Chapter 3: A soup of fear

     Cane Manor is the residence where the current generation of the Cane family is located. It was located in Bristol Township where many rich and influential residents are living. Including the affluent Bruce Wayne who was known for being the leader of Wayne Enterprises. The top business group of Gotham. One of the most influential in the world despite its leader acting like an idiot and playboy who has too many flings and can't keep his pants to himself. (According to Jonas Cane's mother)

But before Jonas was returned to the Cane Manor, he was then accompanied to a private hospital in Gotham by his mother and father.

" It's a miracle, that your son is still alive at this point Madam and Sir! Hmmm... Fascinating.. "

It was then concluded by the Doctor who checked his condition that he have awakened his ability as a meta. He was now a meta-human according to the doctor— humans that possess superpowers.

The doctor then made his parents promise to return him soon to the hospital so the doctor can see for himself Jonas's situation and make sure that Jonas was okay and if he would develop any abilities aside from his healing and ability to don't blink anymore.

Jonas felt a little saddened by the fact that the doctor appears to not be bothered by his not blinking. He appears not uncomfortable. Instead, the doctor was just merely interested in him and his Eye Patron informed him that the Doctor wished to study him and his ability.

It's a pity. And Jonas also needs to keep an eye on the Doctor's behavior every time he would visit the hospital with his parents.

When the Cane finally returned home, Jonas Cane can feel an appreciation for his new home. It was a delightful surprise to know that his new parents are rich people.

After appreciating his new home, he decided to take a bath and change into new clothes. While he was bathing, he notice that the wounds became like a 3-week scar compared to before there may a possibility of bleeding.

Thank the Eye Patron that it was thoughtful of the entity to help him with his injury.

After taking a bath, it was now time for Jonas to sleep in his room in his pajamas which was pointed out by his mother. 3:00 in the morning isn't exactly a time for a normal child to be awake. But for some reason, Jonas couldn't sleep.

He was hungry.

Eventually, he decided to left the room and walk around the manor until he walk towards the direction of the kitchens. He saw the kitchen with its light on and open, so there must be someone there. (A eccentric thought since he was supposed to think about food, not the person available in the kitchen )

Stepping in front of the door of the kitchen, Jonas stared at the 3 maids that were cleaning and preparing for the new day. He stands idly at the front of the door watching the maids do their business.

Eventually, one of the maids notices him standing at the door and staring at them still.

" Oh my God Young Master Jonas! You scared me! How long have you been there? Do you need something? I'm glad that you have finally returned. Shouldn't you be sleeping? Are you hungry perhaps? "

Jonas nodded his head as he smelled something fragrant from the kitchen. A soup perhaps? He wanted to take a sip of a warm soup.

" So what do you want to eat young master Jonas? "

" A soup? "

" I see, so you just want to warm your stomach. Please wait a moment. "

The maid then asked her fellow servants while Jonas stand there and stared at them which one of the maids notice looking uncomfortable.

" Young master Jonas, it would take a while for the soup to be made. How about you return to your room and we can deliver it to you? "

" I'm fine being here. "

" Do you want to sit in a chair? "

Jonas shook his head. The maid bit her lip while looking uncomfortable.

" I see. Then I would continue my work. If the young master is tired of standing, the young master can just take a seat and wait for us until your soup is ready. "

While the maids work and Jonas watched them and now they are aware of his presence, their body movements are a bit stiff.

[ The maids are uncomfortable with your presence. They are anxious and worried. Afraid that young master Jonas would tattle to his parents on his whims and have the maids fired from their job. ]

Oh. Looks like the former Jonas is a spoiled child. A bratty kid.

Despite knowing that they were uncomfortable with his presence, Jonas remained standing still and watched the 3 maids work in the kitchen.

Eventually, the soup was ready and was given to him by one of the maids.

" Thank you. "

A slight smile formed on Jonas's face and then he took a sip of the soup. It's warm and delicious. After he finishes sipping the soup, he returned to the bowl to the maid.

" I should return to my room now and sleep. "

" Yes, please do that young master. Enjoy your dreams. "

The 3 maids were relieved when Jonas left the kitchen. One of them collapsed in the chair and sighed in relief and started crying. It was unknown to Jonas as the eye didn't inform him.

The only thing that he knows is that he already feels a little satiated. It was like consuming a little bowl of warm soup. Warm and delicious. But it was before the said soup was handed to him.

When he had taken a sip of the soup handed to him by one of the maids, Jonas was satisfied that the soup was warm and delicious. But then, he felt nothing when he consumed the soup.

It didn't satiate his appetite. Even a little.

Returning to his room Jonas lay down on his bed and close his eyes. Apparently what happened to the Gotham City Police Headquarters isn't an illusion.

Normal food wouldn't able to satiate his appetite. Fear from the other people on the other hand– Jonas can consume them and satiate his appetite.

He wasn't a human anymore.

But then, was he a human in the first place? Who knows... The former him who has all his memories can be the only one to answer that question.

Eventually, Jonas fell asleep and woke up to the same day.
