CHAPTER 43- BIDAAI

Next morning, Mehran woke up with a huge smile on his face. Everything about last night seemed like a dream, yet Mehran knew it wasn't a dream. His smile widened feeling a soft arm resting on his chest. He held the hand and caressed it, only to realize it isn't Umaira's. His eyes sprung open, he tilted his head little and saw Siham sleeping peacefully next to him, her head close to his, one leg on top of his and her arm resting on his chest.

Shit! Mehran cautiously moved her arm and leg. He made sure she doesn't wake up as he slipped down from the bed. He adjusted the duvet over her and hurried to the bathroom. He is excited to meet Umaira. Mehran took a quick shower and dressed in a white and black Kurtha pyjama. He combed and gelled his hair.

'Where are yoooou going!' Siham yawned sitting up on the bed. Mehran turned to her and smiled.

'I am so happy, Siham!' he exclaimed

'Wow! I am very happy for you, Jaan.' Siham sounded genuinely happy. She kneeled on the bed and stretched her arms towards him gesturing him for a hug. It is then Mehran realized- last night, he cheated on Siham, his fiancé.

'Come, honey!' Siham said crawling towards him. Mehran flashed a small smile and hugged her, feeling a pang of guilt. He recollected Amreen's words, "Whatever you decide, think of Siham too."

******************

Last night, was nothing less than bliss and now waking up next morning Umaira wished it was a dream. She sat by the window holding a coffee mug in her hand, she stared out at the pool. There in the cold pool water, under the moonlight she had shared the most beautiful moment of her life, with the man she loves, the man who is forbidden to her. She wanted to forget last night, but she couldn't. It brought with itself guilt yet peace. She leaned her head back and exhaled loudly.

'I will wear this in Bidaai.' Umaira's mother spoke to her sister-in law in the background.

'How is this, Umaira?' Umaira turned her head and looked at cream and blue saree her mother held. Seeing the saree, Umaira recollected the Mehendi day when Mehran had helped her with the saree.

'It will look perfect on you, Ma.' She smiled and then returned to staring, this time at her coffee mug.

Last night was the Nikaah and today around 12pm is Huma's Bidaai. She will be going with her in-laws from the hotel to the airport and back to Delhi. The bride side will return to Delhi by the evening flight. Day after tomorrow is the reception in one of the hotels in Delhi.

Though everyone wanted to dress up traditionally, Umaira chose more casual attire- full sleeved white top and chiffon floral high waist Maxi skirt. She let her hair loose. Her mother was very annoyed with Umaira's casual look. She argued little but gave up when despite her stern warning Umaira didn't listen and dressed into it.

Shadab's white Toyota Fortuner was decorated beautifully with red roses and behind the car a huge termacol heart shaped cutting with JUST MARRIED, written in golden glitters, the heart painted with red glitters and had golden borders. Mehran and Junaid teased Shadab about last night so much that he turned into red tomato. The men chuckled at a blushing Shadab, but his embarrassment soon ended as the bride and her family came out from the hotel. Huma looked stunning in Maroon and white Saree, a veil covering her beautiful long tresses and her make-up well done. Everyone looked at her with awe except Mehran, his gaze found Umaira and he couldn't look away. She isn't looking at him, she is walking beside Huma staring at the floor. Mehran wanted her to look at him. She didn't.

Umaira made sure not to look at the groom side but as they approached the end of the stairs and stood in front of the car she looked up. Her eyes instantly found Mehran. Reflexively he smiled at her, she smiled too albeit a small smile. Huma hugged everyone crying her eyes out, she hugged Umaira very tightly that she found her breathing getting caught in her chest. Huma was finally made to sit in the car, all the while Shadab felt awkward. Huma rolled down the car window, she cried some more waving at everyone. Umaira felt teary as well. After Huma's car disappeared through the gate the rest of the groom's side cars left one by one. Mehran looked at Umaira one last time before getting into his car. He had wanted to delay his stay here in Goa, to be with Umaira but he didn't want to create unnecessary suspicions. He is also looking for a perfect time to talk to Siham, he has to gather courage and perfect words too. He doesn't want to hurt Siham. Umaira watched his car leave, she is distracted only when her Mami hugged her crying. Umaira looked away from the black Mercedes carrying Mehran and looked at her Mami, she hugged and consoled her Mami, all the while crying herself.
