"Mizuki, it's time to go~"

"God?" They mumbled, sleepily, curling up against the heat wrapping around them.

"Well, if you consider my last name, maybe." The person that was undeniably Rui chuckled as they sat up, groggily rubbing their eyes in an attempt to wake up.

"Ugh..." Mizuki whined, memories of how they'd promised Rui to go to school with him today coming back. "I think I had a really weird dream..."

"Oh, right. Here." To their confusion, Rui handed them a small notebook. "Take a look. You'll believe yourself more than me, fufufu~ Mizuki-kun is so cruel in their judgement, they'd accuse me of gaslighting..."

"If I were to accuse you of gaslighting, it'd probably be for a good reason." Mizuki retorted, squinting their eyes to attempt to read the writing on the first page after just having woken up.

"Well then, you have around ten minutes to finish that and get ready. The clock is ticking~"

"Eh?! Why didn't you wake me up earlier?!"

"Mizuki-chan was sleeping like a princess in my arms, it would have been a shame to disturb their beauty rest." Rui stood up while Mizuki continued their protests, doing absolutely nothing to hide his amusement at their agony. "Well~ I'll be downstairs, be fast."

"Goddamnit, Rui." Mizuki slammed the notebook shut, hearing Rui's responding laughter down the hall.

Despite everything, there was a fond smile on their face.

"RUI!"

"Akito—?" Touya said, trying to follow his partner around the school.

Two things; one, Touya had no clue when Akito and Kamishiro suddenly got on a first name basis, but he assumed it had something to do with that quote-unquote "unwilling sleepover" Akito had been grumbling about.

Two; he also had no clue why Akito was looking for him, and he felt a bit useless simply walking behind him on their search for the purple-haired boy himself.

Fortunately, Rui isn't exactly easy to miss within a crowd, and they found him in one of the hallways pretty quickly.

"Rui!" Akito rushed over towards him. Rui didn't seem to be planning anything evil... at least not yet, so Touya relaxed a bit knowing his partner wouldn't spontaneously combust just by being near him.

"Ah, Shinonome-kun, it's a pleasure to see you again~" Rui greeted, smiling down at Akito in a way that almost seemed condescending, coupled with his tone. There was definitely something going on here that Touya was very much a third wheel to.

If looks could kill, he's sure Rui would be six feet under; the way Akito glared at the other's smirk would have intimidated even the most fearless students.

Unfortunately, Rui wasn't exactly normal, in that sense, so Akito's death glare only seemed to amuse him further.

"Don't fuckin' "Ah, Shinonome-kun!" me." His partner huffed, adding in an impression of Rui's special lilt whenever he pronounced his name in for good measure. Despite everything he was still trying not to be too loud; maybe to not have the other older students around them find out what he was actually like. "You know exactly what's going on."

"Oh, do I? Please enlighten me, my dearest kouhai~"

"Uh, Akito...?" Touya tapped his shoulder. "Class is starting soon..."

"Why are you looking at me like that? Ugh— You— me taking your stuff didn't mean anything, alright?"

Oh.

Oh.

So that's why Akito had been so reluctant to tell him why he had a hoodie that very obviously wasn't his around his waist...

"And yet, you're still carrying it around with you, hm? Perhaps you enjoy this more than you're trying to make others think you do. Ah, poor Aoyagi-kun, being lied to by his dear friend in such a way..." Rui's eyes glinted maliciously, and it reminded him of how he looked whenever he set off explosions during recess. "Are you maybe embarrassed of your natural instinct to show off what you like? Or are you still in denial?"

Akito had the expression of someone whose brain was already halfway through processing the request to throw a punch, so Touya decided to step in before anything happened.

"Akito, we have class..." Touya lightly tugged on his partner's arm, which is what finally caused him to step back and seemingly lose the will to actually do anything now. "I'm sorry, Kamishiro-senpai. I don't know what got into him today..." Touya bowed slightly.

"Don't worry, Aoyagi-kun." Rui smiled, softly at him, but then more teasingly at Akito. "If Shinonome-kun really feels sorry, then he can come tell me as such in recess. Cheers~ I'm going to go find Tsukasa."

As Rui walked away the two were left in silence.

"So, you and Kamishiro-senpai huh?" Touya finally said, turning to look at a very red Akito.

"No! It's— not like that. It's just that— we— god, I'm going to kill him—"

"Hey, hey, save the death threats for later. It was already quite rude of you to go up to our Senpai and act like that."

