Ice Skating

a/n: so for the first time in eight years, I went ice skating on real ice again with my best friends!!! i had a ton of fun & I decided to write an imagine on it because why the hell not!!! enjoy :)

You wrapped the red wool scarf around your neck to keep it warm, and your dark gray gloves slipped underneath the black sweater you wore over jeans and tucked into black boots.

A knock on the door interrupted you placing a maroon colored hat that matched your scarf on top of the soft curls you gave to yourself.

"Hey, babe. You ready?" The famous voice of Steve Harrington rang throughout your house as your mom approached.

"Steve! What a lovely surprise!"

You smiled shyly, looking down towards the ground as you tried to hide the growing blush on your cheeks.

"Hey, Mrs. ___. I'm just taking ___ here ice skating." He responded, giving your mom a warm smile.

You nodded along, wanting to already leave so the line to get skates and pay for a wristband wouldn't be too long.

"Oh, alright! Have fun!"

"Thanks, Mom. We will." You said back to her before shutting the door and grabbing Steve's hand in your gloved one.

The line for getting your skates wasn't as long as expected to be and you easily got the wristband on as well.

You slipped the skates on, adjusting the tightness so they would be snug enough to not give you blisters but not too snug to where it hurt.

You had skated a few years back but this was Steve's first time and you were determined to teach him how to do it correctly.

"Come on." You said, standing above Steve in your skates with both your hands out to pull him up.

He looked up at you, and then back down at the skates questioningly. "Am I supposed to walk around in these?"

"Well, yeah. How else would you get on the ice?" You asked him, a playful twinkle in your eye.

He smiled. "Alright."

You grabbed his hands pulling him up as he landed nearly on you. "There you go. Come on, let's skate."

The rink was filled with perhaps, twenty people, which wasn't bad for Hawkins considering the rink wasn't the largest.

You pulled Steve out onto the ice, him watching the children that zipped past you both very quickly and skillfully.

"Can you do that?" He asked you, staring at a kid who was doing a twirl around the rink.

You nodded. "Not sure if I can do it now, but I could do it a few years ago. Tell you what, if you go all the way around the rink once without holding the wall, maybe I'll try it for you."

Steve nodded, a sudden determination filling his body. "Okay."

You grabbed his hand and began moving your feet outwards, and just swaying.

Steve was trying to make you slow down.

"Steve, hey, it's easier if you go faster. You may not think so, but it's so much easier to skate if you go faster."

"I don't want to fall, ___!" He exclaimed, a pained expression on his face.

You gave him a warm smile. "Steve, babe. Just copy what I do. Bend your knees just slightly to avoid falling, too."

Steve nodded, still gripping your hand. You began swaying once more, knees bent the slightest, as Steve copied your every move.

You began pointing out the slightest things that made the rink in Hawkins more festive for the season.

"Look at that snowflake." You pointed, Steve still focused on the ground below his skates.

You nudged him. "Hey, don't look at the ground either. Look at the direction you're headed and it will be easier, I promise."

Steve gave a small nod, but you could see the fear like it was a sign above him flashing in neon lights.

"I really don't want to fall."

"So what if you do? You get back up and continue on. You're learning, babe." You encouraged.

He nodded once more. "Oh, alright."

You two began skating again, your hand in his as he kept up his pace with you. You turned to look at him. "Almost to the end of your first time around."

"Then a twirl?" He asked, excited.

You laughed. "Yeah, okay."

You began picking up the pace slightly and you felt Steve's grip tighten. "Steve, trust me. Faster means easier, as stupid as it sounds."

He just kept holding your hand as you arrived at the corner of the rink and turned around to face him, letting go of his hand.

"You did it!" You exclaimed, happily.

Steve smiled. "And in return..." he trailed off.

You smiled. "Okay, but if I get hurt from this Harrington, I'm blaming it on you."

You skated off, going quickly around one side of the rink and onto the other side, picking up your speed to do one in the air.

Your skates left the ground, your body spun, and you landed gracefully back down and came to a stop next to Steve who was just dumbstruck.

"Holy shit, ___."

You smiled, calming down a little bit. "I don't even know how I remembered how to do that after all these years."

"Well, it was amazing."

The night had come to a close, with you walking up your porch and almost opening the door before Steve called you back to him.

"___, you are fabulous, you know that?" He said, putting both his hands in yours.

"As are you, Harrington."

"I was wondering, maybe you'd like to go on another date with me?"

"A third date? Sure." You smiled up at him, briefly pushing your lips to his to give him a satisfactory kiss before saying goodnight.

"Goodnight, Harrington. I had loads of fun."

"Same here, ___. See you tomorrow, or on our next date."

You just laughed, giving him a smile as he walked off down the street, yelling out of happiness.

"You're an idiot, Steve Harrington."
