Chapter 1

"Please welcome to the stage, the stars of To the Moon and Back..." I smile as I hear the audience already beginning to make noise, "DWAYNE AND AMERIE JOHNSON!"

I slip my arm through my dads as we walk out from behind the curtains to loud cheers and applause. My dad is obviously used to all of the cheers but this is very new to me so I pause for a moment to look at the audience.

My dad makes a show off pointing at me, redirecting all the attention to me which makes my smile grow wider.

"My beautiful daughter, Amerie." My dad says before he guides me onto the stage where we both greet Jimmy Fallon.

"What an entrance." Jimmy says with a smile, "I don't think the studio has ever been that loud before."

"When you have Amerie Johnson in the room, I can assure you that it is always loud." I respond and everyone lets out a laugh.

"I see that you are just like your father."

I pull a face as I look at my dad. "No, he is just like me."

"That is true." My dad laughs as he adjusts the way he's sitting. "My personality is solely based off everything that my daughter does."

"And that's why I earn forty percent of everything he makes." I wink at the crowd who are lapping it all up.

"Amerie, you just starred in your first ever movie which happens to star your father."

I cut him off, "Actually I would like to believe that he just starred in a movie with me."

Everybody lets out a loud laugh and my dad playfully nudges me.

"That's my kid."

Jimmy lets out another laugh, "To the Moon and Back is going to be released on Friday but I was lucky enough to preview the movie a week ago."

My dad and I nod our heads.

"It is quite literally one of the best movies that I have ever watched and it was everything that I did not expect." He looks at us in awe.

I smile at his words, "That's exactly what we wanted to hear and we're glad that you enjoyed it."

"Without spoiling the movie, can you tell us what it's about?"

My dad clears his throat, "To the Moon and Back is essentially about the end of days and instead of focusing on the catastrophe that is the world, you get to experience the love between a father and his daughter."

"It's a beautiful love story during the end of times with many twists that leave you wanting more." I add. "You get to see my dad in a way that you have never seen before and since this is my first role, you're going to see it all."

We talk about the movie for a couple more minutes before the topic switches to my love for fashion.

"When Amerie was fifteen, she wanted to start buying all these 'trendy' pieces which I knew that she was only going to wear once." I let out a small laugh because he's telling the truth. "I was not about to go into debt for these ridiculous tiny outfits so I told her to get a job."

Jimmy turns to me, "Did you do it?"

"I got a job at our local pizzeria and I stayed there for five months before I started working in retail. Working in retail meant that I got discounts on my outfits." I tap my head with my finger. "That's logic right there."

A few people laugh.

Jimmy looks amused, "How long did you work there for?"

"Experience is really important in the job market so I worked there for a full year before I got a job at Prada. I'm going to be completely honest, I slipped in my dad's name to help me get the job but I did make sure to prove myself for the two years that I was there for..." I cringe as my dad stares down at me.

"You told me that you got the job on our own." He raises a brow at me and I smile at him.

"Love you daddy."

"I adore your relationship." Jimmy cuts in with a laugh. "We don't get to see much of it so seeing it in person is really refreshing."

"After she got her first paycheck at Prada, she tried to drop out of highschool." I shake my head at my dad who just exposed me.

"Oh shiz." I can't help the giggle that escapes my mouth. "With all the money that I saved through discounts, I thought I was rich."

Everyone laughs.

"I was going to quit highschool but I'm so glad that my dad convinced me to stay and graduate. I even went on to study business management at college for three years." Everyone claps and I smile in gratitude.

"Amerie is a genius, she just needed that extra push to get her to the finish line." My dad smiles down at me. "I'm so proud of my little girl and now she's designing clothes for a living."

"What was a big moment for you?" Jimmy asks and I don't even have to think about it.

"A big moment for me was when the retail store that I previously worked for, asked me to work on a limited edition collection which sold out in a matter of hours. I signed a six month contract with them and that was really special to me." I smile as the audience clap.

"I love hearing stories like that." Jimmy smiles as he looks between us. "Just out of curiosity, did you not receive money from your father?"

My dad clears his throat.

"I was still young so my dad basically paid for everything and I did get a monthly allowance. When I was a child, my dad created an account for me that I could not access until I was eighteen." I answer while patting my dad's leg. "When I turned eighteen, I decided not to take money from there as I am going to use that to buy myself a house."

The audience clap once more and my dad gives me a proud smile.

"That's a really good idea." I nod my head. "Are you currently renting or staying with your dad?"

"Amerie currently rents an apartment in Beverly Hills so every now and again, she'll ask for help with the rent." My dad answers for me and we both laugh together. "When I'm out of town, she has free access to the house so she often moves back in when I'm gone"

"Just a disclaimer, I am allowed to move back in full time but I want to be independent. I am constantly meeting new people and I don't find it respectful to bring random people into my family home especially when you don't know their true intentions." I add. "I have had people try to steal from the house or take pictures to sell to magazines."

"That used to really piss me off." My dad comments and I nod my head. "I never blamed my daughter and I had to remind her to be cautious because we... not everybody has the best intentions due to what I do for a living."

"My apartment is pretty normal and I don't really keep anything of value there besides my clothes." I shrug my shoulders. "But once I get this paycheck, I'm going to buy the house next door."

I dramatically pop my lips which makes everyone laugh.

"And that's on what?" I look at my dad and he rolls his eyes as we do the slit throat motion.

"Period."