"You wouldn't understand." Akito shook his head. "I'm going to— fuck."

"Language."

"Shut the fuck up, Touya."

---

The doors to the rooftop swung open full-force behind him, and he smiled to himself, resting one of his hands on his hips.

"Kamishiro." The voice, undeniably Akito, said.

Rui turned around for his eyes to meet his, walking towards Akito. He doubted he would get out alive of having a conversation so close to the fence of the rooftop; the chances of him being thrown off were too high to ignore. "You found me."

"Wasn't particularly hard. No one else bothers to spend time here, other than you and Akiyama." Akito stepped up to him, crossing his arms. "But they're with An, and Touya's with Tenma. Which means..."

"...I must be alone up here. I'm impressed! How smart of you." Rui's bright yellow eyes locked with Akito's olive green, which were narrowed, almost challenging him in a strange, animalistic way. "So, are you going to apologize for being so mean to your senior, Shinonome-kun? Or do I not get the pleasure of dealing with your polite side today?"

"Of course not. You embarrassed me in front of my partner. I'm not goin' to thank you for it or whatever your superiority complex is expecting."

"Superiority complex?" Rui snickered, not expecting that description at all. "That's what you think of me? How rude~ I think, out of the two of us, you're the one who better fits that description. And, if I recall correctly, you're the one who came up to me, not the other way round. You have no one but yourself to blame, Akito-kun~!"

"You talk too much."

"Oh, is that so? And yet, it seems like you like listening. You like listening to me talk, and you like watching me, aswell. Otherwise, you wouldn't have let the weekend happen. You wouldn't have let me in your house, you wouldn't have opened up to me, you wouldn't have let me cook for you. You wouldn't have let me share my things with you." Rui's tone had subconsciously slipped into his... whatever that voice he did was, and he could tell it only served to annoy Akito further. "But you did. And you're still carrying my hoodie, despite everything never offering to give it back. Perhaps you enjoy me."

"Shut up." Akito grumbled, following Rui with his gaze as the older started slowly making his way around him, walking over to the rooftop doors, fully intending to leave Akito in crisis.

"'Oya? But you were so willing to listen to me the other day, I wonder what's changed~" He giggled, opening the doors, holding them open for himself. "Well then, recess is almost over. I can't believe you'd be so mean to your beloved Senpai, Akito-kun."

"..." Rui could practically hear Akito's anger, and he had the time to think, wow, so much for someone who "doesn't care" about what others say just to rile him up, finding the entire situation amusing more than anything.

He thinks he might be a little fucked up if he thought Akito looking like he was seconds away from actually fighting him was funny, but he's way past caring about that sort of stuff at this point.

Then, before he expected it, the doors slammed back shut with the wind somewhere beside him and he was being dragged across the rooftop.

He's way too eager to comply.

If Akito had any weapons on him, he would have stabbed them through Rui's heart five times and then thrown him off the rooftop for good measure.

He barely registers in his mind how incredibly concerning it is he's thinking of extremely graphic ways to kill his (second) annoying upperclassman, but that isn't really the thing he's most worried about at the moment.

He pressed Rui against the nearest wall, trying to not think too hard about how embarrassing their height difference was as he looked up at him. Tossing Rui around was no difficulty, since Akito was really quite strong even if he didn't like to admit it, but he also figured it had to do with the fact Rui wanted Akito to— otherwise he wouldn't have been able to. Rui wasn't weak, in any measure.

"You're sick." Akito said, in response to his own thoughts, causing Rui to laugh underneath him.

"Oh, am I, now? Who's trapping who against a wall during our school recess, here?"

"You're not complaining."

"How could I? You just look so adorable like this~" Akito wanted nothing more than to get rid of that stupid, teasing grin on his senior's face. He huffed.

"I like you more when you're quiet and not causing trouble for me, Senpai." He glared. "You're insane. How can you find this funny?"

"Hm~ Maybe because Shinonome-kun has such interesting reactions~?" Rui gave him a look of immense satisfaction, coupled with his smug cat-like smile. "He's so cute when he's angry..."

"Fuck you." Akito grabbed a hold of Rui's wrists and lifted them over his head (with slight effort), pressing him further into the wall. He's anything but cute. "And shut up."

"Go on. If you want me to be quiet, give me a good reason to."

"Is that an invitation to kiss you or an invitation to punch you in the face?"

"I don't know~ Why don't you surprise me, Akito-kun?"

Oh, surprise him he will.
