Chapter Twenty-Two: Twinning

As we waited for Chanbin to arrive, I couldn't help but feel a little nervous. I mean, I knew Choonhae's twin brother was talented, but what if he was better than us? What if we didn't live up to his standards?

The three of us were the new subgroup of the week. Instead of a duo performance it would be a trio one.

But as soon as he walked in the door, all of my worries disappeared. He was tall, with the same dark hair and piercing eyes as his sister. But where Choonhae was quiet and reserved, Chanbin was outgoing and funny. I also couldn't help but do a double-take. He looked so much like Choonhae, but at the same time, he exuded a different energy. It was like he had a confidence that Choonhae lacked.

"Hey, guys!" he said, flashing us a bright smile. "I hear we're gonna be singing together!"

Allison and I nodded, still a little star-struck by his presence. Chanbin was definitely a natural in front of people, and it was easy to see why he had been chosen for this new subgroup.

"Hey, Billie," he greeted me properly, "and this must be Allison." He grinned widely, looking Allison up and down. "Wow! You are even more stunning in person." Chanbin had been training in an entirely different Studio with his team and he had only met Allison from afar. I had seen him once during training last week, but we hadn't actually met yet.

I could see Allison's cheeks flush slightly, and I stifled a laugh. Chanbin was definitely not shy about his attraction to her.

"So, what's the plan for this week's performance?" Chanbin asked, taking a seat beside us. He was a tall guy, way taller than his twin sister.

Allison took out a notebook, which was filled with lyrics and song ideas. "We were thinking of doing a cover of 'Shape of You' by Ed Sheeran."

Chanbin raised an eyebrow. "Really? That's a bit overdone, don't you think?"

I could feel my nerves starting to resurface. What if we didn't have a good enough song choice?

Chanbin took the notebook and began to flip through it, his eyes scanning the lyrics.

"This is a great song, but I think we should add our own twist to it," he said, handing the notebook back to Allison. "How about we incorporate some rap verses in the middle?"

Allison nodded in agreement, and I could see the wheels turning in her head.

"That's a great idea, Chanbin," I said, impressed. "Do you have any ideas for the rap verses?"

Chanbin shrugged. "I could come up with something, but I think it would be better if we all wrote our own verses. That way, it'll be more personal and unique."

Allison and I both nodded in agreement, and we spent the next hour brainstorming and writing down ideas. Chanbin was a natural at making us laugh and breaking the tension whenever things got too serious.

As we wrapped up the session, Chanbin turned to Allison with a smirk.

"Hey, Allison," he said, "how about we grab some lunch together tomorrow? I'd love to get to know you better."

Allison looked flustered, but I could tell she was considering it. I shot her a knowing look. I already knew what the issue was. I decided to save her.

"She and Jiwoong have some privat tutoring going on during all lunches," I finally said, smiling.

Allison shot me a dark look, before turning as red as a tomato.

On that exact second, Choonhae walked into the training room. She was probably here to see her twin brother, as they didn't see much of each other last week.

"Finally, in the same training building!" Choonhae said as she walked towards her brother and gave him a big hug. "Eew! How are you so sweaty from a vocal session?"

She stepped back and crinkled her nose at him.

Chanbin turned his eyes toward me and Allison and joked, "I'm working with those two. I'm allowed to sweat!"

I snorted and Allison turned even redder.

"So you've finally met my brother?" Choonhae asked me, trying to break the awkwardness a little.

I pointed at her mischievous twin. "I knew as soon as I saw his performance last week, this one was going to be great to work with. And it was."

Chanbin laughed as he beamed up at me. His fingers pointing at his chest.

"Yup, that's me!" Chanbin replied with a grin. "The better-looking, more talented twin, of course."

Allison giggled at Chanbin's joke, but I could see the annoyance in Choonhae's eyes as she slapped him again for the awful joke. I knew how much she was feeling subconsciously in this competition. Having a really talented brother mustn't be helpful at all.

"Hey, don't be so mean to your sister," I said, trying to smooth things over.

Chanbin just laughed. "I'm just kidding! She knows I love her."

"Yeah, yeah," Choonhae sighed and glanced at her watch. "I better get going. Ricky is going to freak out if I'm not back on time. As would Gunwook."

Flashbacks come to me about our conversation the other day about her encounter with both Ricky and Yujin in that locker room. The rumors had swirled around the academy, and now Choonhae had to battle some extra demons. Poor thing.

"We're having pizza night tonight at our room!" I yelled after her, and she gave me an annoyed look.

"Matthew and Keita?"

"Of course!" I winked.

"They should just move in at this point," she growled. "They are literally in our dorm every night, girl."

I guess that was true, and I wasn't complaining.
