The Thief of the Night (Natalia Knight, aka Nocturna)

"It... It's too late for me..." Her pale white skin glistened thanks to the shine of the night. She was crying, regret filling her heart as she knew what was about to happen to her. She wanted more time, to be with the boy she had adopted as her son and to create a new life beside the man she had fallen for. She wanted many things from her life, but they were not any closer to her. She was already going to disappear in the darkness of the night, forgotten even by those she held dear to her heart. "Perhaps... Too late for everyone"

She looked up to the skies, seeing the dark crimson hue that surrounded the world. She stood still, atop of Gotham's Observatory, trying to see if she could even find a way to find what was happening. But just as she knew that her end was near, she could also see that it was the end of their world as well. She didn't want to think it was possible, her mind thinking of her adoptive son and the man who stole her heart. She wanted to have a beautiful life besides the two of them, maybe even expand their little family a bit further.

"The end is already near..." Her whispers flew through the wind, reaching into the darkness near her. No matter what she tried, she couldn't find something to help her beloved in his endeavors to save the world. "And coming closer..." She was beginning to accept her fate, even if deep inside she still wanted to be near him one last time. To share with him one last kiss before everything was said and done. To tell him that even with the chemicals the perfume had, she really did love him. Her heart throbbed against her chest, despair all around her body. "No amount of study or research can stop whatever is destroying the sky..."

She dropped her head slightly, her eyes looking at the paleness of her palms. Her hands were trembling, not being able to completely control her fear. She had accepted that she was going to die soon, whether by someone's hand, by the crimson hue that was destroying the sky, or because of the chemicals that made her skin almost white in color. She didn't care how she would die, it was her end either way. She would miss her adoptive son, Jason Todd, but her wishes were that he would have an amazing life besides the one who had stolen her heart. She knew of his identity, her eyes glistening slightly remembering just how he had accepted her.

"Nothing can stop the death of the night..." Her whisper, if possible, was barely audible. Though it wasn't like someone was near her to even try and hear her words. She was all alone in the Observatory, her soul seeking out for the one who could destroy the darkness around her. She really had wanted to escape from the life she lived with her brother, his ways scared her. She had seen him from the common criminal who just wanted money, to a killer with no remorse. She knew that every life was precious, especially when she got the official documents of her adoption to Jason. She really wanted to say her farewells. "Nothing-"

"I have found you, Nocturna" Her eyes widen slightly, a tear falling from her left eye as she recognizes the voice behind her. She didn't know what happened in prison that changed him in such a matter, and she has been there as well. She could say for sure that she never wanted to return to that place ever again, but her adoptive brother seems ecstatic to keep on his criminal ways and end up in prison yet again. She had enough that one time she was there, she didn't need yet another experience in being jailed up.

"Anton..." She turned around, her eyes watching the figure of her adoptive brother. Quickly, however, she shook her head, her mind understanding that he was no longer the brother she loved. Her baby blue eyes looked at the full body suit that he had, her eyes still crying. She then focused on the golden dagger in his hand, a sigh escaping from her lips as she knew what he wanted to do. She still wanted to be near the family that she had chosen for herself, but it seems that fate had other plans for her. To not be able to see them once more before her final moments in this world. "Night-Slayer...It has come..."

"You killed our love-"

"When you started killing people" She interrupted the villain. She could honestly say that she didn't recognize the man that was her brother. She loved him dearly, he was family to her. The last that remained with her in her time as a villainess. But she had changed, and now she had an adoptive son and someone she wanted as a partner in her life. She could feel his anger, the rage that was overruling his thought process. But she knew that her words were ignored by him, that all his mind could think of was to be able to kill her.

"You must pay for it, Nocturna" She hesitated to even utter what she wanted to say. She had already accepted that her death was coming, but thinking of those dear to her made her realize what she really wanted. She wanted a life besides them, to be able to enjoy life besides the ones who she held close to her heart. She narrowed her eyes, looking just how Night-Slayer was walking towards her. She took her golden star earrings, immediately tossing one of them like a shuriken.

"I'm sorry, but I have realized that there are still people who need me" She said, her words striking anger at the villain in front of her. She needed to watch Jason grow, to be able to stay with her beloved until their time together must come to and end. She now wished to die besides the man she loved, shrouded in love and not surrounded by the cold hand of loneliness. She didn't want to die, because it would mean that she was leaving Jason and her beloved stricken in pain. And she could not allow that to happen. "Do not come near me, Anton"

"I'll kill you!" She was about to throw her second earring at the villain, but she tripped. She widened her eyes as she watched the golden dagger shine dangerously. She was about to die, her mind going back to the time where she kissed her beloved and when she received the papers for Jason's adoption. Moments in her life that she would cherish forever. She closed her eyes, awaiting the strike from the golden blade, but nothing came. She opened them slowly, though she immediately opened them wide in shock as soon as she saw her beloved protecting her from the attack. "You... You stole her from me!"

"I did nothing of what you say, Night-Slayer" In front of her was Batman, the one who had stolen her heart and made her gain even the tiniest of color back to her skin. The way her heart pounded erratically against her chest, was making her breath uncontrollably. She was about to die just seconds ago, her hands trembling slightly. Though they were grabbed by the dark blue gauntlets of the Dark Knight, which seemingly calmed her down quite a bit. "Stay here, Natalia... I'll handle Anton"

She couldn't even say anything in response, her eyes carefully watching the man she loves fight against her adoptive brother. She smiled slightly, her eyes completely focused on the man who had captured her heart in his mysterious palms. She got distracted from the fight as soon as she felt her son crashing into her in his Robin suit. She smiled, snaking her arms towards the young boy and captured him in a massive hug. She glanced at the fight, her smile widening as she saw that Batman was dominating the bout against Night-Slayer. She kept watching, fully supportive of her beloved's actions. She would stay by his side, until fate would claim her soul.
