a/n: not ashamed to say that this song is inspired by Charlie Puth's. check out my stranger talk about the golden globes!!! enjoy :)

Your hand was firmly wrapped around Dustin's as you made your way down the school hallways, trying to avoid all eye contact after everything you had done.

You had said some pretty shady things about your boyfriend, yet you were still somehow together, and everyone was talking about it.

In all honesty, you only wanted him to pay attention to you again like he used too.

"Dusty, you still like me?" You questioned him softly, walking towards your first period class where your other four friends were gathered.

A thick silence settled over the room when you entered, so you hesitantly shook Dustin's hand out of yours but not before he answered back.

"You're toying with my heart, ___."

You paused mid-step as he walked on past you and towards his seat in the front as you felt a tight, heavy knot form in your chest.

Dustin didn't make much of a reaction back but pulled out his notebook and began writing down notes. You couldn't help but feel hot tears swarm in your eyes; however, you had to take a seat so you hesitantly walked over to your seat and sat down.

Your fingers played with your pencil nervously, staring at the back of Dustin's head who usually turned around, cracking a joke or two before Mr. Clarke yelled at him to turn back around.

He didn't move.

You shifted your gaze downwards, a tear slipping down your cheek silently as you fiercely wiped it away.

You had always refused to cry in class, especially in front of your friends because you were the tough one in the group and one of the reasons Dustin had been drawn to you.

He had a good reason to not talk to you anymore.

After a small accident, you and Dustin had grown apart slightly. He went more with his friends as you went down the loner path but you wanted him back.

Especially after seeing him talking to other girls, even if they were just classmates or friends, but you weren't with Dustin anymore. He had a good reason for you not to be jealous.

You didn't have much of a right to be.

However, you wanted him back. You just wanted him to be with you again but the only way to do that was to start a fierce rumor about something he had done to you.

That's exactly what you did.

And now Dustin would barely look or talk at you. You had destroyed a perfect relationship between you two over something stupid and as much of bullshit more than ever.

"___?" Mr. Clarke's voice snapped you out of your teary eyed gaze towards the desk below your pencil that had scratched away most of the surface in a small heart.

You quickly wiped away your tears, gathered up your belongings, and rushed out of the classroom without a word. Mr. Clarke didn't even try to stop you but Dustin couldn't help but get up.

He didn't know why.

"God, I'm such an idiot." You mumbled to yourself, wiping away some more tears as you put stuff away in your locker.

"Hey, ___. You okay?"

You glanced over at your ex. "Yeah, I'm fine. Just dealing with some shit that I'd rather not talk about."

Dustin sighed, shutting your locker for you as you took a step back. "Look, ___. You were the one who broke my heart, not the other way around."

You wiped off a tear that was threatening to fall down your cheek.

"I just wanted you back. I love you, Dustin."

He shook his head. "No, ___. Save it. You don't love me, you just wanted attention."
