Kiera's pov

Middle school sucks and I'm not trying to say that to sound relatable or anything, because it's the truest thing you'll ever hear from any middle school kid. However, I do have some people that make my day so much better than I could possibly imagine, and one who likes me, or at least I think he does.

I catch him eyeing me in class, smiling in my direction when I pass him, and just trying to talk to me like I'll leave him for someone even though we aren't together.

Nonetheless, it made my middle school experience so much better considering how shitty everything is at home, too.

"I hate school." I mumbled to Dustin while walking into the building. He turned to look at me while I opened my locker, watching a few papers fall out and on the ground below.

"Are you trying to say that to be relatable or?" He questioned, helping me pick up the fallen papers.

I shook my head, tucking a strand of hair behind my ear. "No, I'm not. I genuinely have hatred towards it."

Dustin pouted. "Are your friends just sacks of potatoes to you or what, Kiera?"

I laughed back in response, looking up at him from shoving the once loose papers back into my locker. "No, I love you guys. I just don't like everyone else in the building, except for Mr. Clark, of course."

Dustin gave a smile that always brightened my day, even if something was going on at home, I knew that I at least had an older brother figure outside of it all.

"Hey, guys." Lucas said as he approached us, hands on the straps of his backpack as I watched Mike and Will follow him towards us.

"Hey, Kiera over here called us all a sack of potatoes earlier." Dustin jabbed his thumb back at me.

My mouth dropped as I shoved him lightly. "I did not." I said, emphasizing the word 'not'.

Lucas laughed. "I actually really like potatoes so, I take it as a compliment. But that's only if you said it, and not Dustin."

I eyed Dustin quickly before responding. "It wasn't me, it was him."

Lucas looked over at Dustin, laughing with him while Will laughed along lightly and Mike smiled, looking over at me.

The bell rang, signaling that class was about to start and we weren't about to be late for whatever classes we had. We all had science together and I had math with Will but that was it, besides lunch.

"I'll see you guys fourth period then."

The end of first period came, then second, third, and finally fourth period arrived and I practically sprinted to get to Clark's class on time. My third period teacher always gave lectures but this time, she went too long and we all were released later than expected so sprinting was my only option here.

I burst into the classroom, all my friends staring at me, along with the rest of the class and Mr. Clark.

"I'm so sorry that I'm late. My teacher was talking, and lost track of time." I explained to Mr. Clark who just gave a smile and nodded, telling me to take my seat.

I walked over to my desk, that was seated besides Mike's, and took a seat, pulling out my notebook, textbook, and a pencil that were all needed for class.

"Hey, Kiera?" I heard Mike ask softly.

I turned to face him, nodding as a sign to continue with whatever he wanted to say to me. "Can I talk to you privately behind the school, after school?"

I nodded. "Sure."

He turned back to face the front of the room but I could see the small smile that was formed on his lips.

I waited patiently behind the school for Mike who said he promised not to be late, but I obviously didn't believe that.

Just as I was about to leave, I heard him running up behind me. "Kiera, don't go! I'm so sorry, I had to help Dustin with something."

I shrugged. "So, what did you want to tell me?"

There was silence that settled between us and the only sound I could hear was the sound of children leaving and buses' exhaust.

Suddenly, without warning, I felt his lips push onto mine and I was taken aback. He wasn't quick to let go either, so I was frozen into the kiss.

When he did let go, he smiled.

"I like you, Kiera. I always have, but it was all so crazy with you hanging out with Will so much and everything, I never got to see you so much but recently, we got closer and that's when it all clicked."

I nodded slowly, before reaching down to pick up my bike that I had laid down while I was waiting for him to arrive.

"I hope I didn't do anything wrong." He said, seeing as I was about to bike away from him.

"No, Mike, you didn't do anything wrong. It just caught me off guard, that's all. I, uh, I should probably get going before my mom finds out that I'm not home yet and will kill me. See you tomorrow."

With that, I turned around and hopped on my bike, peddling quickly towards the Byers' house, still in shock.

When I arrived at the Byers', I practically threw down my bike and quickly ran up to their front door, knocking three times before Johnathon opened the door.

"Hey, Kiera."

I smiled up at Johnathon. "Hey, is Will home?"

He nodded, letting me inside. I walked back to Will's room and knocked on the door before he opened it. "Hey, Kiera! Good thing you're here because I need to tell you something and it's urgent."

"So is mine." I responded.

He nodded. "Well, you go first."

I was mentally screaming in my head out of excitement but also, I was caught off guard and it was briefly frightening and I just had to tell someone.

"So, Mike kissed me earlier and told me he likes me and now, I'm not sure what to do."

I saw Will's smile drop.

"Oh God, what did I say?" I questioned.

He just shook his head. "Nothing, it's just that, I like you too and I told Mike but I guess he didn't respect what I wanted and told you first."

I nodded. "Oh."

Uncomfortable silence settled between us before I got up off his bed and told him I had to go home before my mom came to realize I wasn't there. He nodded, silent.

"You'll have to choose one of us."

I turned around but he wasn't facing me anymore so I just turned back towards his door, leaving.

I felt terrible.

When I got home, I saw a note by the front door and then another one was found in the mailbox. I quickly opened them to find bills that needed to be paid that hadn't been.

I set them down inside quietly before rushing up to my room, in hopes to not get caught. I shut the door and thought about the two guys that liked me and the statement that Will had laid out earlier.

You'll have to choose one of us.

It was going to be a not so easy decision, I can tell you that much.

The next day at school, the two came running up to me. "Kiera, did you decide?"

"Please say it's me." Will begged, and you could see the glimmer of hope he had in his eyes that you had picked him.

"Guys, I don't think it's fair that this decision was thrown right at me. I don't want to mess up our friendship and I don't want to get into something I may regret."

Mike stared at you with the softest eyes imaginable while Will gave a soothing, somewhat calm smile.

"Fine! If I really have to choose, then I choose..."

If You Decide To Choose Mike
"Mike."

He smiled, pulling you towards him and into a hug as you smiled into his shoulder.

"Will, can we still be best friends?" You asked him, desperately hoping for a yes. He didn't do much but shrugged with a small smile.

"Only if you're happy, Kiera."

If You Decide To Choose Will
"Will."

Mike's facial expression dropped with surprise and sadness from the single name that I had given to them both.

Will pulled me into a tight hug, holding me closely before letting me talk to Mike.

"Mike, I hope you understand that you and I can still be friends." I said, hoping he would give me a 'yes' back in response.

"Of course." He smiled, pulling me into a brief hug before the bell rang and we all had to rush off down the hallway.

the ending was something different, but I liked it!

i hope you enjoyed it, requester!
