A Failure and Lost Hope

Dick sighed as he climbed in through the large two doors to where his master stood, watching Dick's theft over and over again. "Master..." Dick placed the items on the floor and was about to leave when Deathstroke stopped him.

"Wait, come here and bring the collar!" Slade said to the boy who was just to the door. Dick hesitated. "Now Renegade!" Slade yelled, rage in his voice. 'Renegade' sighed and walked up to the man. His master. "So that you can never escape, this collar will make you. Until I install that chip into your system. You are dismissed, but don't think that Wintergreen will be there for you. I have forbidden him to seeing you. He was making you soft and I will not accept people doing things for you!" Dick nodded. His face showed no emotion. He had liked Wintergreen. Will was something that Slade wasn't. He was kind and gentle and yes maybe he did make him soft, but he reminded Dick of Alfred and home. "Now Renegade! I said, you are dismissed!"

Dick nodded and walked out of the room and to his 'sleeping quarters.' "Oh, Bruce! If you never give up on me I won't give up on you!"

Slade's POV

"Oh Bruce! If you never give up on me I won't give up on you!" Renegade said to himself or whoever might be listening. He took off his uniform and that's where it showed all the scars and bruises on his back. Renegade looked over them. "Good, no serious injuries. Except that stupid brand mark on my chest. Huh! That's never going to be fixed!" Dick finally lost his temper and yelled. "Stupid! Stupid! I am so stupid! How could I have let that...that assassin take me? I was trained by the Batman!" The boy paused and looked at the inhibitor collar. He put his face in the palms of his hands. Hope had been lost. "And because of me he's going to waist his time searching for me. The stupid boy who couldn't even defend himself! How could I have not sensed him! Even if I do escape This thing on my chest will always be a reminder. A reminder of my failure!"

I laughed to myself. Good I was making Renegade more doubtful than I ever had been able to before. I looked over the brand Mark I placed on his skin. "A failure!"
