Blue Birthday

"I hope we have a mission today!" Wally exclaimed," I need to do something with my life." Dick smiled. He was happy and that was all Dick needed. Robin didn't want my problem with Bruce go bring his usual excited mood down. Dick didn't want to effect his way life anymore than he already had.

"What would the mission be?" Robin asked. They had always discussed what they both wished they could do for a mission, but some were either too extreme, or impossible. But it was still fun to discuss their ideas of a "cool" mission.

"We could save a princess and the princess and I would ride of into the sunset on a majestic stallion."Wally said flashing.

"No thanks." Dick replied laughing as the two boys stepped through the zeta beams.

Then, the unexpected occurred. Right as Robin set foot into the mountain, the team yelled," Happy Birthday!" Robin froze as he surveyed the team. It was his birthday... It was the day that he had lost his parents because of Tony Zucco. It was the day that his life was taken from him. The day that everything changed. All because of one man.
"What?" He responded.
"It's your birthday, bird brain. Keep up!" Artemis said while grabbing a small present and sticking it in front of her to hand to Robin. He didn't accept it though.

"Are you okay?" M'gann asked Dick worried. Robin turned to Wally shocked. Did Wally tell them it was his birthday before he knew about Robins identity? Wally smiled sheepishly and mouthed sorry.

"Um...uh....uh...." Was all Robin could stutter out. What was He supposed to say? Oh, I'm not okay. Today is the day my parents were murdered in front of my innocent eight year old eyes. He knew he couldn't exactly say that, but he was still shocked that he hadn't remembered that today was the day his parents died. He hadn't even considered anything except how to get Bruce out of jail.

"Robin you aren't looking too good." Artemis said," Are you okay?" Robin wanted to tell her he was fine, but a lump was growing inside his throat. He couldn't say or do anything. He could only stare at his team with complete and utter shock. approaching. Robin let out a stuttered sigh. Please... Can't everyone just forget about this day? Act as if it never happened? There is nothing special about my birthday. At least not anymore...

"Robin? Happy birthday. Why don't you look too pleased? Isn't this a earth tradition that causes happiness?" M'gann asked as the others agreed nodding their heads.

The boy wonder couldn't take it anymore.
Crack!
He saw their bodies crash to the ground. He then saw his younger self run towards his parents- tears escaping from Dicks eye, but he never did make it to his parents. He had been held back by the circus crew members. He never got to say good-bye.
The world began to spin uncontrollably. Dick heard shouts of his name, but payed no attention to them. Only of the horrid memories flashing in his mind.
Then the world went dark.

Dicks eyes slowly opened and he took notice of his surroundings. He was in the Allen/West house.
"What happened?" Dick asked groggily. He noted that his mask was off, but not his complete costume.

"Well, you kind of passed out and I brought you here." Wally said looking pale. His eyes showed worry and fear, more than expected from the speedster. Robin had just passed out. Why had he been so worried?

"Why? You could have let me rest at the Mountain. I would have been fine."

"Well, I didn't want to team asking you questions and I'm sure you didn't either." He bowed his head," I'm sorry." Dick stared at his friend. He had complete forgotten that his friends were noisy and curios. Wally just did Dick [another] huge favor. Though, what really shocked Dick was that Wally had apologized. Why would the boy be sorry about anything? He's only ever helped Dick. Even by taking him in, and that meant a lot to Dick. With all Wally had done, the boy may never have to apologize for anything ever again.

"You don't have to be sorry for anything, and I don't think that you should feel bad. You didn't do anything wrong. It was smart to bring me here. Thanks," Dick smiled for the first time in the couple of days," How long was I out?"

"About two hours." Dick sighed in relief. There was still time. He could still go visit his parents graves. It wasn't too late. He could still tell his parents that he was sorry. That he was sorry for everything from not catching them to letting his life become this much of a disaster. He needed to talk to them.
"Are you okay? I'm mean, today's the day they... You know...Never mind that was a dumb question." Wally stuttered. He really was trying to make Dick feel comfortable and happy, but he was obviously struggling.

