Going down in flames (edited)

~Hawks pov~

The pain was excruciating.

Hawks was rolling around the floor, trying to put off the flames that was climbing higher and higher onto his wings. Shit. What did he get himself into? Grasping the sword-like feather beside him, Hawks ignored the unbearable heat on his back and got back on his feet again.

"You're becoming a nuisance now." Dabi snarled at him.

Hawks looked up, unable to look the villain in the eyes. Just a few days ago, they had finally become great friends. Now, the only thing he could see in those blue orbs were pure hatred.

Dabi's eyes softened for a moment, or at least that's what Hawks thought it was until he got hit in the face by a blue ball of flame. He could feel the heat scorching now, breaking his goggles which resulted in him taking a few steps back. Great. Now he couldn't see properly.

"Dabi calm down. I'm just doing my job" Hawks tried to reason with the villain, which got him another glare.

"Fine, we can do it the hard way if you really want to."

This wasn't how it was suppose to go, he thought. Twice was suppose to be alive. None of this should be happening right now. Hawks could only watch as the scarred villain ran towards him with both hands lit in blue flames, snarling.

"Go burn in hell."

Should he? He was the one that's suppose to be dead. Not Twice. A burning sensation broke his train of thoughts. Hawks blinked, his vision getting worse. He tried to break free of Dabi's grip, quickly plunging the feather into his arm. Their eyes locked just for a moment.

"Oh now you've done it." Dabi gave him a devilish smirk, whipped his hand around Hawks' back, cremating his wings completely. These wings that helped him escape reality. The ones that gave him comfort when no one was there for him. The remaining feathers fell to the ground. So did he.

The flames were all around him now, cutting his only escape route. Twice lay at his feet, bleeding to death. Hawks could feel the bile rising in his throat. He chocked back a sob as he saw the spark leave Twice's eyes. As his senses numbed down, all he could focus on was the dripping crimson liquid hitting the pavement with a small splash. His hands were trembling. God, what had he just done?

Jin had a huge gaping wound on his forehead, with little spurts of blood still oozing out. Hawks had a horrified expression etched on his face when the realization hit him.

"It's all your fault, it's all your fault, it's all your fault."

Hawks whipped head around.

Who said t-that?" Dabi stepped out of the shadows.

"Did you learn your lesson?" he whispered as he bought his hand forward. In his grasp, was Tokoyami, limp in his grip.

"This is what happens when you mess with my family, Keigo."

Hawks sat up in a cold sweat.

The vivid memory of the fight still burned deeply at the back of his mind. Hawks didn't feel safe anymore. He didn't even feel like himself. It was like he lost a piece of who he was. But there was no going back. The way Hawks was lying on the hospital bed confirmed his suspicions. His wings were completely wiped out. Now, in their place were two slits to remind him of what he had done. Who he had killed in cold blood.

"Hawks." Endeavour suddenly burst into the room.

"I'm giving you a months time to get your feathers together before you go back to the hero agency. After that fight, you'll need plenty of rest to get you started again."

Hawks sighed. I deserve this, he thought. He blinked a few times before forcing his signature smirk on his face. "Endeavour-san, so you do care about me." Endeavour rolled his eyes before walking out of the room. "Just make sure not to get into any trouble while you're resting ok? I'm sure I'll see you very soon."

Hawks felt like he was slowly going insane. These past few days at the hospital were boring and bland. This wasn't the worst part. Every time he closed his eyes, all Hawks could see was Dabi's heart-wrenching expression as he sent the signal that destroyed the bond he had tried to build between them. All this trust, gone. Then, Twice would appear dead, at his feet. Hawks shook his head. Dammit. Where was everyone when he needed them the most? Just as he looked up, Mirko bounded in.

"Are you-" she started but Hawks just shook his head.

"I'm fine, Miruko. Don't worry about me."

Mirko shrugged. "I know you are, but patrols these days just aren't the same without you."

Hawks grinned. "Don't worry, you'll probably see me in a few weeks."

Mirko just laughed. "Yeah sure. Welp, I'll check on ya later."

Hawks watched Mirko leave. He sighed. Things were definitely not gonna return back to normal once he was let out of hospital. His wings were burnt, beyond repair. He deserved it though, and if they didn't grow back Hawks honestly couldn't care less. After all, he was the one that took everything away from his friends, the League of villains. Lets just see what happened after he gets out of hospital.

~Dabi's pov~

Everyone was gone. Toga, Shigaraki and Kurogiri was caught. Spinner had disappeared along with Mr Compress and Twice is dead. That stupid fucking hero ruined everything. Just the thought about Hawks made his blood boil. He did not have the right to take everything away from him. Now Dabi just felt like a shell of himself. He could still remember the hurt look Hawks gave him before falling into unconsciousness.

All he needed was time right? He just needed to calm down, and wait for the right time to strike again. Rescue the remaining members of the League, then the base would be full of idiots again. Shigaraki sulking in a corner, Kurogiri wiping down the benches, Toga and Twice-  No. He was dead. They were the closest thing he could call family. To think that he welcomed Hawks in without any precautions. Pathetic. Dabi closed his eyes. A walk sounds good. No killing, no fire, just walking.

Dabi turned the corner and took out a cigarette. He slowly lowered down and crouched down. Finally, some peace. A blue flame danced on his fingertips. He brought it up to the end of the cigarette and inhaled. Sometimes pain reminded him that Dabi was still alive, after all he had gone through.

Sometimes he wished that the world was fair. But reality was harsh. Heroes and villains were just society drawing a line between the wanted and the unwanted. And here he was, thinking that he was already prepared for this kind of things.

Suddenly, he heard a rustling near the end of the alleyway. Dabi groaned. A little more alone-time would be better. But he was the only hope for the League of villains to resemble again, and he wasn't about to get caught by the pro heroes. Dabi slowly walked to the end of the alleyway, making sure not to alert the stranger in the corner. He summoned a blue flame in his hand and kept going forward. As he went further in, Dabi started to notice the fresh trail of blood along the ground. When he finally got to the end, all Dabi could do was stare.

At the end of the alleyway was none other than the number 2 hero, Hawks. Dabi felt his blood run cold. Everything in his mind just went blank and the only thing he could think of was getting revenge. Dabi sneered, and, without thinking, hauled Hawks' limp body from the ground and grabbed him by the neck.

He pinned the frail hero to the wall, and whispered, "You're gonna pay for making us League of Villains suffer like that."
