28 ~ Letters

. : Sebastian of Havfrue : .

There were letters from his parents on his bed.

Sebastian sat on his bed, looking down at the royal seal on perfect parchment. He knew he should open them, but couldn't stand the thought of the disappointing ink on paper. As far as he knew, his parents were hiding in their white palace by the sea, sheltering themselves from what was truly happening.

Sebastian let out a hiss through his teeth, before picking up the envelope and during his finger under the blue wax seal with the crab on it. He pulled out the paper and unfolded it, instantly recognizing his father's thick scroll.

To Sebastian,

Your mother and I hope this letter finds you well.

I am writing in response to your concern about the kingdom and the war with Neverland.

The kingdom is faring well. The people have no concern for the Tale of Sophie and Agatha, and we are keeping them calm and celebrating. The quarter season celebration is approaching fast and the kingdom is flooded with merchants and performers for the Festival of Lights.

As for Neverland, I'm afraid we've come to a stalemate. The current Pan-- that replaced the one you fought so well-- has managed to keep the soldiers and the pirates confined to the beach. I understand your concern about pulling out of Neverland, although I can't say I understand why you believe that magic is not located on the island. Please let me know why you believe this and I will consider asking General Louis about removing the forces.

Your mother and I are attempting everything we can to pull you out of the school and return you to the kingdom. You shouldn't have to live with the Nevers.

Much love,

King Eric

Ruler of Havfrue, Prince of the Seven Seas, Vanquisher of Magic

Sebastian crumpled the paper and chucked it at the window. The parchment bounced off and down onto the stone floor, staring up at him dejectedly.

"Oh fuck off," He grumbled, kicking the paper under his bed. He had been trying for multiple rounds of letters to convince his father to get off of Neverland. He owed it to Laura, but he wasn't making much movement with the court. His opinion was unpopular, and even he knew his sudden position change didn't make sense.

He needed to get home, but he couldn't do that until the world was back to normal. Sebastian had a place now, as a member of the Council of Magic. Part of him recoiled at the thought.

Sebastian glanced over at the black clock hanging on the wall. He had to start moving. It was dinner soon, and if he didn't get out of there, Tedros and his new gang of Nevers would arrive. Sebastian couldn't take much more of them today.

Sebastian stood, and flattened his bed, turning and pushing the door open. He turned out, only to collide with Kendrick.

The greasy worm grunted. "Watch it,"

Sebastian rolled his eyes, and almost didn't engage, but frowned. "Why are you lurking outside this room?"

"Where is Tedros?"

Sebastian narrowed his eyes. Kendrick had tugged his dark hair back exposing fish-like skin and shallow bones. There was a glint in his rat-like eyes. Sebastian had seen that look before, back when Kendrick began hunting children on Neverland. "What do you want?"

"That is none of your business," Kendrick snapped. "I want to speak to Tedros."

"Tedros isn't here right now," Sebastian hissed back, running his hands over the red uniform he wore. He was bigger, stronger, and smarter than Kendrick. Let the pirate try anything. "Tell me why you need him."

Kendrick scanned him up and down, and Sebastian watched his gaze shift as he came to the same conclusion as Sebastian. The pirate shifted and crossed his arms. "I know where Sophie and Agatha are."

Sebastian swallowed his reaction. Had Laura gotten them to safety? He couldn't let Kendrick know where the girls were.

"Where do you think?"

"My intel has informed me that they were seen in the Flowerground, being hunted by assassins. They almost had the two girls, only to be stopped by a roaring fire. Any idea who that could be?"

So Laura did get them. Sebastian didn't let the relief show on his face. Sophie and Agatha were the best chance they had to return the world to balance, and Laura had gotten to them before the assassins. A tiny voice in his head cheered at the thought that Laura was safe, but he quickly squashed it.

"No idea," Sebastian responded, stepping around Kendrick. He had to send a letter to Laura, and tell her to bring Agatha to the castle so Tedros could see her again.

Kendrick grabbed his bicep, digging sharp fingernails into his arm. "Sebastian, you do realize if you knew something and were hiding it, that would be seen as treason to the cause?"

Sebastian twisted his arm out of Kendrick's grasp. "I don't know anything."

"Well somehow, the Igni found out that the girls were back in the woods and managed to save them," Kendrick spoke. "I wonder how she got that info."

Sebastian swallowed. He had lied in front of the court before, he could handle a weak pirate. "I didn't tell her anything. I haven't seen her for six months and my loyalty is to Tedros. I would check with Nikolas, he is the one who liked the Igni."

Kendrick stepped away, his eyes narrowing. "I will go check with Nikolas if he knows anything."

Sebastian nodded and stepped forwards, moving away from Kendrick. "Do not accuse me of anything without evidence."

"Watch your back, Sebastian. I don't know who you trust anymore, but the Igni is not your friend, and neither are those two girls. Who do you want with you when the world is ending?"

Sebastian didn't know who he wanted with him when the world was ending. A while ago, before she died, he might have said his sister Melody, but now he didn't know. All he knew was that he didn't want Kendrick there.

Sebastian hesitated but continued walking, leaving Kendrick far behind him.

A/N note

Sorry everyone! A bit of a filler chapter today, but we get back into the action in the next chapter with Laura.

Until next time
