* * *

It was like something out of a nightmare.

You woke from a late afternoon nap, body feeling like it was trapped in an oven underneath your covers. With your eyes still closed you kicked them off, hoping to be greeted with the coolness of your bedroom but instead not getting any kind of relief.

Finally, you let your eyes open. You looked around, your room looking as it did before you went to sleep last night. However, slipping through the cracks of your curtains was a deep shade of red.

Curiously you hopped out of your bed, shuffling over to the window and drawing back the curtain while letting the red glow light up your room. Your eyes widened at the sight of the world around your house.

Things were on fire; houses burnt down to rubble, trees and shrubbery and grass smouldering. You looked up into the sky, and suddenly things started to make sense. The sun was close, too close, to the earth and producing an unbearable heat, setting the things alight.

Suddenly, your phone was vibrating from your bedside table. You rushed over to it, noticing that it was Isaac sending you a text. Another text.

You had eight missed calls from him and countless texts.

You hurried to call him back, desperate to know what was going on. Whilst the phone was ringing, you made your way out of your bedroom to look for your parents.

"(Y/n)," Isaac rushed out as soon as he picked up, a sigh leaving his lips. "I was so worried. Are you okay?"

"I'm fine," You murmured as you peered into your parents' bedroom, only to find it empty. "Are you okay?"

"Yeah," Isaac mumbled. "I just... What the hell is going on?"

"The sun," You said, making your way into the lounge room. "It's gotten really close. It's destroying the earth."

The lounge room was empty. The kitchen was empty. There was no sign of your parents anywhere, and that's when you began to really worry. Isaac was mumbling nonsense on the other end of the phone, sounds of him closing doors occasionally accompanying his mumbles.

"I can't find my parents," You whispered.

"My neighbours are missing." Isaac added.

You frowned, walking over to the front door and tugging it open. A waft of hot air hit you in the face as you stepped outside. The streets were empty, no sign of your neighbours either.

"So are mine," You breathed out, terrified. "W-Where has everyone gone? Why is it just us?"

"I dunno," Isaac muttered. "Just stay put, okay? I'm coming over."

"Be careful." You told him, then the line went dead.

You made your way back inside, shutting and locking the door behind you. You shuffled into the lounge room, collapsing down onto the couch while letting out a sigh.

Not even five minutes later there was a sudden knock at your door, Isaac calling your name from the other side. You hurried over, desperate to see something other than burning buildings. As soon as the door was open Isaac was rushing in, engulfing you in a hug.

"I'm so scared," You admitted. "Is everyone dead? Are my parents dead?"

Isaac pulled back slightly, head shaking, "No. They aren't dead, okay? T-There out there somewhere."

"Then we have to go out and look!" You decided, going to push past Isaac but he grabbed you.

"Are you kidding? It's too hot, (Y/n), you'll be dead in no time if you stay out there for too long."

"Well what do you expect me to do? Stand around and hope that they aren't dead?"

Isaac slipped his hand into yours, pulling you away from the door so he could close it. He led you over to the couch, sitting the two of you down, "We can go out tomorrow, okay? First thing in the morning. It's too late to go out now, it'll be dark soon."

You sighed, unsatisfied but agreeing to his words. You nodded at him, and he smiled at you.

For the rest of the night the two of you discovered that the power was down, so you had to settle for old board games you hadn't used in a long while to keep Isaac and yourself occupied until you got tired.

Once you both got bored of Monopoly, you decided it was a good time to head to bed. You dragged Isaac upstairs, the two of you settling in your bed. You took one last look at the bright red sun out of your window before you finally closed your eyes, wishing desperately that this whole thing was just a silly dream.

* * *

You woke the next morning to Isaac calling your name from across the room. You squinted at him, eyebrows furrowed.

"What?" You mumbled, still half asleep.

"Look." He said, and you let out a sigh.

You sat up, rubbing at your eyes. You noticed he was by the window, peering outside and for a moment you remembered the previous day, the scorching sun, and your heart dropped until you realised that the bright red light had disappeared.

Normal sunlight streamed into your room, and out of sheer disbelief you practically jumped out of bed, running over to Isaac. He looked at you, eyes wide.

"It was a dream?" You mumbled, looking out at the perfectly fine houses that were almost nonexistence the day before.

"Yeah." Isaac answered.

You stepped away from the window, "My parents."

You rushed downstairs, Isaac following close behind you. When you rushed into the kitchen to find you parents happily standing in the kitchen, you let out a sigh of relief. It was over. The sun wasn't destroying the world. It really was just a crazy dream.

Well, you thought it was a dream until you heard the morning news on the TV.

You shuffled over, standing in front of it and staring at it with wide eyes. Isaac joined you, a shaky breath slipping past his lips as the news presenter read the breaking news.

"This just in, various sources have reported that our sun is making its way toward the earth at a rapid pace. Stay tuned for more updates."

Unlike what you though, it hadn't all ended. It wasn't just a stupid dream. Yours and Isaac's dream was a warning.

This wasn't the end. No. This was only the beginning.