"You can say the word die, you know." It bothered Dick when people thought it was wrong to say the word die in front of him. It was just a word. Just because Dick had lost his parents, that's didn't mean you couldn't use words around him. He wanted to be treated normally. Not like some broken and damaged circus freak.

"Sorry, again." There he goes again with the sorry's. He doesn't need to be sorry for anything. He's already done enough. It's about time I apologize...

"It's fine, you don't have to be sorry," Dick paused," It's just... I really want- have to visit them. I have always gone to see them on this day. Never have o missed it, and I still don't want to. Would you mind if I went? I know it's stupid, but- I don't know, I just really miss them."

"No, of course I'll let you go. I'll have to check in with Uncle Barry first, but I'm sure he'll let you go. Missing your parents isn't stupid, Dick, it's normal. Any normal person would be in your exact situation, well not exact, but you get it."

"Thanks, but how would I get around without being noticed?"

"We could disguise you!" Wally exclaimed. Dicks hope sunk. Would not visiting his parents be so bad? Dick cursed himself for even considering that. Of course he had to see them, but how bad would Wally's costume really be?

~~~
"I feel like a freak!" Dick muttered to Wally. He had actually gone through with the disguise idea.
"You look fine." Wally replied as they walked towards the cemetery. Wally had made Dick change into dark brown contacts, a blond wig, and a normal pair of dark shades. He looked strange, but it had to do for now.
"Yeah, what parent doesn't want to see what their child has become- Especially when they don't even look like their ow child." Dick muttered to Wally sarcastically. He really had wished that he didn't have to wear the costume, but it was either the costume, or not visit his parents.
"It's better than nothing." Wally said as they stood as the entrance of the cemetery. He shifted awkwardly, " I'll wait here and give you some time to talk to them."
"Thanks." Dick said walking in. He really was happy that Wally suggested that idea. He had been to shy to ask Wally himself.
Dick knew exactly where their graves were. He would even come here whenever it wasn't his birthday. Usually when he was looking for answers, or was having trouble with Bruce. Not abuse trouble, but when he treated Dick like a kid, or was just too overprotective. Dick knew he cared about him, but sometimes his carefulness with the boy wonder was just too much. They fought crime in Gotham for gods sake. Of course he was going to get hurt. How could he not?
But Dick would give everything for Bruce to be back. He would tolerate his over protectiveness. He would tolerate anything he threw at me. He didn't want to ruin the chance of losing him again if they could be one happy family like before.
Dick almost instantly saw his parents grey stone graves as he neared the middle of the cemetery. Richard kneeled in front of both of his parents graves. I'm sorry...
"Hey..." He said quietly," I miss you so much. More than you will know, but I'm having some problems right now, and having a parent would be awesome. You know... Since my new parent was taken away. I wish you both could help me... I wish you would still be alive. I don't want to lose my parents again, and pretty soon the cops are going to find me soon. Bruce is innocent. He would never lay a hand on me, unless it's to clean up my wound. I know you probably want me to turn myself in. You thinks it's wrong that's I'm running from the cops, but I can't let Bruce be false arrested. I can't go to another family. You probably hate that I'm running, or you don't support me. I just- I just don't want to lose him. I know, I know I'm talking to my parents about my other parent, but I really need help. Please if you are there hearing me then please help me. He may not be the most affectionate father, but I love him. He's what I have and I don't know what I would do without him... He always been there for me. Even when I'm being a spoiled brat." Tears flowed from Dicks eyes," I don't want to fail him like I failed you. Please let me have one more chance with a parent. I promise I won't screw it up this time. I just... He's all I have left... I don't... I can't lose him. I can't lose anyone again. I can't go through that pain again. I'm not sure if I can handle it. And even if I did, things would never be the same. Please just help me. You're the only hope I have left. Please..."
