Dreams

Bathed in sweat, Emily wakes up with a start.  Another nightmare, she thought to herself.  But it would feel so real.  She could only remember a few pictures.  She flew over Sonea, but had no feeling in her body, nor did it feel like her own.  She had red wings and a strange, smoky taste in her mouth.  She also saw all of Sonea from above.  She had no idea what those dreams meant.

Anyway.  Emily hurried, put on her doublet and trousers, and hurried down the stairs.  Her brother Adelphos, her aunt Elenore and her uncle were already at breakfast.  After a quick glance at the clock, Emily realizes with a start that it was late and she should have been at school for half an hour.  It's actually a privilege to be able to learn something, but she didn't like school.  Her brother no longer had to go to school, he was allowed to work.  Sometimes in the mill on the field in the city and sometimes on the field of their uncle.  Emily quickly grabbed a small piece of bread from the table and ran to the door when her aunt called out to her with a smile on her face, "It's Sunday. You don't have to go to school."  Relieved, Emily went back to the table.  "Couldn't you have told me that earlier?"  She replied in a slightly annoyed tone while sis sat down at the breakfast table."And what do you have planned for today?"  Einar asks when Emily puts a piece of butter on her bread.  "Not very much ."  Replies Emily.  "Maybe I'll go to the market or to the port."  That's not true.  She knew exactly what she wanted to do.  She wanted to go to Lex and listen to his stories for hours again.

After they had finished breakfast, Emily made her way to the city center, where the market was just being set up.  The market, held every Sunday, was always crowded.  You can tell that when you set it up.  But the market was not their goal.  She ran down the street and turned into a small alley.  Only a handful of townspeople knew about the old man, who lived secluded in a small house down the alley.  But Emily was one of them.  She liked spending time with Lex. He was a wise old man and at times Emily felt like Lex had lived forever.  The small room where Lex slept, cooked and spent all his time made her feel at home.  After the death of her father, it had always been difficult for her to adjust to a new home.  She had never met her mother.  Adelphos and Emily had been in many different families until they ended up staying with their father's brother.  While it doesn't really feel like home yet, it was better than the other families they've been to before.  With Lex, however, this feeling was immediately present.  The old man liked hanging out with Emily and the boy liked hanging out with Lex.

At the end of the alley, Emily knocked on a small door.  She was barely taller than herself and she always had to bend down a bit to get into the room.  Lex opened the door with his usual fierce look, but when he caught sight of Emily his expression softened to a small smile.  With a simple wave of his hand, he let Emily enter.
