Chapter 8: The Nature of an Eye

      Eventually, Jonas Cane's mother arrived at the Principal's office. There was a lot of argument after that between Luke Avery's mother and Rosalie Hampton's father's side. On the other hand, Damian's guardian Mr. Grayson was placating and amiable enough to understand both sides of the different parents. Jonas then learned that Mr. Richard Grayson is the first adopted child of Mr. Bruce Wayne. Jonas wondered why Bruce Wayne isn't the one who accompanied Damian here in the principal office. Is he busy with the company?

How strange. But maybe he has just other matters to take care of. Jonas decided to tone down his curiosity for all of the new barrage of information that the Eye had given him. He needs to focus on things one at a time. And make the more important ones his priority.

Meanwhile, he decided to not search for the identity of Damian Wayne's mother and wonders about Damian Wayne being a little killer. Is Damian's father aware of this? Is Mr. Richard Grayson aware of this? Are they, killers too?

Since becoming an Eye Avatar, it was hard to tone down his curiosity about a lot of things. His instinct was telling him to just keep watching, observing, learning, and knowing a lot of matters.

An essence of an eye is to observe and learn. It was within its nature to be passive. And most of all to be a clinical and apathetic observer.

Jonas watched as the parent's and guardians' arguments become more heated. Mr. Richard Grayson's nonconfrontational and calm attitude fell when Luke mother's insulted Mr. Bruce Wayne. His calm mother who has a neutral attitude earlier was now angry when Mr. Hampton implied that Jonas was a psychopath. Then he dared to demand a lot of money from his mother as compensation.

The Principal was trying hard to have all of the sides calm down but he was also tired of their stubborn attitudes. Jonas would have kept watching the situation if he didn't notice both Luke's and Rosalie's behavior.

Rosalie was now crying again. Unlike earlier when she express herself loudly, this time she was trying to keep her cry to herself. She was crying and sniffling silently. Wiping the tears in her eyes.

Luke has his head down as he clenched his fist. It was shaking.

[ Luke Avery was afraid that he would be locked up again in the punishment box because he was a bad boy again. He wondered if his mother would tell the servants to withhold food again from him later ]

[ Rosalie Hampton is a disappointment to his father. She has troubled him again. Rosalie Hampton felt guilty for burdening her father. At the same time, she was also afraid that her father would be drunk again and the pain that comes from his violent outburst. ]

Oh... Children are truly a good resource for fear. They are afraid of a lot of things. And Jonas discovered that Lonely is cold and bitter, Corruption is acidic, Dark is plain yet a little salty, and Buried is salty-sweet.

A different and wonderful flavors. Jonas felt full for the first time yet he wanted more of these flavors.

But...

Jonas then left his seat and walk toward Rosalie ignoring the parents who were arguing.

He was now feeling full today for the first time.

He decided to stop eating even though he wanted to eat and collect more fear despite being full.

He decided to ignore his instinct to just keep watching and observing.

Damian tuned out the heated argument and stared with a dull expression. It disappeared when he notices Jonas's actions and his eyes are observing him.

Jonas was now in discomfort under the scrutiny. But even though he was uncomfortable, he still decided to pat Rosalie on her head.

The quiet sniffles then stopped when she noticed Jonas patting her head. She then stared at him and Jonas made sure to give her a warm and comforting smile.

" Uttu was a nice friend. I'm sorry for her jumping on you earlier. "

He then took out the box that held Uttu.

" Do you want to look at her, I promise that she was docile. It was fine if you don't want to look at her. "

Jonas then waited for Rosalie's answer patiently. Rosalie then nodded her head and Jonas opened the box. The little girl then stared at the spider who was just walking slowly on her impromptu makeshift budget habitat.

Jonas smiled a little when she noticed that Rosalie have calmed down.

" Can I touch her? "

He was then surprised when she asked him. A wide smile broke on his face under her question.

" Yes. "

Jonas then assisted Rosalie in placing Uttu on her palm. Rosalie then watched Uttu just staying still on her palm for a few minutes before she smiled there are little tears in her eyes as she passed Uttu back to Jonas.

" Thanks. I can't believe I panicked and was afraid of a harmless Spider.  "

Jonas frowned.

" Well, she is technically not harmless. Uttu would bite you if she was really angry and it hurts like a bee sting Uttu isn't suitable for people with allergic reactions. "

" I know that I'm not allergic. "

Rosalie piped up.

" That's good. "

Jonas then patted her head again. While patting her head, it came to his attention that the Principal's office are a little quiet.

The parents who were arguing earlier are now staring at him. And there was a fond look directed to him by his mother.

Jonas enjoyed observing and watching people. But it was the opposite when he was the one under scrutiny. He then keeps Uttu again inside the box. Nonetheless despite the unwanted attention, he found it a little convenient. He then approached Luke's mother and asked.

" Can Luke have a sleepover in our Manor, Mrs. Avery? I would also want to invite Avery in joining me in buying toys later after school. Can we have a sleepover, please? "

Both Luke and his mother were surprised by the question. Jonas then stared at her and tried to have that infamous puppy look but failed miserably.

He still looks like a creepy kid.

Mrs. Avery looks hesitant. Normally, she would reject it. But under the other parent's attention and the principal, she sighed and agreed.

" Thank you, Mrs. Avery. "

Jonas's grin couldn't be wider when he have given her his smile.

[ Mrs. Avery is a woman who keeps the importance in her face and reputation ]

She has no choice but to relent.

Out of the fearful flavors that he has tasted until now, Jonas favored the warm and delicious soup of the eye.

He can't wait to uncover all of the dirty secrets that all people have and have it revealed to the world. Jonas then lowered his head and smiled. His hair was blocking out his eyes. Unknown to him, it shone briefly for a moment, and the one who happened to see it was Damian who just happen to see it because his seat was at the right angle and position. Though there was Rosalie who only thought it was an illusion.

Eventually, it was agreed that his mother would hire a child psychologist in case Rosalie would start developing Arachnophobia. Then Damian, Luke, and Jonas would serve a 1 week of detention starting tomorrow.

Jonas thought it was ridiculous since he was only watching. He hasn't gotten into the fistfight (in Damian's case it was attempting to Murder Luke). It was just because of Uttu that he have gotten involve by trying to retrieve his pet spider.

Yet, he didn't insist that he was innocent and had done nothing wrong since he was planning on showing Uttu to his classmates and frightening all of them.

It's a pity that the little killer wasn't afraid of Uttu.

But as the parents and guardians left the principal's office and the four of them were returned to their classrooms, Jonas stared at the silent and apathetic little killer.

Damian is a very good actor.
