Ghosts - Derek Imagine (Part 2)

It'd been just over a month since Derek had met his Guardian Ghost.

She only really ever became visible during the night, claiming that she felt more comfortable in the darkness and Derek respected that. Though, to be fair, he really did miss her during the day light. She was so incredibly beautiful with the moon light making her eyes a pretty shade of brightness, hair slightly messy but wonderful nevertheless, Derek would kill to see how the sun would make her skin and hair glow.

They got on so well that he'd try to stay awake the whole night just to be in her presence, though he always ended up falling asleep anyway. She's told him the next night that she stayed right beside him until the sun rose, making sure that he was safe, and that was enough to make him smile.

Currently, it was something-past midnight and the two of them were sitting on Derek's bed, one on each end while facing each other. They were talking, though it eventually died down into a comfortable silence.

They sat in the cold room, (Y/n)'s eyes tracing the way the bed spread creased and moved while Derek couldn't tear his eyes away from the girl. There was just something so exhilarating about looking at her form that made him feel so alive.

It was quite an ironic concept, considering the girl was far from a living thing.

Eventually, she looked up at him. Her lips tugged into what looked like an almost painful grin, eyes going squinty as her cheeks seemed to force them up into the squint. Even still, her orbs still stared back at him with as much light as they would when they were open.

"Watch this!" She suddenly giggled, tugging on her ears while making her eyes cross-eyed, tipping her head every which way while pulling the stupid face.

Derek watched on in complete and utter adoration, a smile tugging on his lips as a low chuckle slipped past them, "You're crazy."

"I know," Was all she answered, dropped her hands and letting her eyes settle back to the middle. She shrugged then, shuffling up the bed until her knees were bumping into Derek's. Just like that, she went from being one of the most outgoing and carefree people to a shy one.

A blush was on her cheeks, tinting them a beautiful shade of pink that was almost the same colour her lips were. She glanced up at him through her eyelashes, shy eyes locking with his and he, completely stuck in the moment, began to lean closer to her without any second judgement.

Just before their lips touched, however, Derek hesitated. There was barely a millimetre between the two, and he could feel her breath hitting his chin, but he needed to know she was okay with what was happening.

Their eyes locked, and he could see a hidden plea in the brightness before him. Before he had any chance to be completely sure, she was already leaning in, closing the gap herself and letting their lips press together.

There was a split second of calmness that spread over the room as they sat there in that close proximity to each other, but it all seemed to crash down around them almost a second later. (Y/n) suddenly pulled away from the embrace, eyes wide with fear as she jumped up from the bed and moved to the opposite side of the room.

"We can't do this," She gasped out, head shaking vigorously. "We can't. Oh gosh I'm such an idiot! There are rules, Derek! There are rules, and I just completely disobeyed them!"

He hesitantly walked over to her shaking form, taking her hands gently into his as an attempt to calm the girl down.

"Deep breaths," He cooed, rubbing his thumbs gently over the skin on her hands. "What rules, (Y/n)? Can you tell me the rules?"

She hesitated with a deep breath, just like he had told her to, then started to mumble out a response, "The rules! The ones we get taught before we get sent out to our people... There are a lot of them but the one I‒the one I disobeyed was the no dating policy. We aren't allowed to have any sort of romantic interaction with the person we are assigned to..."

"What happens if we go against those rules?" He asked.

Her eyebrows furrowed in concentration, thinking hard before answering him, "I can no longer be your guardian. I just become some completely useless ghost, floating around without any sort of purpose."

"But I'd still be able to see you, wouldn't I?"

She looked up at him, eyebrows still furrowed, "I think so."

"Then what's the worst that could happen? We'd still be able to be together."

A silence settled between the pair, (Y/n)'s mouth hanging agape in what seemed a sense of shock from Derek's words, "You want to be‒to be together?"

He chuckled at the fact that she seemed so shocked by his proposition, but his facial expression soon turned into one of adoration. Derek nodded at her.

"Really?" She questioned.

"Really."

Before Derek could even fully get the word out she was throwing herself at his body, circling her arms around his neck while her face squished into the space where his neck met his shoulder. A laugh rippled from her lips and Derek found himself laughing too. Not because there was anything particularly funny about the situation, but because her laugh was simply that contagious.

The pair stayed like that for a moment, long enough for the laughs to die down. Then, she was pulling away from their embrace yet again, but this time she was smiling. There was no worry in her eyes, or mumbled words of guilt.

All Derek could see was happiness swimming behind her eyes as she reached down and took a hold of his hand with her own, looking up at him through her eyelashes.

"I may be dead," She gripped tighter onto his hand, giving him a shy smile. "But you, Derek Hale, make me feel more alive than anything."
