One of your favorite places in downtown Hawkins had to be the Hawkin's Diner.

From the mood that was set there, to the food and people, even to the design and layout of the place. The large windows were inviting and the large booths could seat four people altogether.

Overall, you basically spent all your time at Hawkin's Diner, and never really tended to go much elsewhere.

On this particular day, it was bright and sunny which meant a bunch of extra sunlight shone in through the large windows that were by the booths.

You took your usual seat, pulling out your favorite book, and waiting for someone to come and get your order. If it was your favorite waitress, she usually knew exactly what you got.

"Same thing today, ___?"

You looked up from opening the paperback to nod in her direction, your blue eyes meeting her soft brown ones.

"Thanks."

She nodded, giving a warm smile, before walking off to give the order to the chefs while you tried to get into your book.

"What's this?"

You watched as the book was snatched away from your view and into the hands of the one and only, Steve Harrington. You couldn't help but look up at him with confusion.

"What the hell do you want?"

He looked slightly taken aback. "Hey, hey, hey. Hold your horses now, I'm not going to attack you or anything."

You nodded. "Mhmm."

Your eyes followed him as he sat down across from you, looking at the book intently while you crossed your arms, cocking a brow.

"Yeah, thanks, not like I was reading it or anything."

Steve looked up from the book, handing it back before giving a small smile in your direction but you didn't let it move you. Steve was a grade a douche in the school, for reasons you weren't sure of, but you just knew the rumors had to be true.

"What's your deal, ___." Steve asked, leaning forward with his arms on the table.

You looked down towards your feet, pushing the book back into your bag as gently as you could, being careful not to bend it. "I'm not sure what you mean."

"With me. With me, ___. What's your deal with me?" Steve asked, looking at you with stares that were daggers.

You let out a sigh, trying to keep your cool. He hadn't done anything to you, but the rumors you had heard? Terrible.

"I've heard things." You mumbled.

Steve laughed. "Yeah, okay, but what have I done to you? To you, ___."

You looked up to face him. He raised a brow, trying to urge you on to say the words you were thinking. "You're just always trying to get me to talk to you! It's annoying! Why do you want to talk to me? I'm literally one of the weirdest people you'll ever meet!"

Steve smiled, making a mask of confusion conceal your features. "What?"

He just laughed slightly. "If anything, you are far from weird, ___. I like you."

You chuckled. "Yeah, okay."

The waitress came back with your rootbeer float, giving you a smile before waiting for you to pay. You began digging around in your bag before you heard the waitress say, "Thanks."

You looked up to see Steve giving her the correct amount of money as you stared in disbelief. She walked away from the table, money in hand, and put it in the cash register.

"You didn't have to do that."

Steve smiled at you, getting up from the booth. "Enjoy the rootbeer float, ___. After all, I did pay for it."

You watched him leave in confusion. Why did he do that when he didn't have to? He chose to pay for your drink, and it didn't seem like what the rumors made him up to be.

However, you didn't dwell on the thought because of the good paperback in your bag that was now laid out on the table.

You just sipped on the rootbeer float.

sorry if that's not what you wanted.
