is too different than the weapons here, even the Arc's sword is an outlier most of the weapons here are melee gun hybrids it's... strange." Jaune argued. "and what skills I'm barely a beginner in the Eight Leaves. Hell, I didn't even know what aura was! I... I think they made a mistake making me a leader."

"Jaune..." Teo started then stopped. "Is this what you really want? You know there are schools over here that you can still enroll at. You know we'd never judge you." His father sounded worried.

"Y-Yeah I'm sure. I'm sorry I guess it was all today's stress getting to me. I want to see how far I can get here 'Maybe I'll find a purpose' and if I can't make it by the end of the first semester I'll come home. Okay?"

"Alright." Teo wouldn't push the matter ever since 'that' day Jaune seemed to be lost, he had hoped that going to the same school his mother did would help Jaune find his way. "So how about you tell me about this team of yours?" For the next half an hour Jaune gave his initial thoughts on his team from Ren's quite calm nature to Nora's more hyperactive personality and Pyrrha's shyness from being a popular athlete here.

(Three weeks later)

"I didn't get in the same way as you or the others," Jaune said leaning on the roof railing as he spoke to his partner Pyrrha after she dragged him to the roof to talk.

"What do you mean Jaune?" Pyrrha asked.

"The Arcs, er my family couldn't afford to send me to combat school so I'm self-taught for the most part, and when the time came for filling out an application My father found a way to get a hold of one with false information and had me sign it," Jaune confessed with the lie that was thought up by his mother and Nicolas. He personally didn't like it but the Islands of Remnant weren't supposed to know about the rest of the world or so the church said.

"Jaune..." Pyrrha was shocked and horrified.

"I'll be going now." Jaune walked past her already making plains. He could tell someone was spying on them so he decided he couldn't hurt his family any more than he already had so he would leave at the soonest moment.

It wasn't even a day until his 'secret' was known by all. Some students saw him as brave but foolhardy while others viewed him as not but a criminal. Jaune had told his team he wasn't feeling well and to go to class and after they left he spent most of his day in his room packing. Once that was done he slug his bag over his shoulder slid Corcea Mors into a sword bag and made his way to the headmaster's office.

(Three and a half years later)

Jaune stretched as he awoke from that memory-filled dream. Once he felt the stiffness of sleep leave his body he walked over to his desk and looked upon all the photos ranging from the Final photo of old Class VII and proto Class VII before graduation to Oliverts wedding but in the center were two he held most dear. The first was a photo that was taken before his trip to Remnant with him and his father Teo Schwarzer while his mother and Elise sat in front. The second picture was of him and Towa and it sat next to the 50 Mira Crow had returned before the Civil War. She had grown a 1.5 Reiges since the picture and was a little over shoulder height to him now but it didn't matter to him next to his family he cared for her the most, and while she wasn't his first girlfriend that was Alisa he could see them settling down together once all the chaos over the end of the Great Twilight had ended. Thinking back to Alisa he couldn't help but sigh, they had gotten together during the Civil War but with the fallout of who his biological father was, the annexation of Crossbell, Alisa starting her new job in Reinford, and the depression he found himself in they didn't last more than six months. At least they were able to stay friends.

"Well enough reminiscing I have a history test to give today. Hopefully, Altina helped Juna study." Jaune grabbed his white jacket and walked out the door to find Towa waiting for him. "Ready for test day?" While the students would be struggling to take the tests they would spend a long night grading them.

"It's not that bad. But before that  Aurelia wants all the instructors to meet in the conference room." Towa looked worried. "There's been rumors of a strange white airship."

"Hopefully it's just rumors, we've been through too much for another war." Jaune sighed.

"So you're suggesting we go visit a land infested with monsters that are drawn in by fear for our honeymoon?" A white-haired woman cocked her eyebrow at a blonde man in an eyepatch.

"We wouldn't be going alone the Golden Rakshasa has already agreed to my suggestion." The blonde man pointed out.

"So originally we were going to go to Crossbell for your training but with those islands making contact the grandmaster wants us to see what all is going down over there okay princey boy?" A scarlet-haired girl explained as she packed her weapon.

"I'm no longer a prince Shirley. Any reason for the sudden change?" A blonde teen asked.

"Supposedly there's some big event happening soon and you're around the right age to disguise yourself as a participant," Shirley explained.
