Chapter 31: Duck Shenanigans (Part 2)

   
        Jonas was sitting in a soft and comfortable spinning chair. His hands was at the back of the chair tied up. There were 3 pairs of eyes staring at him. All of those belongs to the Vigilantes.

Good news, Jonas wasn't in some sort of Illegal lab where they would experiment of him and his meta human like abilities. Bad news, he was in the Batcave.

After screaming, Nightwing calmed down and immediately subdued him. He then brought carried him and tired him up on a chair.

Along with Nightwing, there was Robin and the Stabby child staring at him. Robin then walk towards him and brought some sort of strange looking device on his body.

" 15°c or 59 ° F is his body temperature. "

Oh, it was a thermometer. Why make it look cool when it was just a thermometer.

" It wasn't showing any signs of going up or down. "

Robin continued and muttered his name.

" Jonas Cane. "

" Yes? "

Even with the domino mask covering his face, Robin was probably narrowing his eyes at him.

" You're not Jonas Cane. "

This is an interrogation.. Jonas doesn't like this. Jonas then replied.

" I am Jonas. "

Since he doesn't know his original and identity. He could only latch on Jonas as his new identity.

" According to your files, you are suffering from a severe case of Retrogade amnesia. "

" That's true. "

There wasn't any memories left from the original Jonas body. The only thing that he have was something that he gained from the fear gas. And it was also the same case for him. He was missing most of his previous memories.

Nightwing then approached him with a stethoscope. He put on ear tips of the stethoscope to his ears brought the drum to Jonas left chest. He listened for a minute before saying

" He has a heartbeat of 27 per minute. "

Jonas squirmed on his seat. There, another proof that he wasn't human. He was okay with people discovering that he wasn't human with Marionette Henchman. He was also fine with scaring little kids and the servants at the Cane Manor. What he wasn't fine is his parents and respected adult figures finding something wrong with him. Lowering his head, he avoided to look at the Vigilantes.

[ The Eye is disappointed. ]

[ The Archivist should record. Always look and watch at everything. ]

" Are you a human? "

Nightwing asked and Jonas didn't reply.

" It's alright, if you aren't human. Even if you are a ghost or a demon. "

Nightwing softened his voice as if he was comforting a lost and scared child.

[ The Web says gentle humans can also be deceptive ]

After a few moments, comforted that his dread gods are watching over him, Jonas replied.

" Not a demon.. "

" Then.."

" Not a ghost either. I'm not also a zombie which you have accused me earlier Mr. Nightwing. Can I go home and see my parents? You probably wouldn't believe me but I have no intentions of harming anyone other than scaring them. "

Robin replied at him.

" Scaring little kids would led to them being traumatized. It would affect their whole lives. "

" Then, how was I supposed to eat? "

There was a little frustration from his voice when he asked that question.

" Pardon? "

Robin and the other vigilantes look at him with surprise.

" So, that's why you are always scaring them.. "

Jonas ignore the soft murmur from the Stabby child. He then added.

" Also.. I am not scaring them much anymore. They got used to it. "

Jonas said those words cheerfully.

" They got used to it. "

Robin parroted with an edge to his tone. Before Robin could say something, the stabby child interrupted.

" Cease your mouth shut, Robin. "

Jonas stared at the stabby child with surprise.

" With Frequent interaction with Jonas Cane, his classmates at first was scared but soon they have developed immunity at what they called his 'creepy shenanigans'. It's a good thing that those children aren't so easily scared. "

So it's true that his classmates has got used to him huh.. Should be happy or should he be offended? Should he up his creepiness? But with the Vigilantes... Jonas should avoid in scaring children anymore.

" Of course you would agree with the creepy demon child, demon brat. But you should remember that you and those children are different. You were conditioned since you are born to a lot of things. They weren't. They were just normal children. "

" Nothing is normal in Gotham. "

Before it devolved further, Nightwing interrupted the two younger vigilantes.

" Robin, Little D. "

Little D?

A burst of chuckle suddenly came out of Jonas. He even surprised himself with his outburst before it turned into a loud laugh.

" Care to elaborate what you find amusing Cane? "

The stabby child said. He was probably glaring behind his domino mask. With a wide grin on his face, Jonas replied. It was like a lot of weight was lifted off from his shoulders. He feel so light and not burdened.

" I now know why you didn't tell me your identity earlier at the cinema, Stabby Child. "

" Pff...Stabbyy Child? "

There was an amusement in Robin's voice. Stabby child or Little D glance at Robin before returning to glare at Jonas.

" Little D is your vigilante name. "

" It's not. "

" What does the D stands for? "

Jonas notice that Stabby child was still holding his sword, Katana. But it didn't stop the grin from growing a little wider.

" If you didn't stop Cane, you would found out that what you have call me has some truth in it. "

With a shit eating on his face, he asked.

" Dung Beetle? "

" That's Blue Beetle's forte. "

Nightwing said cheerfully.

" Douc? "

" What's that? "

Nightwing asked.

" A monkey. Little D wasn't also Donkey or a Dolphin. Aquatic animal themes are for those who have water super powers and live in ocean someone like Aquaman and Aqualad. Discus is a fish..so Aquaman.. Dingoes are dogs.. And you do not belong to Darwin and whatever animal he has. How about Death Adder? It sounds so cool and ominous. But I specially like Dragonfish, they look so cool and terrifying. Large heads, broad jaws and terrifying sharp teeth! Unfortunately, they are also an aquatic animal. Do you have any water powers? "

" He doesn't. "

Robin told him. Crinkling his eyes before opening them again and staring at Little D, Jonas then said.

" Batman.. Nightwing, Robin, Batgirl, Batwoman.. so..It's Bats and Birds themes... "

There was a smile creeping up in Nightwing and Robin.

" It can't be bats. It can only be the bird. There's only one bird theme animal that I know in letter D. "

The Katana are already out if it's sheath.

" Little Duck. "
